I love music and one of my favorite things about teaching yoga is being able to put together playlists for my classes. I’m pretty crazy about it and spend waaaayyy too much time looking for new songs and artists. Also, I teach so many classes every week that I get sick of my music so I’m constantly updating my playlists.
I have received a few requests lately for playlists so I thought that tonight I would put together a new one for you with songs that I have been loving for my yoga classes and to get me through my own workouts.
Let me know what you think. And I am always taking suggestions for new music to add for my yoga playlists. I play a mix of slow and upbeat…definitely not traditional yoga music.
I’ll do another playlist soon with “normal” songs. Because trust me, I don’t listen to this kind of stuff when I’m in the car or hanging around the house. ๐
Today has been busy…I taught four yoga classes (first one at 6:30 a.m. and last one at 7:15 p.m.!) and had a big meeting this afternoon.
I only took one food photo today but it was a good one. Lunch was an open faced veggie burger on Great Harvest Whole Grain Goodness with mashed avocado, hummus, spinach and white cheddar. Apples and carrots on the side.
Can you believe it’s February 1? Where did January go!? I’m definitely already starting to see a little slide in gym/yoga goers. Don’t become one of those! ๐
My favorite album for doing yoga is The Shepherd’s Dog by Iron & Wine…it’s got ups and downs as far as tempo and really lends itself towards ebb and flow…and the last song is the perfect, peaceful finishing song.
i love iron and wine but i don’t have this album. i will check it out! i play “fever dream” often during savasana.
How lame am I? I have not heard one song on that list! i’m going to check them out though. Good post.
yay – glad i could introduce you to some new stuff!
Jen do you use Spotify? I’ve found it’s so much easier to look for great music among my friends & genre there. Also making playlists & sharing them there is a breeze. Thank you for sharing yours! Can’t wait to listen to a few tracks.
i don’t but i’ve heard so much about it. i need to sign up for an account!
awesome playlist – especially track 4! my cousin is in the band parachute and I love, love, LOVE when other people have stumbled upon them and enjoy them as much as I do! Also – rihanna with we found love, duh:) i swear that song could get me pumped up to do just about anything!
i’m loving that song right now! i really like this mix of “we found love” – definitely check it out!
I love Parachute and loved hearing them at the NC Music Factory last summer! So neat your cousin is the in the Band!
Jen what brand veggie burger is that?
trader joe’s – my fave!
Loving the inclusion of Cracks and I Remember. Never thought to pair either one with yoga, but I can definitely see how it works! ๐
love this song so much! it’s a staple for running, yoga, you name it! ๐
I love that you sway away from traditional yoga music. I love that stuff, but think it is really cool to try something different. I’ll have to find a way to head down into the city for one of your classes one of these days! Thanks again for sharing.
it’s different but i find that most of my students really like the more modern and upbeat playlist…especially since i teach a pretty aggressive flow. would love to see you in class sometime if you ever want to make the trip! ๐
I’m really into Parachute right now too, and have Kiss Me Slowly on repeat most days. Great song ๐
such a good song! i can’t even tell you how many times i’ve played it over the last couple of weeks.
I took a class at a ‘hippie’ studio here and the whole class was like 1960s and 1970s songs like Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin. If you like older music it was a great mix for a hot, powerful flow!
Oh they also had some Beatles songs in there too!
oh wow – that’s fun!
That veggie burger looks awesome. Did you make that from scratch or was a frozen prepackaged one?
it’s trader joe’s – their veggie burgers are my favorite!
It was so good to see you yesterday!!! I love the playlists, please keep sharing! I am really bad at finding music on my own so I love, love, love getting recommendations from other people. I need to ask Tanner about his playlists. Do you know of any good Adele remixes?
you too, jessie! i’ll message you a site where you can get some adele remixes! ๐
I have a bunch of those songs on my shuffle for running!! Love Foster the People…
This is probably a little before your time — but i took a class the other day and there was the song “Ode to My Family” by the Cranberries. The music is really beautiful and the way the song builds it is perfect for a vinyasa class!
Off to take a class myself today — a new studio opened in my town and classes are free all week!
i love the cranberries…i will definitely go back and listen to that song. enjoy your practice – so awesome that they’re doing free classes!
I love your food pictures! You have such great ideas for easy, healthy and tasty and they just look good. I need to start stealing some of these…
thank you so much! ๐
Your lunch looked so good, I went out and bought the groceries to make it for my dinner tonight! Can’t wait…I’m baking some sweet potato fries to have with it!
glad i could give you a little inspiration! hope you enjoyed your dinner. i love sweet potato fries!
Hey Jen!
I LOVE new playlists! Thanks for posting.
Best Wishes!
one of my current favorite songs is “we are young” by tonight–i run to it all the time. i love hearing about other people’s music.
will check it out. thanks so much for the suggestion!
I didn’t get a chance to say hello after class, but wanted to thank you for a great BP tonight…however, my arms are a little mad right now ๐
We Found Love…best workout song for me at the moment!
I love Rebellion (Lies), Arcade Fire and Lose Yourself (Eminem).
i love lose yourself too! one of the best “pump up” songs. i also love arcade fire!
