My Fourth of July was so much fun and when it was all said and done I ended up at the beach so I’m a happy girl!
The day started with one of my favorite pre-workout breakfasts before heading over to our new location for the July 4th CrossFit class.
It’s a tradition to do Hero WODs on holidays (especially those that honor freedom, military, service, etc.) so our director of CrossFit had programmed not only one Hero WOD but three! He was kind enough to reduce the rounds/reps but it was still a killer workout. I used a 65# bar for DT and a 45# bar for Randy. I definitely had some moments with myself during Randy. I had to break it into sets of 5 to get through the 50. I finished the whole thing in around 24 minutes.
I was so excited to arrive at the gym and find it packed. We had over 40 athletes for yesterday’s workout! We ended up having to do the workout in two separate heats and it was fun to to cheer each other on. I love that we are already building such a strong CrossFit community!
I came home and finished packing for my trip. Lunch was an egg scramble using everything left in the fridge. Into this crazy creation went kale, squash, eggplant, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, a Morningstar sausage, an egg, goat gouda and salsa. It actually tasted great and I definitely felt like I got my veggies + protein in.
When I arrived at the airport a couple of hours later I had a Chobani.
And then a soy latte and a peanut butter granola bar during my layover in Atlanta.
I arrived in Pensacola after a short 45 minute flight and my parents were waiting. We stayed in Pensacola for dinner so that we could catch the fireworks over the bay. We went to Carrabba’s because it was right on the bay and we could see the fireworks from their outdoor patio.
I am so in love with their bread.
I ordered the shrimp and scallops that are breaded, grilled and topped with a lemon butter sauce. I went with the veggie of the day on the side instead of pasta due to my bread consumption!
Mini dessert.
Our meal ended with a fireworks show and then we made the trek back to Fort Walton. We didn’t get in until around 11:30 p.m. so I unpacked, read and crashed.
I’m blogging from the patio and enjoying this view but I’m ready to see it up close and personal. I plan on being a major beach bum on this trip and am banning hair dryers, minimizing makeup and trading technology and work for books and family time.
Have a great day!
It is just so bizarre that your in my town right now lol. We were downtown watching the fireworks last night as well and we go to Carrabba’s every time my parents come over from Ft. Walton since they have a great gluten free menu (Dad has Celiac’s).
Enjoy the fort!
Sounds like a great 4th of July! And Carabba’s bread = <33333333

Love that orange wall at the new location – so cool and inspiring! Enjoy the beach and your Food Network magazine – one of my favs. 🙂
Looks like an awesome day! DT is one of my favorite WOD’s ever! Love your Fourth programming at your box! Enjoy your beach day!
Looks like you had a good fourth! Enjoy the beach!
It looks like you had a heck of an awesome day. 🙂 I also applaud you for getting a workout in before a flight — so many people use travelling as an excuse to slack off when really, exercise should be something you want to do/don’t need to make excuses for avoiding! You’re inspiring.
Hi – I still dont get it why there need to be even a workout to honor military. As Carl Sandburg said “Sometime they’ll give war and nobody will come”.
Still enjoy reading your blog, though! Greetings from the other side of the world in hamburg, Germany,
Maria
What a fun fourth! Glad Crossfit is getting super busy and there is a community building up! It sounds like such an amazing bonding community. Enjoy the family time and relaxation!
Have a wonderful time! We went to Destin last summer and loved it!
That WOD looks like it was a great way to start off the holiday!
Your fourth of July pre-workout breakfast looks delicious, pinned it! Have fun in your travels, I’m so jealous!
So beautiful down there! My mother in law lives there and it’s our favorite vacation place! Enjoy yourself!
