Good morning. I hope your Tuesday is off to a great start.
Last week was a little nuts. I taught 13 classes (11 yoga and 2 at the Y), ran the half marathon and had a party on Saturday night. Honestly, I think it was too much. I kind of hit the wall on Monday afternoon (I wasn’t really tired, just blah) and got a last-minute sub for my Monday evening class and my Tuesday 6 a.m. Instead of teaching my late class, I came home and knocked out some work that had been looming over me. When Tanner got home we went out for a short but nice evening run and then cooked dinner together and watched Parenthood. I woke up at 7:15 this morning ready for the day after my mini-reset.
Here are some late weekend scenes and then I’m off to teach at 9:30 and then get my own practice in.
Dr. Bradberry’s office just happens to be right by Polka Dot Bake Shop so of course I had to “carb load” on Friday afternoon before my race. KT taping and cupcakes…all the most important race prep, right?
I ran over to Dick’s Sporting Goods on Friday evening to pick up a new pair of compression socks. I had to laugh at the giant wall of Nike Tempo Shorts. I think I’ve phased most of them out of my running wardrobe but they used to be all the rage. I had so many colors!
Pre-race turkey burger dinner.
Post-race and post-teaching hot yoga mimosa on Saturday afternoon. I thought it was well-earned.
We laughed so hard at lunch when one of our students came out of the locker room wearing this tank top. The best part about it? He’s a police officer and I had just seen him working the race course earlier that day. He came to the studio after the race for class and then rocked this awesome tank after. Fun fact…we have a lot of CMPD employees that practice with us after we did a “yoga and workplace stress” study with them last year. (It went really well and had amazing results!)
Saturday afternoon at the park.
A girl and her ball.
BFF Dorie’s birthday party on Saturday night.
I ate three mini cupcakes, bacon wrapped scallops, a ton of Dorie’s famous artichoke dip and some sushi rolls and then we rolled out of the party at 10 p.m. and headed home and straight to bed. LONG DAY!
Sunday morning cuddles.
Sunday afternoon HIIT class at the Y. 1 minute at each of these stations, 3 times through with about 90 seconds rest between each round. It was a sweaty, fun time!
Have a good day guys!
What’s your favorite pre-race meal?
What’s your favorite post-race beverage?
Where did you get that red cut out top you are wearing above? It’s so cute!
I love the red shirt you are wearing in the birthday party pic. Where is it from? 🙂
Ditto! Love the top!
I had the same experience at Dick’s Sporting Goods last weekend- I was there to buy compression socks and also laughed at wall of Nike Tempo Shorts. I thought those were totally out? I guess Dick’s doesn’t think so!
I think I need that tank top.
My favorite pre-race meal is a bagel (or toast) with peanut butter and maybe some sliced banana.
I always think my favorite post-race drink is beer but it’s actually unsweetened iced tea! Beer always sounds good, but some caffeine sounds better. Then I’ll switch to beer after I’m rehydrated. 🙂
I agree! I always see the beer and I’m like, “I’ll have coffee and a bunch of water first!”
Hello Jen,
I love reading your posts. I tune in a couple times a week 🙂
I work at a fitness studio and we have been trying to tap into the local police and fire departments in the area to attend before but with not much success. Would you mind sharing a little more detail on what you did for the study?
Thank you so much for your time!
Kim
Hi Kim! Thank you for reading my blog!
RE: the CMPD partnership, one of our students is a research professor at UNCC and set up this study as part of her research. It was a formal study with surveys, weekly check-ins, etc. It ended up being very beneficial for both the CMPD staff and the studio and many still practice with us after the study.
If you’re looking to get more of them into class, do you offer a discount for fire and police? You could also reach out directly to the chief to see if you could work out any sort of partnership.
Thank you so much Jen!
We do offer discounts :-). Reaching out to the cheif is a great idea thank you!
I’m so glad you had a chance to reset (and sleep!) after the busy week 🙂
I had my best race ever after eating steak and potatoes for dinner so that’s kind of my go-to (or something similar)! I have to comment on the Nike shorts wall…I’ve mostly phased them out of my wardrobe as well, but they occasionally make an appearance.
Burgers are DEFINITELY my favorite pre-race meal! I mean I love burgers anyway, but they are so good before a good long run…add some sweet potato fries and I am one happy lady! 🙂
Sounds like a productive and rewarding Saturday! That tank made me laugh outloud. Very cool. Thanks for sharing – I love keeping up with you! xo Nikki
Thank you so much for reading Nikki! 🙂
You have been busy!! Glad you got a little down time.
Love that the police officers have been coming in! So cool!
Can you do a post about your favorite workout/running gear? I’m trying to branch out from the Tempo shorts but don’t really know what to try next! Unless I’m running outside in sub-40 degrees, I get too hot in pants or capris. I’d love to know what all you’ve tried and like!
YES! On it super soon!
