Happy weekend friends! I’m enjoying a rare weekend in Charlotte while Finn is with his dad and it’s been nice and low-key…and full of yoga! I took my friend Rian’s class at 5:30p on Friday at Charlotte Yoga and it was everything I needed it to be and so much more. It was hot, hard, tons of flow and I sweated my life away in the best way. I also got to practice next to someone I haven’t seen in years so that was fun. I felt so happily wrung out at the end.
I came home and showered, made myself dinner and watched a Netflix movie on the couch. I watched The Last Letter from Your Lover and it was neither good nor bad. Just a solid mediocre gets the job done on a Friday night kind of movie.
My main goal for Saturday morning was making it to the Matthews Community Farmers Market. I even set an alarm so I could get there early to snag the best stuff. Here’s what came home with me: fresh figs, peaches, cantaloupe, eggs, cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, garlic and a loaf of rustic oat bread that tastes very sourdough-y from Verdant Bread.
I quickly unloaded my farmers market goods when I got home and then headed out to teach a double header. I started with a hot power yoga class at Vibes at 10:45a and then another at Charlotte Yoga at 12:30p. I came home and ate two tomato sandwiches and a handful of figs.
This afternoon has consisted of computer work, laundry and dog walking.
One the subject of dogs…Thursday was Benji’s second birthday!!!
I’ll share what I wrote on Instagram about Benji:
Wishing our Benji boy a happy second birthday! This smart, affectionate, sensitive pup has brought so much joy into our lives, and I hope we’ve paid it back to him because he deserves unconditional love.
It wasn’t the easiest year. Benji came to us as a seven month old rescue in March 2020. He has always struggled with anxiety but had a very hard time with our move to a new house last August. There were some really tough moments but I’m grateful that we stayed the course and didn’t give up on this sweet boy.
I share this because I am a dog lover and I think dogs are the best! That being said, being a dog owner is hard and has a lot of ups and downs. My dogs do things on the regular where I am like…whhhyyyyy…but at the end of the day, I can’t imagine life or my house without a dog in it.
Benji really struggled for several months after our move into the new house last August. There were a lot of phone calls and texts to his foster mom, the rescue and his trainer. I felt so grateful to have a village of support behind me to help Benji feel safe, secure and loved. Seriously, the team at Triad Golden Retriever Rescue goes above and beyond to support their dogs and their adopted families.
Just like I share the ups and downs of life, I think it’s important to talk about the ups and downs of being a dog owner. Zoey and Benji both push me to the edges of my patience sometimes but they also bring so much joy and so many smiles into my life. And Finn adores them too!
Back to the present moment…I just got home from walking the dogs and after I push publish on this post I am going to make some dinner and probably go back to Manifest on Netflix.
My Sunday morning will consist of meeting someone at my rental house to look at a drainage issue in the backyard (yay) and then subbing another yoga class at Charlotte Yoga before I pick up Finn around noon. I’m hoping the weather is nice for a Sunday afternoon at the pool! I snapped this picture of him on Friday morning. He’s the cutest.
QUESTIONS
Did you go to the farmers market this weekend? What did you get?
Do you like figs? Favorite ways to use them?
Have you streamed any good movies lately on Netflix, Amazon, etc.? Please share recommendations! It’s always SO hard to find a good one in the moment.
Dogs are the best and you are right not always easy but worth it 100 times over. I recently lost my 14 year old best friend Ginger my labradoodle.and it is tough everyday. She was the sweetest joyfulful dog who filled my heart everyday. Seeing pictures of your dogs brings joy to my heart.
I Love figs!!!
My favorite way to eat them is how my Nonnie made them. Toasted fresh sourdough bread with skittle butter, then she would open the fig and spread it right on the toast. So good!!!
I love how much effort you put into helping Benji!!! I’m a long time follower – from the bacon and eggs era, so I know what you’ve dealt with. I’m so impressed with how you’ve handled everything, and additionally that you didn’t give up on Benji, given all your other responsibilities. There’s a back story with me that I won’t bore u with, but I am a dog lover and can’t imagine life without a dog!!!
Dogs are TOUGH but so worth it!! I’m glad you have such a fantastic support system for Benji and that he and Zoey bring you so much joy ❤️
I don’t know if it’s on Netflix, but we just watched Instant Family and loved it! Also, Good on Paper was hilarious and an easy watch! That’s definitely on Netflix
There is a farmer’s market right by where my running club finishes its long runs, I always think I’m going to go but then I’m too sweaty and hungry. But maybe this weekend I’ll pack some dry clothes and then get something to eat there!
We actually had a fig tree in our back yard when we moved into our house and my husband HATED it and eventually cut it down. It attracted so many wasps! (That’s how they pollenate, the flowers attract wasps.) I loved how much shade it gave our patio but it was impossible to stay out there long when it was fruiting because the wasps were insane. So anyway, I don’t like figs that much because I associate them with wasps. But maybe I’m weird.
I haven’t had the attention span to watch many movies lately (I do like a lot of the documentaries that Netflix recommends). I’ve been re-watching Top Chef from the beginning on Hulu!
