Thank you for being nice and understanding readers regarding my grammar issues the other night. ๐
I think the biggest news of the day is that I continued my no running streak. I have not run in 10 days. TEN DAYS! I planned on running this evening but when Sarah g-chatted me asking if I was interested in yoga tonight I caved. I honestly do miss running but it’s hard to motivate myself to run in the dark cold after working late (clearly, I need to be reminded of my Cold Weather Running post!) and I can’t run on the weekends because I’ve been in teacher training.
Honestly, I’m not stressing about it though because I made the decision to focus on yoga and pursue teacher training and I feel great right now. There will be plenty of time to ramp up the running again this spring after training is over with the added bonus of longer days and pleasant temperatures. Do any of you ever take breaks from running? How do you deal with it?
Moving along. Lunch time.
Veggie burger salad and gorgonzola herb focaccia.
Baby spinach, mixed baby greens, carrots, avocado, dried cranberries, goat cheese and a quick vinaigrette made with honey, balsamic and olive oil. Topped with a Trader Joe’s veggie burger.
I had an apple, almonds and hot tea at work this afternoon as a snack. I left work on time (yay) and headed to Yoga One tonight to meet Sarah for a 90 minute hot vinyasa class. It was great – I enjoy Yoga One, the classes are extra hot and sweaty.
Dinner tonight was on my own because Brandon was out. No husband = no meat.
Red quinoa with onions, garlic, garbanzo beans, kalamata olives and sundried tomatoes. Served on a bed of spinach and topped with feta and plain Greek yogurt. It’s been far too long since I’ve had a quinoa bowl for dinner. Yum!
And I leave you with another yoga video. I have been working really hard on my backbend series in ashtanga. This video was taken Tuesday morning. It’s handstand to backbend to standing. This comes before the tick tock you saw last week. Once I get the series flowing a little better, I’ll post a longer video with the whole thing.
that backbend series looks amazing! i’m trying my first hot yoga class this weekend at the new studio in fort mill. maybe one day i’ll be doing these too!?
Oh wow, that was amazing! did you ever do gymnastics when you were younger?
I haven’t run in a few weeks. I REALLY need to get myself back into it but all of this snow is not helping.
I currently have an injury which has prevented me from running since the beginning of December. I’m hopeful about resuming my training at the beginning of February though — for now, I deal with it by focusing on upper body strength training + cardio exercises which don’t have an impact on my injury.
About your backbend, there’s only one thing I can say: WOW!
Amazing! Reminds me of my cheerleading days ๐
SHAZAAAANggg that is a crazy backbend.. SO JEALOUS!
I definitely have to take breaks from running, but it is usually because I push myself too hard and end up having knee or ankle pains which force me to take a break. I do the elliptical to keep up my endurance (and sanity) while I let my body heal. And I always have to remind myself that I have been a long distance runner for almost 8 years now, so taking a few weeks off won’t be a game-changer ๐
So glad to hear that your yoga training is going well! Great handstand to backbend!
Totally inspired and jealous! ๐ Yoga is my ‘to do” in 2011…

I’ve never had red quinoa. I’ll have to look out for it.
I just bought some for the first time. I got it at Trader Joe’s. Apparently the nutritional makeup is pretty similar but red quinoa is a little earthier tasting.
Omg, so amazing Jen! You’re so talented. This makes me wonder if my BFF- who almost went to the Olympics as a gymnast- would be automatically good at yoga.
You are too sweet. I have been working super, super hard on my backbend series for the last few months.
I am sure that your friend would have a naturally excel at yoga due to her flexibility and body awareness!
Jen, Your yoga is so impressive… and i like that veggie burger salad you posted!
Wow! U are amazing! Oh, and your food looks amazing too. The longest I went without running is prob like 2weeks due to a pulled groin. I was miserably grumpy!!!
