I was like the tin man getting out of bed this morning. I almost crumbled to the ground when I tried to stand up because my calf muscles were so sore. While my long runs left me with tired legs, they never left me this sore. Amping up the intensity/pace for a race + hills takes running to a new level!
Let’s talk about the weekend and last week’s workouts.
I started my Friday with a visit to my (amazing) chiropractor, Dr. Doug Bradberry at Greenapple Sports and Wellness for a pre-race tune up and adjustment. We met when I did the Charlotte Talks NPR program about running. He was one of the other guests on the show. He did some stim, active release therapy, laser work and an adjustment. I felt ready to run after the appointment!
I continued spoiling myself with a peel with Dede at Carolina Facial Plastics. It had been over two months since my last peel because I’ve been so busy. I don’t even realize how much I need the treatment until I have it. My skin looked night and day different before and after. It was just kind of dull and needing exfoliation before. I have had multiple people tell me that my skin “looks so good and is glowing” post peel. The shot above is 100% no makeup other than mascara.
Y’all know what I did on Saturday…if you missed my Thunder Road Half Marathon recap, read it here! I spent the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing. I literally did not move from the couch for 7 hours. It was pretty fab.
My Sunday was slightly more productive but fun. I taught yoga this morning and then hopped in the car to meet two of my most favorite people for brunch, Teri and Leslie Ann. We drank bloody marys, ate delicious food and had great conversation.
At their recommendation I stopped by Camino Bakery on my way out of town for a chai. Driving an hour and a half to Winston for brunch was a big time commitment but I actually loved the quiet time in the car to listen to an audio book and seeing the girls made my weekend.
I took Sullie for a long walk when I got home this evening and then was so fortunate to have the gift of a post-race massage. It was the perfect way to end the weekend.
I’ll wrap up this post with a quick recap of the week’s workouts. They were very tame in preparation for the race.

Congrats on your race! It sounds like you had a lovely week and even better weekend. A long day if relaxing was definitely in order!
Looks like such an amazing weekend!! 🙂 Congrats again on the race!
Jen it sounds like you had an amazing weekend. I can only imagine how stiff you were after running that fast! Hope you have a wonderful Monday!
your skin REALLY does look amazing!!! Heading to Winston this week, so i’ll definitely be checking out Camino Bakery!
Oh a massage and facial sound fabulous…Glad you were able to treat yourself to these and enjoy them…I’d be surprised if you weren’t sore after that killer race. Great job again! 🙂
Good for you, taking easy days before a race. I find it so hard!
I always get a massage after a half or full marathon. It’s a total game changer!
Your skin looks great! How long have you been getting that treatment done? Is it wicked expensive?
