I don’t know about you guys but the few days leading up to a trip always seem to be jam packed with errands to run and work to wrap up in addition to packing. Before we left for our retreat I was in full out “go mode.” In addition to the work, errands and packing, I also wanted to leave our house clean since a friend was coming to stay for the week. It felt like I did a week’s worth of work and running around in just two days.
After a day spent teaching yoga, fitting in as many clients as possible, going to the Apple store to repair my iPhone screen, a trip to the bank and much more, I realized that there was no way that I was going to finish packing and get dinner on the table. I waved the white flag and ordered takeout from Viva Chicken.
The best part about it? This bag was delivered right to my doorstep and I didn’t even have to leave the house. I had dinner delivered through Postmates.
Postmates is a new-to-me service that provides on-demand delivery 24/7 of everything from food to personal care items to technology needs to clothing. Postmates utilizes local couriers to bring exactly what you need, right to your doorstep, in a matter of minutes. If you’d like to check it out too, download the Postmates app and use the code peanutbr8 to get $10 off your first delivery! 🙂
I had this delivered while I got to continue packing and getting the house ready and hanging out with my girls.
I like to call this one “Sullie knows exactly what’s going on when the suitcases come out” and “Zoey is in complete oblivion.”
I ordered a whole Peruvian rotisserie chicken with three sides, fried plantains, green beans and cilantro lime rice.
You can order from your laptop or through the app on your mobile device. Once you place your order and request a Postmate, you receive real-time tracking showing you who your Postmate is, where your Postmate is and estimated delivery time.
The bonus of choosing to have the family-sized meal delivered was that I had leftovers to pack for us to eat for lunch on the plane the next day. I shredded the chicken breast and mixed it together with the rice and chopped green beans. We were grateful to have real food on the plane since our flight fell right in the middle of lunch time.
Once we arrived back in Charlotte, I whipped out my phone while were were sitting on the runway and placed another Postmates order through the app, this time for groceries from Trader Joe’s. I took advantage of the custom order feature and typed out my exact order.
My delivery request was accepted and my Postmate knocked out my shopping at Trader Joe’s while we navigated our way through customs, baggage claim and home in an Uber.
Our Postmate arrived exactly when we did. I thought the dogs were going to lose their minds between having the Postmate bring the groceries to the front door and seeing us for the first time in a week.
I can’t even tell you how wonderful and relaxing it was to get home and not have to run out to the store.
I unpacked the groceries and preheated the oven. I ordered everything we needed to make our favorite one-pan roasted dinner along with sweet potatoes, bananas and almond butter for breakfast the next morning. I also couldn’t resist adding in a bag of dog treats for the girls.
While dinner cooked we got completely unpacked and started laundry. We sat down to dinner around 8 and polished off this pan loaded with chicken sausage, brussels sprouts, sweet onion, carrots, parsnips and baby portobello mushrooms.
Postmates made my life so much easier in both prepping to leave and arriving home from this trip. I had never really considered having groceries delivered but it was incredibly convenient, especially after traveling.
This is a service that I can see myself using regularly to help when I get crunched on time or just run out of energy to go out and get everything done. My favorite thing about Postmates is that it’s not just food delivery but they’ll also bring you things from stores like Walgreens, Apple, Best Buy, Lululemon, Office Depot, American Apparel, Starbucks, Whole Foods and more.
Postmates is currently offered in 40 major U.S. cities and delivery offerings vary based on your location.

Have you ever used a delivery service?
If you could have anything delivered right to your doorstep, what would it be?

I have never heard of postmates but it sounds AMAZING. Especially to get Viva Chicken delivered to your house? So convenient. I went twice last week and I’m in love.
I just tried it for the first time when I had it delivered and OH MY YUM! So good!
Viva Chicken=life changing 🙂
wow what a neat service ! almost sounds to good to be true. if my boyfriend knew about something like this he would be all over it. he’s so much more into paying for services than i am. i guess i was raised as if you can do it yourself you should type person but sometimes its good to remember that you time is also worth something and i swear i have less of it than my parents did at my age !
LOVE postmates! We have only used it for ordering lunch/dinner, but the grocery option sounds awesome as well. There are so many restaurant options, it’s always tough to choose where to order from :). It’s been great to try restaurants that we don’t want to drag the kids too on a busy night!
I’ve heard of Postmates, but haven’t tried it yet! What an amazing way to get back from vacation with your groceries already at home 🙂
We have Shipt in Birmingham – they shop at Publix for you and deliver. I have definitely used it a TON for those crazy weeks when I can’t get to the grocery and on days when we’re traveling home. It’s a game changer having your groceries for the week being delivered as you’re unpacking! Eliminates so much of the getting-home-stress.
I miss postmates so much!! I was an active user back when I lived in DC, definitely makes life easier and can be a life saver when you’re sick! Desperately waiting for it to hit Charleston… fingers crossed it’s soon!
This looks great! I would absolutely love to have a good latte delivered to my door.
Do you have a ballpark estimate for delivery fee? I live in Charlotte too 🙂 I’ve been wanting to try postmates but not sure if the surcharge would be insanely high, especially since I live close to uptown and have a lot of options within a short distance.
