Happy Father’s Day and Happy International Yoga Day! It’s also the Summer Solstice, which marks the official first day of summer.
Today over 10,000 people will practice yoga in Times Square in New York City in honor of the solstice and International Yoga Day. The event is taking place from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and benefits three yoga charities. You can live stream the event online. Check out the website for more details.
One of the most personally rewarding things about writing this blog for the last 5+ years has been how many people have reached out to me to let me know they tried their first yoga class because they were encouraged by my posts about it. Many have gone on to establish a regular practice and more than I can count have gone on to pursue teacher training themselves. This alone is enough reason for the 1,600+ posts that I’ve written. It’s been an honor for me to share my yoga journey with all of you.

Do you practice yoga? How long have you been practicing? What does your practice do for you?
Oh yoga means so much to me and has given so much to me! My practice is constantly changing and growing as I go through this crazy Kookie Katie life. Have a beautiful Sunday friend! xoxo
I don’t practice yoga regularly but I love it so much! Very detoxifying and relaxing!
Hi!! I love your posts and weekly workout recaps! I know you practice yoga regularly and get a lot of stretching in that way but what do your warm-up and cooldown look like for your other workouts? What type of mobility and stretching do you do? I would love to see a post on this. Thanks, Jen!
Great question Sarah! I will put together a post on this.
I am a long-time reader and new yogi because of you. I dove all in at the beginning of the year and have been attending 3x a week! I love my practice — learning, growing and expanding each time I step on my mat. Some of the biggest benefits that I’ve seen is my own mindfulness and allowing myself to find space, let go of perfection tendencies, and to breathe!!
Do you think it would ever be possible to film one of your classes so we can view your style? I am so curious as you’ve inspired my own practice and I see the same few teachers each week.
Hey Jenny, this makes my heart happy!!! I’m so glad you’ve committed to practice and are enjoying it. I definitely need to find a way to record my classes. I get requests all the time!
Hi Jen! Yay for yoga. I practice once-a-week at home using online classes, and it’s something that makes me feel very good. I absolutely despised yoga for a long time, but over the past two years, I have tried tons of styles and studios and all of a sudden appreciate the benefits — suddenly enjoying it too. I would like to take one hot yoga class a week if I could, but it’s hard to fit it in, so for now the shorter sessions at home work for me. I just went back to read your 11 yoga tips, and I love that you rub peoples’ feet. I am sucker for “contact” from a yoga instructor — LOVE IT! 🙂
I always love it when people have strong home practices. What are your favorite online classes? I get asked all the time for recommendations. I am totally a hands on yoga teacher! 🙂
I have been regularly practicing yoga for 1.5 years and it has been so beneficial (mentally and physically). Your posts and Instagrams are so inspiring 🙂 I actually walked by the yoga event in Times Square just as it was ending. I was out of town for the day or would have loved to join.
Aw, thank you so much! That’s so cool that you walked by the event!
I read a great article on BBC about international yoga day. I think it’s a fabulous thing and a great way to bring people together to honour their bodies and promote peace.
Totally agree!
I’ve practiced yoga on and off, but need to get back on!
I feel my best when I figure out how to make it happen on a regular basis.
I had no idea it was International Yoga Day! I’ll have to do a couple of down dogs in the airport before my flight this morning 😉
