A quick update on part two of my weekend (part one here) before I crash…I have a goal to be in bed by 9:30 tonight!
I “slept in” until 7:30 this morning, which these days sadly is sleeping in. I had an English muffin with peanut butter, honey and banana with black coffee while I planned for today’s yoga classes. I taught my normal 9:15 a.m. hot class and subbed the 2:15 p.m. hot class. Due to the crazy temperatures and humidity we are experiencing here, both classes were extremely hot. I felt so much for the students and tried to run the air exchange and fans as much as possible. These summer days take hot yoga to a whole new level. I have been chugging water trying to rehydrate from sweating so much this weekend!
Here is your “start Monday with a dose of positivity” thought for the week. I read this to my classes today.
“One day at a time – this is enough. Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.” – Ida Scott Taylor
I haven’t been able to get my own workouts in this weekend since I’ve been so busy teaching (I do not practice with the class when I am teaching yoga. I walk around and assist.) so I came home after my morning class and took Sullie for a three-mile walk/run. Yes, you read that correctly. We slowly ran on flats and down some hills – probably not more than a mile total but it felt good! No hamstring pain.
I had an awesome salad for lunch. My body was craving greens and veggies. I roasted some beets on Friday so they were the star of the salad along with toasted pecans, avocado, leftover roasted eggplant, jack cheese, apples and dried cranberries. Homemade honey dijon balsamic vinaigrette for dressing.
I saw this Spiced Peach Carrot bread in my latest issue of Southern Living and knew I had to make it. I love carrot cake/breads and the addition of peaches sounded amazing. I had quite a few peaches on hand and all the ingredients in my pantry so I baked it while I was home in between classes. It was so good. I will be sharing the recipe (made some modifications) on Bakin’ and Eggs this week!
I came home after teaching my final class for the weekend and was happy to see my husband! He has been in Charleston since Thursday evening for a bachelor party. I showered, shoveled down some hummus and pita chips, cuddled up on the couch and promptly passed out for 45 minutes. I am not a napper (it is really difficult for me to slow down long enough to nap) so anytime that I do, I know I really needed it.
I was famished when I woke up so we got to work on dinner. Brandon grilled a pork tenderloin with a jerk sauce that we got on our trip to Jamaica. It was spicy! I roasted okra and sweet potatoes and sliced a Cherokee Purple heirloom tomato.
And then we went to TCBY. There was nothing coming between me and a big cup of frozen yogurt tonight.
No makeup, wet braid, comfy clothes – no shame. Off to bed. 5 minutes until 9:30 bedtime! Tomorrow starts a new week…kicking off with 6 a.m. BodyPump. Here we go!
Are you a napper? I used to nap in high school/college but since I’ve entered the “real world” I just don’t anymore. I am too busy thinking about all the other things that I could be doing…I think maybe I need to work on my napping skills. This could be a good thing! ๐
I’m so happy you ran without pain! And you poor thing for having such a hectic weekend! You definitely earned that TCBY and early bed time ๐
9:30 bed time? Yes please! Especially since I am up at 4:30 ๐
Just worked on my napping skills tonight after a late night out! I was just thinking about this the other week when I could not get myself to relax enough to take a nap when I really needed it! I also think when I’m working out all the time I can’t nap!
Hey Jen,
Hope all is well! I also saw that Peach Carrot Bread recipe. I was planning on turning it paleo. Yours looked delicious. I am sure mine won’t be nearly as tasty.
And I agree about naps, just not enouth hours in a day!
good luck with the recipe modifications – i have no experience with the whole paleo thing. i am always amazed by friends who do it!
and yes, no naps! too many other fun things to do with my free time.
good to hear from you! ๐
I have always been a napper. Even a short nap helps me to recharge when I need to. I hope you enjoyed a great night of sleep!
i think the key is the short naps. if i sleep to long i feel terrible!
Glad to hear I am not the only one with an aversion to napping! I can only sleep when it’s dark. Weird, I know, but my mind races if I try to nap so there is no point! Have a great week!
SAME HERE Emilie! I am physically incapable of napping. I can only sleep during designated bedtime.
me too ladies! my mind races and i feel like there are so many other things that i could be doing with my free time. i have similar issues with sitting on the couch in the middle of the day. i can’t watch random movies and do nothing unless it’s dark. crazy!
I was never a napper, but now in my last weeks of pregnancy, YUP, I’m a big napper ๐
I’m looking forward to eating frozen yogurt again soon!
i think you get a big PASS – you deserve those naps!
I find that when I nap I end up sleeping too long and then can’t sleep at night. And when I nap too long, I always wake up wanting to eat a huge bowl of cereal! Loved to hear that you got to run a bit and without any pain and cheers to frozen yogurt!
if i sleep to long i just feel terrible when i wake up! and what is it about naps that makes you hungry!?
I’m not generally a napper either but darn if I didn’t fall asleep on the couch for a few minutes yesterday afternoon. I must have needed it. I think it’s this heat – we don’t have A/C and it gets to a point where you just don’t want to even MOVE. Parking it in front of/under a fan is about the only thing you want to do when your house is 85 degrees. That said, we’ve been all about the ice cream (as opposed to yogurt ) recently – whatever it takes!
kat – i cannot even believe that you have been surviving this crazy hot weather with no AC. i can only imagine that you have been needing some fan/relaxation time!
and ice cream > frozen yogurt any day of the week! ๐
I never nap either. I agree with you about the can’t slow down enough to nap. And then, when I try to, I feel guilty because there are other things I should be doing.
ME TOO!
A bachelor party that started on Thursday?! LOL
I don’t nap very often. Maybe once a month? For like 20 min.
It’s usually on a Monday when I get home from work. Monday’s always seem to beat me up.
yes, a THREE DAY bachelor party. needless to say he is in recovery mode! ๐
i think the key to napping is keeping it short. otherwise, i just feel worse than before i took a nap.
damn girl you were busy!!!!!!but you got it all done!!! be proudd ๐
That Spiced Peach Carrot bread looks amazing!!! ๐
Sitting outside, wearing sweats and eating frozen yogurt? Seems like heaven to me! Glad to hear that your hamstring is feeling better!
I LOVE taking naps. Just yesterday, I took about an hour nap in the afternoon and it was such a refresher. I loved it. ๐
I am a terrible napper! Even on Sunday, when I had woken up at 5:30, I wasn’t able to nap. Sometimes just lying down in a cool dark room and closing my eyes for a little bit helps me recharge, even if I don’t fall asleep.
My husband is a champion napper though. I think he got good at it during med school!
