Thursday was one of those days where I was hungry all day long. Nothing satisfied me and I was hungry again an hour after eating a meal. I find the fluctuations in my appetite really interesting.
Breakfast was another “Nutty Fruity” smoothie from Berrybrook Farm. I couldn’t stop thinking about how delicious the one I had on Tuesday was! This one had yogurt, bananas, strawberries and almonds.
I spent most of my day at Metro CrossFit teaching class and working open gym. I brought lunch from home and assembled it during open gym. Tomato sandwich on wheat and a salad with spinach, feta and cherry tomatoes. I ate a bag of Wheat Thin Chips that were supposed to go with my lunch about an hour before. I needed a snack!
Yesterday’s workout was a 3 mile run. It was in the 70s and cool so I had to take advantage and get outside. I trained a client after I ran and made her do her warmup out in the parking lot so she could enjoy the fresh air after being at work all day! I actually love the workout I did with her last night and I’m going to post a version of it here soon. It’s dumbbell and stability ball based and I think y’all will love it.
After I left the gym I headed to The Wine Shop to meet all the yogis I went to Punta Cana with for a reunion. What I like about The Wine Shop is that you can pick a bottle from the wine store and drink it in the restaurant. The selection is amazing with some really unique bottles that you won’t find in bigger/chain stores. I chose this Jeff Runquist 1448 red blend. It’s everything I love in a red wine…big body, intense flavors and mostly petit sirah based (my favorite varietal!)
I fed my hungry belly with grilled orkra topped with feta and served with a chipotle aioli. I also couldn’t keep my hand out of some truffle fries that were circulating the table.
And the house sliders with onion jam and blue cheese. These are little burgers of perfection! π
I have a really busy Friday and I am SLAMMED at work right now (and working on launching a new website for the Club!!!!!!) but I’m taking a break for a hair cut and color later this afternoon. It’s been five months so it’s long overdue.
Do you ever have days where you’re crazy hungry?Β What kind of things to do you eat to tame your belly? I usually try to eat more healthy fats and protein and throw in some extra snacks.
Hey Jen,
Did you ever write a review of Zoetry? I don’t remember reading it. I went there this past summer for my honeymoon and thought the place was great.. I am not sure what to think about the Dominican since we never actually left the resort. Anway, just wondering if I missed it:)
I have had this issue a lot lately. Just doing my best to make healthy decisions and not let the hunger take over. I find that I’m most satisfied by crunch, so instead of accidentally eating 2 or 3 servings of almonds ill have one serving and some bell pepper slices or pickles. I also don’t keep excess snacks lying around at work where I’m most likely to overindulge. Sometimes I just want to keep eating so I pick less caloric all dense foods so if I have too many snacks they don’t add up to a calorie surplus.
I’ve had that 1448, it’s delicious!! π
I want to dive face first into those sliders right now. Luckily burgers are on my menu for tonight!
And I love finding new wines to try, so I’ll be looking for 1448.
Have a great weekend π
I absolutely have hungry days! Wednesday was a really hungry day for me! I find that if I have a really intense workout in the morning, then it can potentially set me up for a hungry day. And sometimes that just happens π
I probably donβt need to tell you this, but you were probably hungry all day because that is really not enough food for anyone, let alone someone who is active and has an active job. The first half of your day totally lacked protein. A tomato sandwich? Why not add some sort of protein to it? I know it had cheese and that has protein, but really not enough to satiate an active person. I also never find smoothies to be filling, everyone is different though. They fill me up right after I drink them, but being a liquid your body processed it a lot faster than a legit meal.
I definitely have days where I am extra hungry. On those days I try to eat larger meals and add in a mini-meal versus snacking on snack-y foods like chips or crackers.
I definitely have hungry days too!
I did notice that your breakfast and lunch were very low in protein…on days that I am more hungry I try to increase my protein intake and that helps a lot. You could add protein powder to your smoothie and some (more) fat like peanut butter to help it last longer (which I’m sure you know already) and adding some meat to your sandwich or salad would have probably helped a lot. But, some days nothing works and we are just hungry! π
Those sliders look like perfection! I have those days too when I’m just ravenous all day long. So strange!
I have to try putting almonds in my smoothie ASAP – it sounds amazing! I find that when I’m extra hungry eating more fats and drinking TONS of water helps, but I also just go with it and eat until I’m satisfied. π
That okra look so yummy!
I had one of those hunger days this past week. I put nut butter and avocado on all the snacks I ate. With a glass of chocolate milk. Very satisfying! Happy Friday!!!
Yummy looking food! 70 degrees in August is just crazy….but I love it!
i totally have hungry days to and i can’t really figure out why even though i right down everything i eat and try to look back. i DO notice that i’m hungrier on the weekends and i think its 2 fold. first i’m at home around more food and maybe not as busy as i would be at work. and second i usually eat breakfast MUCH later in the day….
its interesting though someone brings up exercising though..i never thought about the fact that on the weekends i exercise in the morning vs. the week when its always at night ? hmmmmm. I’m also ALWAYS hungrier at night than during the day. they always say the bulk of your food should be eated before like 2 pm but i’m the opposite i’m much hungrier at night. i think its more mental like i need a big dinner as a “job well done” prize for getting through work and nightly workout.
I haven’t had a “hangry pants” day in a while, but usually it is on my rest days or if I didn’t eat enough carbs the night before a big workout. Those sliders not only look adorable, but delicious. I know you’re busy but make sure to take some time for YOU. XOXO
I definitely have hungry days! I think it’s just my body’s natural fluctuations, and can’t really correlate it to training ups/ downs, what I ate, etc. But I find it super interesting, so I’m looking forward to reading more commenters’ experiences!
Totally hear you on the hungry days! I recently had a two week period of non stop hunger…that interestingly coincided with the end of semester and finals. Stress might have been a factor, but I also notice that doing a lot of glycolitic work like MetCons fires up my appetite like none other. I also notice sometimes that the hungry days come rolling in if I’m generally low on carbs.
I always seem to have ravenous tendencies when it’s leg day. I top my omelet with lots of avocado and then since I am doing the sugar free challenge ( on week 4) I make “protein balls” for my afternoon pick- me- up. They consist of whey protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, sunflower seed butter, cinnamon, a dash od oats and a splash of milk. It’s more like eating a paste, actually, but hey, it has gotten me through the past 4 weeks.
Ugh, those hungry days are the worst! I’m having one of those right now. I usually try to add a few extra snacks like raw baby carrots, some healthy fats, or maybe some air popped popcorn w/nutritional yeast… something that takes me a bit to eat. π
