I spent this weekend in Charleston, South Carolina for my friend Michelle’s bachelorette party. Brandon and I lived in Charleston for a year after college and were married there so it holds a very special place in my heart. We had a fun girl’s weekend. I wanted to update the blog yesterday but the wireless at the coffee shop was down ๐ So you’re getting a full weekend update!
One of the hardest things about traveling is sticking to semi-regular eating and exercise habits. I always pack my running clothes and try to make healthy choices while still enjoying a few splurges too.
I kicked off the “healthy choices” mentality by packing my lunch for the drive down. I always pack food for the road if possible to avoid fast food.
Peanut butter and jelly on 7-grain, goldfish and a bottle of water. The goldfish were part of our “move-in survival kit” from our realtor. Love those things!
I arrived in Charleston just in time to head downtown for our dinner reservations at Social.
I started out with the House Salad – Candied Pine Nuts, Pickled Red Onion, Parsnips, Balsamic Vinaigrette.
And then the Vegetarian Pizza – Artichokes, Kalamata Olives, Tomatoes, Spinach, Pesto, Feta. The pizza was SO GOOD. I can’t even explain how crispy and delicious the crust was. I ate half of this and shared the other half with other girls at the table.
And it wouldn’t be a bachelorette outing without a champagne toast!
Saturday morning I headed out for a run around Sullivan’s Island. There is nothing better than running with a view of the ocean! I only ran about 3 miles but it felt great to get moving. After my run I headed over to Cafe Medley for coffee and breakfast (and to update my blog – which sadly didn’t happen).
This place was so cute and had great looking pastries. I spotted a big jar of homemade granola and it was calling my name! I ordered yogurt, granola and fresh fruit and had black coffee on the side. Enjoyed on the porch in a real bowl!
Lunch was eaten at one of my all-time favorite spots, Poe’s Tavern.
Poe’s has awesome burgers but since we were planning on spending the afternoon on the beach, I decided to go with the Yellowfin Tuna Tacos.
Spiced yellowfin tuna tacos with pineapple relish, shredded cabbage and chipotle sour cream. I also had a bloody mary on the side ๐
We spent the afternoon on the beach – the weather was perfect!
Dinner was unpictured (my camera was in my beach bag back at the house) at Off the Hook.
I had a grilled grouper sandwich and fried okra. It was good but nothing special. We stayed out at Off the Hook pretty late last night. Fun times!
I was up early this morning and decided to get on the road to Charlotte since we have sooo much unpacking and organizing to do. I also really wanted to make an afternoon hot yoga class (a good detoxing sweat was so necessary!) and I had to clean our old apartment. I stopped at Bagel Nation on my way out and got a whole wheat bagel with lite veggie cream cheese for breakfast. And another pit stop at Starbucks to pick up coffee.
It was nice to get back to Charlotte early. Yoga was awesome. I was definitely feeling the late nights, drinks and food but felt much better after class. I stopped at Smoothie King on my way to the apartment and got a smoothie with strawberries, bananas, papaya and electrolyte powder. I spent three hours cleaning the apartment – scrubbing, mopping, sweeping. No fun at all but we are completely done and moved out now! The new house is looking SO good. I can’t believe how much work Brandon did while I was gone this weekend.
Dinner was again unpictured tonight – I was just too tired. We stopped by my in law’s for dinner. I had a tiny piece of grilled barbecue chicken breast, a big serving of mac and cheese, lots of salad (couldn’t get enough greens!) and fruit. Dessert was a small piece of Tres Leches cake.
I am exhausted from the weekend and have to be up super early to teach BodyPump tomorrow. Hope you all had a great weekend!
