What is it about Target that throws any good budgeting intentions and rationale out of the window and makes a girl feel like it’s her DUTY to take a stroll through women’s clothes, home accessories and the makeup and beauty aisle? I walked into Target on Saturday to get toilet paper. I left with Charmin Ultra Soft as well as two new tank tops and four new makeup products.
Oh well. I have already worn both tank tops and I’m liking the new makeup finds.
So much so that I thought I would share them with you.
1) Maybeline Master Smoky Eyeliner in Scorching Brown
2) Sonia Kashuk Eye Quad in Shimmering Sands
3) Maybeline Lash Stiletto Mascara in Waterproof Very Black
4) Elf Contouring Blush & Bronzer
I usually stick to a selection of tried and trusted Bobby Brown or Laura Mercier makeup products but recently I’ve been experimenting with some drugstore products for fun. I would say that one of the things I dislike most about the drugstore products is the packaging. For example, I like this smoky eyeliner but it’s already falling out of the tube and I’ve only had it for three days. I find that the packaging tends to break or malfunction more often.
This shimmering sands eye quad from Sonia Kashunk us my favorite purchase, it was also the most expensive at $16 but I thought it was worth it given that I was getting four beautiful shimmery neutral shades.
This contouring blush and bronzer from Elf is my second favorite purchase and it was only $3! What a bargain! I am a blush/bronzer freak. If I could only pick one makeup product to put on my face, it would definitely be blush.
I like the Maybeline Master Smoky eyeliner although I much prefer Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick for a smoky eye look. And the Maybeline Stiletto Mascara definitely delivers on length but I’ve tried better mascaras that lengthen AND thicken. This mascara is perfect if you are going for lots of length but don’t need much help on volume. I need both.
All together on the face before dinner out on Saturday night (and wearing a new Target tank!). Oh, and I should mention that I haven’t dried/straightened my hair in weeks and I’m embracing the wet wave, buns and braids. I desperately need a hair cut and color! 😉
Have you made any new makeup discoveries lately? Please share!
Love the e.l.f. contouring duo, highly pigmented and comparable to NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo. And I agree with the mascara, I normally use it to add length then use another mascara on top to add volume and thickness. But its a nice non-clumping mascara. I generally use drugstore and high-end products, but I’ve been loving some great things from Wet N’ Wild and Jordana USA!
I went to Target on Sunday to find a O.P.I color, but instead ended up leaving with cleaning supplies, Suave coconut body wash, and candles. It always ends up being a basket full of randomness. I always buy Maybeline mascara from Target. I’m all about the natural wave and french braids these too. I need a haircut soon, but going to hold off for a bit. HA!
so cute! I’d love to see your tanks from target, too! I cannot enter that store without spending a minimum of $50! Their accessories are also good & cheap, too!
It’s not Target stuff but I’ve been a devoted wearer of Bobbi Brown’s cream eye liner for years now. It’s the best–comes in a pot and takes a bit of practice to get it right. However, it’s fabulous!! It is still in place at the end of the day and even lasts through sweaty workouts!
It’s so hard for me to enter a Target without leaving with something! I just splurged on some dresses and skirts there! I am not big on make up, but the Vita Aqualumiere liquid foundation by Chanel is the one thing I will splurge for. It’s expensive but lasts for over 6 months, and does wonders for any complexion. Additionally, it’s light, oil free, and SPF 15!
MAC 217 brush!
Jen, what’s your go-to makeup look at the gym? I typically go bare-faced, but since you work at a gym, what do you tend to do? I’ll sometimes keep my makeup on if i have to go after work, but I prefer to wash it off before I get all sweaty. Just curious!
You’re so beautiful! I want to try that eyeshadow now!
No new makeup finds, but I am obsessed with everything Tarte…their products, their philosophy, their story. Haven’t been disappointed with a product yet! Highly recommend.
Love this post 🙂 I always read, but comment rarely.
What is your favorite waterproof mascara? I am always on the prowl for a good one.
I’ve had a lot of success with layering 2 or more drugstore mascaras – I like the coverage, volume, and length MUCH better than DiorShow…. plus it gives me the push to use up all the mascaras I buy on a whim and they end up going out of date before i use them all. I like LashBlast in the orange tube, Flamed Out, and Volum Express The Rocket.
i liked this post a lot! I would love to see more makeup posts, beauty products you use, etc. I’m also interested in your “gym face” as well, like someone else said.
this happens to me every. single. time. at Target. I go in for Shampoo and hundreds of dollars of merchandise later I am strolling back out. Happily of course but still. Target is like the Bermuda Triangle for my money…it just disappears there
I’m a Sephora junkie – my latest favorite find is Boscia BB Cream – I use it as a one step SPF/foundation/moisture.
