As I’ve shared with you many times before, I really enjoy putting together playlists for my yoga classes. Music is such a powerful way to connect engage your students with the experience of class. Since I started using Spotify last summer (I wish I’d have listened to all of your encouragement to make the switch long before I did), I make new playlists more than ever. I teach 10 classes a week and make at least 3-4 playlists each week and then rotate through a mix of new and old for the other classes.
I get really excited when my students come up to me after class and say they loved the music or ask about specific songs. Every now and then there is a “power song” that hooks everyone and this past week it’s been a song that I’ve been playing in savasana (final rest).
The song is Kinder by Copper Wimmin and it’s not only beautifully sung but the messaging behind it is so amazing. It’s the words I want on repeat in my head all day and clearly so do my students. I had one say they want to frame the lyrics and give it to all the important women in their life for mother’s day and another say that they wanted to blast it through the speaker system in their house every single day for their kids to listen to.
Please, please, please close your eyes and listen to the song. It’s less than 3 minutes long and a wonderful short meditation.
I also made a graphic of the lyrics so that I could keep it for myself and share it with you.
One of the things I love most about these lyrics is the phrase, “I’ve decided.” Always remember that you have a choice about how you want to feel.
Sending lots of love, kindness and gratitude to all of you tonight. I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
xo,
Jen
P.S. You can follow me on Spotify and get access to all of my playlists. I make them public.
What a wonderful message, thank you Jen, I needed to hear this. Adding that song to my Spotify account now!
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you liked it.
Love it, Jen! You are always so positive and inspirational. Thank you for sharing this today. Definitely adding this to my Spotify playlist(s), too! Hope you have a great Wednesday. 🙂 xo
You are so welcome Nikki! Have a great weekend!
That was really beautiful … a great message … and something I appreciate during a very ‘richly scheduled’ week!
Thanks Jen!
Can I tell you how much I LOVE “richly scheduled.” That’s awesome!
Timing is impeccable. This was a much needed inspiration that arrived in my inbox EXACTLY when I needed it! Thank you for sharing, Jen.
P.S. I’m so excited to receive my necklace. 🙂
So happy to hear that! And we should be able to get it made and out to you after the Mother’s Day rush! xo
Oh man, thank you for sharing that song! Today was a loooong day (including a brutal exam), and this was a great message to receive. I also had a long chat with a friend about the rigors of our program and how many students struggle in graduate/professional school, and this message really resonated with our conversation. Very timely, both for my life and for many others (I’m sure)!
Hi Jess – you are so welcome. I am really glad that the song came at a good time and to hear that you have a friend that you can talk to about the stress you’re feeling. Hang in there and sending you strength!
