For my entire life (seriously) I have had this deep seated dream that one day I can be a dancer. I can see it in my head but my body just doesn’t cooperate. I was resigned to the back row for jazz recitals when I was growing up and I was always the last one to learn our competition dances for cheerleading.
Soooo…obviously I was thrilled when I got to take my first dance lesson in 10+++ years last night in honor of my sweet friend Lina.
Lina is getting married in a couple of weeks in the Caribbean so we did a little pre-wedding dance lesson so I wouldn’t totally stick out like a sore thumb with all the South Americans (Lina is Colombian and her fiance is Venezuelan).
The next thing I knew I was salsa-ing and merengue-ing my heart out at Queen City Ballroom. I must admit that I was more slightly awkward but it was great fun. I had an ongoing daydream in my head that I would return every week until I was a pro at this dancing stuff. ๐
My reward for surviving dancing was sushi. Yum, yum, yum!
Skipping ahead to breakfast. How much do you want to dive into that pool of peanut butter right now? You can’t mix the toppings in, you have to spoon around them. (Pumpkin banana oatmeal recipe here.)
Then I went to yoga where there was Edible Art spiced pumpkin cake and Starbucks coffee. Does your morning get any better!?
Lunch was a big salad and half of a turkey sandwich with hummus, avocado, turkey, and brie on sourdough.
Dinner after teaching BodyPump was roasted squash, roasted brussels sprouts and mushrooms and the best baked tofu ever.
Off to watch my most recent obsession. Scandal. Olivia Pope is a princess.
Dancing…love it or two left feet?ย

I have a horrible dancer. I can do simple things but nothing fancy! My dad and I took dance lessons before my wedding but we had to keep it simple because neither of us were that great at remembering or fancy moves – it turned out pretty well though ๐
that is so sweet that you did that with your dad. love it!
I am not a dancer either…I am so stick straight and just CAN’T move my hips to save my life. ๐ Looks like you had so much fun though!! And, that pool of peanut butter? Looks amazing. I totally spoon around the toppings too saving the best for last.
girl, me either. the instructor kept telling me not to be so stiff and to let my hips go and i was like, “this is me swaying my hips.” ๐
I’m a terrible dancer too. Haha.
I’m sure you can totally get into the groove in no time! And can you come one and cook for me?? I can never get over how delicious your food looks all the time!
aw thanks! i’d be happy to cook for anyone! ๐
Love scandal. Just found your site 2 days ago.
Keep on dancing. Your food look so delish, drool.
Can u recommend a good whole wheat bread? As well as gluten free one?
Thanks
hey jodie – thanks for checking out my blog.
as far as whole wheat bread, i typically buy mine locally from bakeries and have them slice a loaf for me.
udi’s has been my favorite gluten free bread. i always keep some in the freezer. good texture and taste.
This is totally random but I’m from Colombia too! Is your friend getting married in Colombia. If so, you will absolutely love it!
no, she’s getting married in the dominican republic but she promises to take me home with her soon!
This is usually the time of year I slowly start eating fewer salads and more soup, but your salad looks amazing!!
Your sushi always looks amazing, I might be visiting NC soon you going to have to tell me all the good sushi joints!
yes, let me know when!
My one attempt at Zumba illustrated that I have no rhythm and my hips don’t sway either…
hahahaha…i have never braved a zumba class!
Worst dancer ever! Well I think that I can dance after a couple glasses of wine, but when it comes to dancing with a partner forget about it…I have such a hard time letting someone else lead…HAHA!
love the part about letting someone else lead! ๐ ๐
Okay I am DEMANDING a baked tofu post – lol! I took your advice on IG and my first try turned out okay but I’m still unsure of seasonings. Oh and I love dancing…especially if there is alcohol involved.
okay, adding to the post list. promise!
I love that you are pushing yourself out of comfort zone and trying new things that you know you can’t do. I can’t dance either but I’ll choose other things to try before dancing, ha! I just ordered a Tofu Press from Amazon today, so I’d love to see tofu related recipes!
let me know how the tofu press works. i usually just plop a le cruset pot on top of mine for a while. haha!
My husband and I took dance lessons at QCB before our wedding, and we had the same instructor (Alyona)! She is awesome…I’m definitely not the best dancer but had so much fun taking lessons with her! Your sushi looks amazing- yum!
i actually loved the lesson. our instructors were so personable and friendly and did a great job making us feel less rhythm challenged! ๐
I can’t dance either!! My husband & I even took lessons before OUR wedding. Still terrible! I love to watch though ๐
I’m OBSESSED with Scandal! Love Olivia! Can’t wait to watch last night’s episode tonight.
I just started reading your blog and love it! I really enjoy your positive and encouraging posts! ๐
tracy – thanks so much for reading. so happy to hear that you are enjoying it!
i don’t think any number of dance lessons could ever make me a “good” dancer! ๐
Ha, I can’t dance either. Picture an elephant on rollerblades. Awkward! Though I would be willing to go to a class if the reward was sushi! Those rolls, whatever kind they are, look amazing!
Your dinner after pump looks yummy! We are eating lots of acorn squash around here too. I took pump for the first time in 2 months this past Wednesday and holy crap I’m still feeling it! Gotta love the mix up of body pump.
haha, love it!
and yes, bodypump is always an amazing workout. total body killer!
Jen, I love your boots! where are they from?
they are from j crew last year. i got them on a great sale and love the gray color.
I LOVE YOUR PLATES!!!
Well, let’s try this again. I love your plates, do you mind if I ask where you found them? If you are anything like me, you might not want to answer, because when I have baller a$$ things, I like to have them unique, so that’s cool if you don’t want to say so everyone isn’t rushing out to get them, but I have been looking for “formal” white plates that are irregular/organic/unique to use as my formal dinnerware and these are just gorgeous. Love them!
Two left feet for sure! Oddly enough, my boyfriend is a highly trained salsa dancer. Thank goodness he has a dance partner because I sure as heck can’t figure it out. ๐
love it!
I not only want to dive headfirst into that pool of oatmeal, but I want to lick all of your other plates clean, every meal looks awesome!
thank you! i love food and making my food pretty!
