Those of you who follow multiple healthy living blogs have probably noticed that trends circulate through the blog world. If it weren’t for these trends I may have never discovered my love for green smoothies, quinoa, chia seeds and overnight oats. It’s funny…I usually ignore the trends for as long as possible, refusing to jump on the bandwagon in favor of individuality, before caving and joining the masses. Then my thought process usually goes, “Hmmm…this is really tasty. What was I waiting for? These bloggers are really on to something.”
Such is the case with Mama Pea’s famous Mmm Sauce. Bloggers have written entire posts dedicated to the deliciousness of Mmm but I held out on trying it until the stars aligned last night. I had all the ingredients on hand and a block of tofu in the fridge just begging to be covered in Mmm.
Mmm Sauce is a mixture of beans, nutritional yeast (yes, I had that in my pantry!), almonds, oil, water, lemon juice, garlic, spices and herbs. It’s super simple to make…dump the ingredients in a blender, give it a whirl and you are done. It kind of reminds me of a cross between goddess dressing and hummus with a little bit of cheesiness thanks to the nutritional yeast.
The verdict? Once again, the blog world was right in its raving about Mmm Sauce. And after my initial taste test, I feel totally confident serving it to Brandon as well. I know he’ll love it too!
I served my Mmm Sauce over baked tofu with brown rice and sauteed spinach. Head on over to Mama Pea’s blog and give it a try!
Have you discovered any new food loves through the blog world?
Other than discovering Mmm Sauce my day was pretty normal. I did get to practice ashtanga for the first time in almost three weeks and to say that it felt good to be back to it would be an understatement. I literally cherished every second of my practice and felt like a whole new person when I left the studio.
Breakfast was overnight oats at my desk…extra special because I had them in an empty peanut butter jar.
And lunch was a veggie sandwich with ranch, avocado, spinach, tomato and sharp white cheddar.
I taught BodyPump after work and decided to go heavy on my weights. Every few weeks I like to really push myself out of my comfort zone. I was dripping with sweat and my muscles were quivering but it felt really good to challenge myself with heavier weight. I love strength training…even though I’m a definitely feeling it today!
Happy Friday!
MOUTH WATERING – too early!
I’ve held on the MMMMM sauce for quite a while now…but I see it come up almost everyday in my blog feeds…this may make be bite the bullet and finally give in!
That looks delicious! I haven’t tried those before…hmmm…not I’m going to have to!
I have yet to indulge in the Mmmm sauce. And I actually have nutritional yeast too! I’ll have to make it some time. 🙂
I discovered chia seeds through blogs and I love putting them in my oatmeal. It makes it so thick and gummy.
Ok, now I really HAVE to try Mmm sauce!! I’ve had it bookmarked for so long, but I am definitely trying it soon!! 😀
I have to try the MMM sauce because Mama Pea’s other recipes have been so good when I try them! I’ve been looking for the nutritional yeast (a blogger food I read about all the time) but I can’t find it! I had my last straw with cheese last weekend when it made my stomach go crazy (lactose intolerant but love cheese and I try to push it!). I really want to find the nutritional yeast so it can take the place of cheese! Got excited just seeing your Pump pic because I’m obsessed. I’m surprisingly not that sore after my tough class last night!
I have yet to try mmm sauce, but I’ve never heard anything but great things about it. Guess it’s time to give it a try!
Oh my goodness! This got me thinking of how you love Kombucha and how you influenced me to try it. I bought one last night and saved it for my Friday night and I am drinking it now. I know why you love it now!! It’s so crazy how it makes me feel, I don’t know if it’s all in my head or what but my body feels all tingly. Are you suppose to drink all of it, even the bits floating in the drink? I am drinking all of it but just wasn’t sure what everybody else does. Glad I finally caved and tried it. I love it! I won’t get to buy it very often but it will be a nice treat when I do.
Have a great Friday night!
i need to try this sauce for sure! oh and be careful this weekend! praying that the weather dies down for you guys!!
I’ve been holding out on Mmm sauce too – what am I waiting for?? Through blogs, I have discovered just the thing you ate today – overnight oats/oats in a jar- genius!
And I second Lindsay – be careful!!!
I know what you mean about trying to resist trends, but I have no idea why I do it! This sauce looks great, I’m totally making it.
Okay…I think I am seriously going to become a yoga instructor. I had an amazing practice on Friday (Vinyasa) and am amazed at how much yoga I’m using w/ my PT clients. I think it may be a good addition to my life:) Yoga teacher training might be the top of the list for 2012:)
I have not tried the MMM sauce yet, although I too have been hearing about it.
I did try your avocado, cheese, spinach, egg, open faced sandwich. LOVED!
yum! so glad you enjoyed!
Oh man – I have discovered SO much through Healthy Living Blogs!!
Just tonight, I added oats to my smoothie-in-a-bowl using chia seeds and peanut butter! I mean, that’s four things RIGHT THERE that I gained from blogs!
Tomorrow, I make chickpea burgers… that’ll make five in a 48 hour period! 🙂 (Definitely get tons of tips from you, too – so thank you!)
