Happy first day of fall. I am here for it feeling full of gratitude for the change of seasons and the incredible weather that we are being spoiled with. I have been sitting outside working for three hours and I plan to eat dinner outside tonight too.
It’s 70 degrees and 46% humidity the sky is Carolina blue. I’m feeling especially happy about this weather stuff because last year on September 30 it was 98 degrees in Charlotte. I remember going explore Optimist Hall with Finn on a Friday afternoon because I was trying to find an indoor activity because it was so crazy hot. Now, that’s not to say that it couldn’t be back in the 90s in the blink of an eye…because that’s how we roll in the south…but let’s hope those days are behind us!
We’ve had mornings in the 40s for the last few days so Finn has been rocking his fall apparel. Related, he desperately needed a new pair of shoes and picked out these little Sperry’s 100% on his own. 🙂 If you’re local to Charlotte, we love Kixx.
Finn is holding a chocolate chip cookie in that photo. We baked chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin apple bread on Sunday.
I enjoyed my first 55 degree, low-humidity run of the season on Monday morning and it felt incredible. It always blows my mind how much easier running feels in lower humidity. I ran about 3.5 miles at a pace I hadn’t seen in ages! Also, it’s funny to see how runners dress so differently when the weather starts to change. I was out there in shorts and a tank and passed another runner in tights, long sleeves and gloves! I actually walked out in a long-sleeved shirt and reminded myself of the whole “dress like it’s 20 degrees warmer” thing and decided to leave it at home. I’m glad I did.
The dogs have been loving the cooler weather too, especially Zoey! She’s been doing a lot of sunbathing.
We spent so much time outside last weekend. There is a great playground within easy walking distance of the new house and Finn loves it. He’s doing so much more climbing these days which is fun to watch.
And that’s all I have for you on this first day of fall. Just wanted to say hi and check in with some photos of the crew.
QUESTIONS
Do you tend to over or under dress when you run?
Are you happy to see fall or sad to say goodbye to summer?
Favorite places to shop for toddler boys? Finn needs a fall wardrobe refresh!
I am right there with you on loving fall running and giggling at those that are so overdressed! But to each their own, of course! I will be rocking shorts and tees/tanks for as long as I can during this Minnesota fall. My fave running weather is the kind that allows for shorts, tee, and gloves – my hands always get the coldest.
I wouldn’t say that I overdress, but looking at me, people probably would. In the summer it’s no question tank/short sleeve with shorts, but in that in between, I tend to wear long sleeves and shorts and if it’s under 65, I have to wear ear warmers/headband. Not sure if others have this issue, but the cold air hurts my inner ears when I run. I’m comfortable though and I’m the person that would rather be warmer than colder. I used to love summer here in Denver as before kids, we’d spend nearly every weekend backpacking or hiking 14ers. Summer is the best time to do this as the late spring still has snow on the tops and late summer/early fall can bring storms and lots of new snow. Day trips up to the mountains can be tricky and there is ALWAYS lots of weekend traffic for everyone to do the same, so we don’t go up as often, but we have been doing weekend trips, which has felt like a vacation. I definitely welcome fall weather though! It’s nice to not have to get my run in early in the morning, but anytime throughout the day.
Can’t help for toddler boys specifically, but I tend to buy gap, old navy and target. I also like Mini Boden and Tea Collection, which are more expensive, but I just wait for their sales. Zulily also has some cute stuff too! Other great places to shop at are 2nd hand stores like Once Upon a Child or Kid to Kid!
I wish it were really fall here. Alas, I live in Phoenix where we won’t get “fall” weather until maybe mid-to-late November. . . .
My sons are 8.5 now, but when they were toddlers, I loved getting their clothes at Gymboree. Nowadays, they are all athleisure all the time, and I buy most of their clothes at our local kids’ consignment store because one of them doesn’t like the feel of “new” clothes. (Actually, a good kids’ consignment store would be an even better option for a 2-year-old because few kids wear anything long enough at that age to wear it out.)
That Choose Happy shirt with the slide and his happy smile is everything!! 🙂
I welcome fall with open arms! I’m not one to enjoy heat and humidity. Even though it’s the end of summer, there is something about fall that is so fresh and new. I love it.
I always under dress because I overheat so easily!
I adore that bottom photo of you and Finn!!! So so sweet!! I’m thrilled about Fall…nothing I love more than cozy sweaters, blankets and crisp walks! xoxoxo
I’m catching up on posts this morning and your house looks amazing!!! I hope you are settling in and feeling good:) This is such a cozy post too!!
As a single mom with a mortgage, I am overwhelmed ALL THE TIME. It’s so comforting to come here and see you rocking life and taking it all in stride. Lots of love and respect to you! xoxo
