I’m currently stretched out on the couch with jello legs. Which I personally think is a great feeling. š My workout this afternoon put me in this state.
I ran three hilly miles outside and then came in the gym to do a strength circuit involving 60 barbell back squats at 75 pounds…thus the jello legs. And I am loving my new Run Happy visor which was a gift from Omega Sports for hosting the strength and stability workshop for them last week.
I just love squatting and nine times out of ten you will see meĀ incorporate them into my workout when I program for myself.
Rewind…a lot happened before I got around to working out. I taught my normal Sunday morning hot class at Y2 and then went out to brunch with some friends at Cafe Monte. I had theĀ Florentine Quiche (same thing I always get).
And split the lobster salad with one of my dining companions. Love how they are not stingy with the lobster. Yum!
And then I came home and went CRAZY on the kitchen. I emptied every single thing out of the fridge and the freezer, purged, cleaned and restocked.
Ahhh…clean, organized and stocked fridge. I also organized drawers and cabinets, cleaned the microwave, disinfected every possible surface, you get the drill. It felt good.
I baked paleo banana bread in my newly cleaned kitchen.
Post-workout dinner was a burrito bowl with lime jasmin rice, sauteed shrimp, black beans, avocado, grape tomatoes, goat gouda, plain greek yogurt and salsa.
Time to update the Metro CrossFit blog and then bed.
I love a good fridge overhaul! We just finished our kitchen remodel and I spent the entire weekend organizing. It looks so amazing!!!
oh so jealous of your kitchen remodel. i need one desperately!
Would love the paleo banana bread recipe… and I heart purging. Feels so good!!
it’s not quite ready to share yet but i’m going to work to get it there! taste is excellent, texture a little off.
Seconding the request for the paleo banana bread recipe! I love the result of cleaning…but I’ve never appreciated the process as much š
i will post it as soon as it’s share worthy. the taste is good but the texture is a little off.
The bread looks delicious! We are in the middle of a move and I cannot wait to get into our new house and get organized. Clean slates are the best.
Haha, I want the banana bread recipe too please! Whenever you see a good result with paleo banana bread, it’s a must keep recipe. Your weekend looks like a lot of good eats. Yum! Happy Monday.
i will post it as soon as i do one more test batch. needs some tweaking to get the texture the way i want it.
Yum! What a tasty day of eats š I can’t believe how much lobster they put on that salad!! I also love/hate the jello leg feeling š Doesn’t spring cleaning feel amazing? Yay for a fresh new start!
Mmm I love a mexican-inspired salad topped with salsa as a dressing – looks delish, as does the paleo bread. Also love the jello leg phenomenon – its evidence of some serious effort and, for types who can’t seem to rest without a very real reason, it forces you to truly rest and restore.
That burrito bowl looks really really yummy!
Oh I feel you on the jello legs! I am attempting Insanity. Yikes! One week in and I’m sore in that really good feeling way.
Didn’t make Banana bread last night but tried Zucchini bread instead. Would like to peak at your Paleo recipe though !
oh gah, insanity is brutal! good luck!
i love zucchini bread too!
Hi Jen,
Your “bowl” lunches always look so good. My question is – do you heat them?
not always but usually. i typically at least heat the grain a little so it’s not cold and hard.
I’m always incorporating squats into any workout that I do. Love my strong legs and butt! š With all the running that I have been doing, heavy squatting though hurts my knees, so I’m just doing lots of reps and no weight. YUMMY lobster salad!
i love bodyweight squats and lunges too! anytime a girl asks me “how do i tone this?” while pointing to their upper leg/butt region, my response is always squats and lunges! š
I third the request for the paleo banana bread! š
i need to test it one more time with some variations and then i will share!
if anyone has an answer for me please chime in. I had terrible knee pain earlier in the year when squatting. a physical therapist told me I am probably ‘quad dominant’ in my squatting, and need to engage my glutes whil squatting. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him about his – does he mean to tighten my glutes while squatting? the pain in my knees was coming from over use injuries in my quads.
hey trish – i can help you out with this. it’s important to be well-balanced with strength in the front and back of your legs (quads/hip flexors v. hamstrings/butt). it’s very typical for people to get quad dominant in our sitting society and develop weak butts. you need to work on training your glutes to engage and fire. google “glute activation exercises” and you will find tons of things to do. it’s not just engaging your glutes, they have become weak and you need to strengthen them and train them to fire again.
let me know if you have any other questions!
Gosh your brunch looks amazing! This post encouraged me to get into the kitchen and whip up my version of paleo bread š Do you have a favorite recipe?
i am working on it! hope to have one to share soon!
Isn’t cleaning out the fridge so gratifying?! Weird, but it does feel good.
Also- would really love that banana bread recipe!! We love it, and if I could get a healthier recipe (and sneak it in so my husband wouldn’t notice) that would be awesome.
yes, i’ve loved my clean fridge all week. i will share the recipe very soon! need to make some tweaks.
Hey!
I absolutely love the new piece of jewelry you have been wearing in all your photos. Where is your necklace from? Thanks!
Thanks for this post, seeing your fridge clean out inspired me to do my own…and then I even moved on to the kitchen drawers & cupboards š
go girl! nice work. i did a couple drawers and the dreaded tupperware cabinet too!
