Hi! I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. I stayed in town and kept it pretty low key. I did decide to take a blog/technology break and spent time doing things around the house, hanging out with friends and teaching instead. It was a nice mental break.
I’ll share scenes from the weekend later today but I have something more exciting to share with you now. (Warning…lots of golden retriever photos ahead.)
This weekend was my sweet Sullie’s 8th birthday!!!
It is impossible for me to believe that eight years ago I brought home this puppy who has become one of the best things to ever happen to me. And I mean that with every bit of my heart.
I grew up with dogs and have been a dog lover my whole life but I have been blown away every day for eight years by how much I love this face and sweet soul. She has been a constant companion for me through my 20’s (and into my early 30s now!!!) which have been full of big life changes including multiple moves, new cities, jobs, relationships and more. I am so very grateful for her companionship, her warm and welcoming brown eyes and her big personality!
Speaking of personality…I was just having a conversation last night about how she has kept so many of the mannerisms she had as a puppy as she has grown up. For example, her love for sleeping belly up. This was eight years ago…
And this was today…I never let her sleep in the bed but I made a special exception for her birthday. When I opened my eyes this morning, this is what I found. 🙂 She makes me smile countless times every day.

Happy birthday Sullie! Here’s to many more walks with her nose in the monkey grass, rolling on the floor play sessions where she pretends to be ferocious, belly up naps and laughs! She truly is a testament that dogs are our best friends!
Happy Birthday Sullie!
Sweet Sweet Sullie….dogs are the BEST and we are so lucky to have them in our lives! XOXO
Happy birthday to Sullie! I adopted my dog, Dakota, seven years ago, and like Sullie for you, she’s been by my side through thick and thin. I saw something on Pinterest or Facebook or somewhere that said “Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend never had a dog.” So true! I’ll take Dakota over diamonds any day!
This is so sweet. I have a lab that is my best friend too!!
When I faced the terrible decision to put my 9 year old German Shepherd down this past May, my 20s flashed before my eyes and I truly lost a best friend. Dogs are incredible companions and I can’t imagine my life without one — which is why I now sit with a 12 week GSD at my feet! Sullie’s life was meant to intersect and join yours! Wishing you many years ahead!!
Aww happy birthday to that sweet girl!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SULLIE!!!!!!!!
I completely agree that dog’s are our best friends. Happy birthday, Sullie!
Happy Birthday, Sullie! What are the best farmer’s markets in Charlotte? My husband and I are passing through on our way to Hilton Head in late August. We are looking for a fun/ lots of cool things including some crafty stuff if possible more than a “grocery shopping” market.
i like the charlotte regional farmers market. they have a whole craft barn! it shouldn’t be too far out of your way. it’s close to the interstates.
Thank you! We will check it out! 🙂
Happy Birthday, Sullie! I feel the same way about my puppies. It doesn’t matter what is going on, they just make me smile instanty and provide endless entertainment.
I have a male Golden, Cooper, who has also brought me such joy each and every day for the last 6 years. He also loves to sleep belly up. Happy Birthday to Sullie from Cooper.
This is so sweet!! Happy birthday Miss Sullie! My husband and I hope to get a golden retriever puppy this fall and hearing your Sullie stories always make so excited to have a golden of our own! I can’t wait for the puppy cuddles and morning/evening walks!
