Well, I just spent my last weekend with a three year old…Finn turns four on Wednesday!
We are making the most of the last few days of three and Finn assures me that even though he is turning four, he’ll still be “Mommy’s baby boy ever.” (Our shared sentiment from the book Love You Forever.)
Here are some photos and stories from our weekend together!
FRIDAY
I had Finn with me all day on Friday minus a quick outing to the gym when one of Dorie’s daughters came over to hang out with him. Our day started at the pediatric dentist (which Finn decidedly did NOT find fun) and ended at Urban Air (which Finn thought was the most fun).
The weather was a bit iffy on Friday afternoon and Finn needed to get some energy out so I decided to take him to Urban Air right when they opened at 4p. It’s an “indoor adventure park” with trampolines, an indoor playground, a ninja warrior course, ball pits and more. I was pleased to find it extremely clean and uncrowded when we arrived. He played for about two hours before it started getting crowded with older kids and teenagers. I coaxed him out of there around 6:30p with a promise of ice cream after dinner. He was one worn out kiddo after 2.5 hours of going full-out and had no problems falling asleep Friday night!
SATURDAY
I loved our Saturday! It was my favorite day of our three days together. The day started with a trip to the Matthews Community Farmers Market.
I got veggies and some strawberries and Finn got a giant chocolate chip cookie.
Our next stop was Home Depot for all the plant things. I got ferns for my porch, herbs, a cherry tomato plant, a citronella plant (to see if it helps at all with mosquitos) and some planters and potting soil. Finn and I had some great conversations in Home Depot. During one he told me that when he turns four, he’s going to start eating tomatoes.
Back at home, we unpacked our farmers market goodies and ate lunch. I was going to take Finn to the Catawaba RiverFest but again, the weather was iffy so decided to stay close to home.
We had a fun afternoon in the back yard! I got Finn’s water table out and he had a blast playing with the hose and the water table. He helped me water plants and clean Benji’s crate.
I got all of my plants potted (except my mint). I bought this raised planter at Home Depot hoping to keep critters and dogs out of my herbs and it’s fantastic! I planted basil, parsley and cilantro. I already have rosemary going from last year and will get my mint in its own pot today. I have room for a couple more herbs and trying to decide what they should be. Looking forward to using them in summer salads and recipes!
By the time we made our way inside early Saturday evening, we were both dirty and ready for a shower and to relax!
SUNDAY
Sunday morning found me baking strawberry muffins with my farmers market strawberries. I used this recipe for inspiration.
We had a brunch play date planned with a friend of mine at 10a. They served fruit, waffles and scrambled eggs and we brought strawberry muffins.
I’ll let this photo speak to how much fun was had by Finn and Chloe! These two have been having play dates together since they were babies and it’s sweet to see them really playing together now!
The remainder of our Sunday involved getting some things done around the house, a bit of food prep for the week ahead and a long evening walk with the pups. Finn was in the best mood for the walk and alternated between running next to Zoey and listening to songs in the stroller.
This giant stick made its way home with us. 🙂
And that’s a peek into our weekend. I’m wrapping up this post and heading out to teach yoga. I hope to get a run in after I teach.
Wishing you all a happy week ahead!
QUESTIONS
Have you planted any herbs or vegetables this season? What are your favorite easy to grow veggies?
Would LOVE your recommendations for fun outdoor toys. That’s the direction I’m going for Finn’s birthday. Thinking a big saucer swing, soccer goal and more water toys.
How was your weekend? What did you do?
Wow – Finn is looking so big all of a sudden!! 🙂 he is adorable, Jen!
So big, so sweet and so handsome! Thank you!
My daughter turns 6 on Wednesday 🙂 She’s really into Barbie so that’s mostly what she is getting this year.
We love outside play at our house too. Some ideas: sandbox, stomp rocket, baseball glove and ball, pop-up tent, big trucks, sprinkler mat, and bubble blower.
I ordered the stomp rocket and sprinkler mat! Thanks for those ideas. Considering a sandbox too. Does it make a mess in the yard or can you keep it pretty contained?
Happy birthday to your daughter!
Oh great – I hope he likes them! Our sand stays contained. My husband built it so it’s taller than a lot of store-bought ones and we don’t have it filled up all the way. You can also get a sandbox with a lid for when it’s not being used to keep sand from blowing out and critters getting into it. Happy Birthday Finn!
He really is such a cutie-patootie! Sounds like a great weekend!
Thank you Annette! Love my weekends with him! 🙂
I was at Home Depot on Saturday, too! For herbs this year we planted basil, pineapple mint, and scallions. I have rosemary, thyme, and oregano that came back from last year, too!
Tis the season for Home Depot weekends! Scallions are a great idea. Might try that!
That sounds like a wonderful weekend! Happy early birthday to Finn! I can’t believe he’s already 4. I’ve been reading your blog since before you were pregnant, and it seems like just yesterday I was reading your blog posts when you were pregnant. He is such a cutie and it’s so wonderful to see how much joy he brings you. I hope he has the best birthday!
Aw, thanks for following along Megan! Crazy how fast it all goes by. He’s been the biggest blessing in my life!
My kids are the same age as Finn and scooters are a huge hit for them! Not sure if Finn has one already. They’re also obsessed with their sandbox.
Finn does have a scooter – that’s what I got him last year for his birthday. He’s just not that into it. He also doesn’t care much for his balance bike or bike with training wheels. Hope he gets there one day! Sandbox…he would love that. Great idea!
I know Finn’s birthday has already come and gone but have you looked into the mud kitchens? I bet he would love that!
