Good morning! Thanks for two things. First, all of your interest in the KIND bar giveaway. Second, your amazing responses. I know I ask y’all to tell me what you’re grateful for regularly when it comes to giveaways but it’s only because I think it’s such a good “stop, pause, think” activity + I ADORE reading your responses. They make my day!
I had a really, really good Monday. One of the highlights was meeting with the founder of Lumi juices (Lumi stands for “love you mean it”…so sweet), Hillary, at my favorite lunch spot, The Mayobird. For lunch I had a salad, pita chips and a scoop of chicken salad with granny smith apples and goat cheese. It was a delicious chicken salad combo.
Hillary and I talked for over an hour about everything from her organic cold pressed juices to business strategy to relationships to the epidemic of competition among women and much, much more. Look for some fun partnerships coming up soon along with a review of the juices as soon as I make my way through them all!
Did you know that Monday was National Puppy Day? I swear my Instagram feed was straight up dogs all day…which was pretty awesome. Zoey gave me this gift in honor of National Puppy Day. I looked out the bathroom window to see her standing proudly in front of a bag of mulch which she clearly entertained herself with. How could I be mad at that?
I just looked back through old puppy pictures and forgave her in no time. Can you believe how much she’s grown in four months!? This was the first day she came home!
Finally, I did a big shopping trip to Whole Foods on Sunday evening and snapped photos of what I bought. I like sharing what a weekly trip looks like for me every now and then.

I used to menu plan for the week and know exactly what recipes I was going to make. I would spend hours on Sundays reading through cookbooks and looking up recipes online. These days, I’m pretty adept at stocking up on various proteins, fruits, veggies and grains and making meals from what I have on hand each night (as well as eating most of my breakfasts and lunches at home too). Between my pantry staples and what I pick up weekly, I can always put something together and I’ve gotten pretty good at not having a lot of food waste at the end of the week.
While I miss trying new recipes sometimes, I also kind of enjoy the challenge of getting creative and coming up with ideas on my own. For example, this week’s meals so far have been…
– Blackened lake trout over truffle oil and parmesan cauliflower puree with roasted asparagus (already had the asparagus from previous week)
– Barbecue, avocado and gouda chicken burgers with a big pan of roasted turnips, brussels sprouts, carrots and parsnips
I’ll post more eats later in the week!
Have a great day!
Did you celebrate National Puppy Day?
Do you menu plan and shop for the week, buy basics and wing it or find yourself making daily shopping trips? Big tip…try to do one big food shopping trip a week. It saves SO MUCH money rather than going to the store every night to get something for dinner.
I bought tofu for the first time this week! Anxious to try it and see if I like it.
I usually do one big shopping trip on Sunday, and then head to the grocery store during the week if I have to pick up just a few things.
I have a HUGE weakness for popchips. I love them all! I haven’t seen the sweet potato ones in Canada yet though 🙁
I try SO hard to shop only once a week but Trader Joe’s is always screwing me up because they are forever out of something that I need!
I completely forgot to post a picture of my puppy, so you bet I am going to do it today! I love to meal plan, but on those weeks when I don’t have time, I do what you do and just stock up on proteins and produce and then make whatever meals I can!
I do one big shopping trip over the weekend and usually end up going once during the week to pick up extra stuff, but not always!
It’s always fun to see a grocery haul! I’m in college and don’t have a meal plan but my car’s parked about a mile away, so one grocery store trip per week is definitely all that I do!
National Puppy Day is wonderful, isn’t it! And what delicious food!
I love the grocery haul posts too…keep ’em coming! For the past year I’ve been doing meal planning and a big shop on Sunday for the week (with a couple stops during the week if I’ve forgotten something). It’s amazing how much I’ve gotten our grocery budget under control and reduced food waste. I still allow some flexibility in the meal planning (for impromptu friend get-togethers, going out to dinner, etc), but I’m loving this system. Plus it cuts down on the inevitable “what’s for dinner” conundrum that my husband and I used to face on a regular basis! I just wish I’d started this system sooner! 🙂
P.S. I love that you keep it real by showing the wine and snacks in your photos!
I loved having all the pups fill up my insta feed! I stole my parents pup and had a good snuggle with her yesterday. Then she helped me clean the house by gathering every sock she could find 🙂
Hah! Zoe looks so proud of her accomplishment…no bashful pup there at all. I celebrated National Puppy Day by pretty much reading every puppy article on buzzfeed that ever existed. I travel every week for work and no pets allowed in these hotels!
Hey – Just wanted to let you know your book arrived on my doorstep last night! From Amazon. Headed to AZ today for a week-long vacation and bringing it with me!
Menu planning and making one big trip to the grocery store each week changed my life 🙂 I used to make a few small trips, spend way too much money on random items (that together didn’t make a meal), and forever be saying “I have nothing to eat!” Now, I jot down meal ideas throughout the week (I get lots of ideas from blogs like yours!), finalize my list on Thursday night, and hit the grocery store Friday morning (my one day off each week!)
I got my book today! I’m so excited to incorporate it into my fitness routine and Im bringing it with me when we go to moab in May!
