Happy new week y’all! Well, no matter what I’m having a baby this week so what week it will be! Hard to wrap my head around…not going to lie.
I’m going in to my doctor’s office for a fetal non-stress test in a couple of hours to make sure that baby boy is doing okay in there. As long as all looks good, he gets until Saturday evening to make is entrance into the world on his own before they induce me. Come on buddy!
My last baby-free weekend was super chill and relaxed. Let’s take a look!
FRIDAY
After my 4 a.m. start to Friday, I kind of lost steam as the day went on. I took the girls for a 3.5 mile walk and then ended up getting a sub for my 4:30p yoga class. I just did not feel like teaching. Instead, I got showered, dressed and went to hang out with Dorie and her daughters for a little bit. It felt nice to just get out of the house.
After I left Dorie’s, I went to get a pedicure and to have the gel polish taken off my nails. I didn’t want to deal with having any nail polish on during delivery, especially of the gel variety since it’s such a pain to take off by yourself at home and I knew I wouldn’t be getting back to the nail salon anytime soon!
Back at home, I heated up some leftover pad thai and we watched the movie Game Night. I also ate a chocolate peanut butter cupcake that I didn’t take a picture of because it was dark. 😉
SATURDAY
After only sleeping 3.5 hours on Thursday night, I was beyond thrilled to get over 9 hours on Friday night. I think I finally got out of bed around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. It was amazing. I made a green smoothie for a light breakfast.
Next stop was the studio where I taught my 11:15 a.m. hot yoga class. It was a lot of fun and good for me to get out and teach. It really boosted my mood/spirits. (Check out that apple watch tan line from all the walking I’ve been doing with the dogs!)
I came home for lunch and ate a bunch of sweet potato chips and a turkey avocado sandwich.
I did some more car reading and research and then went to the Subaru dealership to test drive the Forester and the Outback. I ended up not feeling comfortable in my gut with making a decision so I left. I don’t really think I’ll be driving too terribly much in the first month or two of baby’s life so I think I’m going to hold off for a few more weeks on a car. I’m going to reach out to someone I know who owns a dealership and let him know what I’m looking for and have him keep his eye out for something used that he thinks would be a good fit. I just don’t want to rush this decision, even though my car is acting up again. It’s such a huge purchase and so overwhelming. AHHH!
After car stress, I needed to de-stress. I took the girls for an evening walk on the trails/greenway and it was the perfect way to wind down the day.
I thought I wanted to go out for dinner but it was after 8 when I got home so we ordered takeout sushi instead. We ordered from New Zealand Cafe for the first time and were so impressed. The sushi was so much more affordable than the usual places we frequent and so delicious. Also, how awesome is this to-go packaging!?
Tanner was out running errands at the mall earlier in the day and surprised me with a dozen macarons and some new dishes from Crate & Barrel. It was a nice early Mother’s Day treat.
SUNDAY
I started my day with a greek yogurt bowl and a bunch of computer work. I finally broke from working around 11:30 a.m. and needed to move my body.
I decided to go for a dog-free walk/jog. As you all know, I haven’t done much jogging/running at all in the third trimester but I added a few intervals in yesterday and it felt pretty good! I covered 4 miles all said and done. Probably 2 of those were jogging (slowly…like a turtle).
I refueled with and open-faced turkey sandwich and some pineapple.
Next on the agenda was a trip to Whole Foods where I ended up spending WAY too much money because they had a special over the weekend where all body care products were 25% off. I’ll do a recap later this week with everything that I purchased. I went a little crazy.
I went straight to the studio after leaving Whole Foods to teach my 4 p.m. hot class and then came home.
I have quite the Sunday evening bath ritual going these days and I love it. Best way to end the weekend.
Tanner’s mom took my 4p yoga class and then came over after to hang out with us for a bit for Mother’s Day. I made an appetizer tray with some things I found in the fridge including hummus, a greek yogurt kale dip, goat cheese and pepper jelly and olives.
Whole Foods had wild coho salmon on sale for $8.99/lb so I roasted a pound of salmon that night. I drizzled it with olive oil and then seasoned it with pink himalayan sea salt, Trader Joe’s lemon pepper grinder and Trader Joe’s 21 spice salute seasoning. I cooked it on 400 for about 12-15 minutes until the internal temp was about 120.
Served on a salad with massaged baby kale, radishes, cucumbers, goat cheese, avocado, dried cherries and pistachios. So yum. I love radishes!
The evening ended on the couch with macarons and Shameless. Exciting times! 🙂
How did you celebrate Mother’s Day?
Do you have any favorite Sunday routines or rituals?
Currently…what color are your toes painted? Essie FloweristaI went with . I’m such a sucker for purple and probably choose purple shades more than anything else!
So excited for you and what is to come!!!! Curious how hot the hot yoga you do/teach is? I would like to do that during my next pregnancy but have read it isn’t advised (and I think that’s silly) so would love to hear your experience!
Hot hot! 🙂 BUT my doctor okayed it because I have been teaching and practicing for so long and was already acclimated to spending 10-20 hours a week in the room and can regulate my body heat really well. I always tell people to default to what their doctor recommends and what their body is telling them. It’s been okay for me but that is certainly not the case for everyone!
Happy belated Mother’s Day to the mama-to-be! Can’t wait for the little guy’s arrival this week! Also nice to see Tanner’s name pop up again, hope you two are doing okay xoxo
Thanks so much!
Advice for cars: we had a sedan with our 1st newborn. It was backbreaking lifting the infant car seat in and out of, the seats are low. An SUV or minivan are much higher up and so much easier to lift that infant car seat in and out. Great idea to wait until baby is here and assess your needs then!
Yes, I’m definitely going SUV route given the baby and the dogs! I’m just having the hardest time deciding what’s the best fit that also stays within my budget!
What a relaxing weekend and can’t believe soon you’ll be posting about your baby boy!!
I spent Mother’s Day with my parents, have some small gifts to my Mom which she loved and just hung out. My normal Sunday rituals are gym in the morning, grocery shopping and cooking – then winding down with Netflix or a book!
I know! I can’t believe he’ll be here in a week no matter what. Your Mother’s Day sounds perfect! 🙂
First time mom here – are you not allowed to have nail polish on during delivery?? I’ve never heard that and I always have a pedicure and gel manicure. My doctor has never mentioned this to me and I’m due this summer.
Hey there! First, congrats! Second, I think it’s fine! I had just had gel on my nails for a couple of months now and was ready for a break! 🙂
Thanks! Good to know!
I spent of Mother’s Day (my 7th as a mother, I can hardly believe it!) relaxing and spending time with my sons. In the evening, we went out to dinner with my parents-in-law. My sons made me some very cute gifts at kindergarten, and my husband bought me flowers. 🙂
Ugh, that should say “I spent MOST of Mother’s Day. . . .” 😉
It is a great week to have a birthday!! Mine is Friday ;-)) I get NSTs once a wk from 32wks on due to a genetic clotting disorder (luckily never had any issues!) I never minded them until my middle daughter (who’s only 12.5months older than our 3rd) had to come along for one and in one split second doused her entire body in the belly gel. Such. A. Mess.
Sending you tons of good thoughts this week, can’t wait to see pics of your little guy – so exciting!! And I got induced 3X and it was fabulous (and i had no issues going natural in other aspects despite the pitocin and such.) so don’t worry!! You’ll do great no matter what – the end game will make it ALL worth it!
YES, it’s a GREAT week to have a baby. Come on baby boy! OMG to that gel story…what a mess and a memory you’ll never forget!
I really appreciate the positive encouragement on induction and you sharing that you were able to do it naturally. That is my hope and prayer.
I’ve been thinking about you…I was overdue with child #3, so I decided to shop out of town where no one would know me and ask “have you had that baby yet?!” A kind gentleman commented that I sure looked pregnant, and I started yelling at him. Then I started crying. He patted me and told me it would all be ok…and it was. ? And you’re baby will be here before you know it…but going past your due date is emotionally challenging, and hard to describe. (I was overdue with all 4!) Best of luck to you and baby boy!
Oh my goodness, this is a great story! Thank you for the encouragement!
We have a used Toyota Highlander Hybrid (think 2006) and LOVE it.
The highlander is high on my list…just have to make it work with my budget!
I was trying to get some information on becoming a fitness instructor and stumbled across your post (about Body Pump) and am in LOVE! I’m certified in TKB and am trying to figure out if I should continue studying for my ACE PT cert OR go and get my Group Fitness cert. UGH, so hard to decide… But I’m sure I will figure it out.
Also love that we have the same taste in colors tehee!
Hey Joy and WELCOME! So glad you found me. I love BodyPump and taught it for years. It gave me an amazing foundation to get started in the fitness industry. RE: the PT or group fitness cert, I think both are great but depends on your goals. Do you want to teach group classes or work with one-on-one clients? You can also do both!
Love your posts, Jen! I’m expecting in October and you are such an inspiration taking your self-care and fittness all the way to the end! I noticed you eat sandwiches with deli meat and you posted sushi here also– have you eaten these in moderation during your pregnancy? Or are you in the “safe zone” now that he’s coming any day? Just curious because I know people who microwave their deli meat and eat non-raw sushi but I just want the real deal so have abstained altogether 🙁 LOL
Looking great, hope he arrives soon! 🙂
Thanks Sam and CONGRATS on your pregnancy! I hope you’re feeling well!
I have eaten deli meat for my entire pregnancy. I just make sure that it’s “reputable” and not sketchy. There is listeria in so much now…bagged apples, bagged salads, hummus, etc…I just try to be careful and mindful.
RE: sushi. I ate cooked sushi for most of my pregnancy and have just started eating a little bit of the raw stuff here in the last month.
It’s all about what you’re comfortable with personally. I would never tell another woman what to eat! Go with your gut and what you and your doctor decide on!
THANK YOU for your thoughtful response 🙂
