I really debated on how to best blog about our NYC trip. I was torn between day-by-day recaps v. fitness recaps v. food recaps v. detailed reviews of places, etc.
Here’s where I landed…I’m going to first blog daily recaps so if anyone wants to use our itinerary as inspiration, you’ll have an easy resource. After I post the dailys, I’ll blog more in depth about a few more classes, restaurants, bakeries, etc. that we really loved and enjoyed. Finally, I’ll write a huge post about everything that was recommended to me when it comes to all things NYC. Hopefully, between all of these posts you’ll find a pretty exhaustive guide to NYC for the fitness, foodie and sweets loving person! ๐
So let’s get started! Here’s day one of our three day NYC extravaganza!
We booked an 8 a.m. flight out of Charlotte so that we could enjoy the whole day in the city.
We arrived in New York City around 10 a.m. and took an Uber from LGA to SoHo. It took about an hour in traffic and cost $50.
We were so lucky to stay with my friend’s brother in a three-bedroom apartment that he’s subletting in SoHo. It’s owned by NYU and unbelievably spacious. We enjoyed this amazing view for the weekend. That’s the Empire State Building front and center.
We got changed and took the subway uptown to Madison Square Park to The Clocktower on Madison Avenue in The New York EDITION Hotel to meet the Premier Protein PR team for lunch.
Lunch was amazing as was the conversation. It is so great to meet people in person versus email communication. I would say that 90% of the people I work with are based in NYC and I need to make more of an effort to get up there regularly!
I’ll be sharing more on The Clocktower soon!
After lunch we took the subway downtown and walked to 1 World Trade Center.
We had plans to meet with my friend Clara who is the Social Media Manager for SELF Magazine.
Clara and I connected years ago via blogging and social and it was so wonderful to finally meet her in person. She gave us a tour of the SELF offices and then we did a quick SnapChat and Instagram promo for my book. I was so super excited to be featured on SELF’s social channels! ๐
It was really cool to get to see the inside of 1 World Trade Center.
It’s the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
SELF has a whole floor so we enjoyed 360 degree views of everything from the Statue of Liberty to the 9/11 Memorial to the Brooklyn Bridge to the East River. It was awesome.
Rather than subway back to SoHo we decided on a 1.5 mile walk back to the apartment after our meeting. We took Broadway the whole way and it was pretty crazy on a Friday evening.
Clara was able to get us a comp class at Y7 Yoga so we took a late flow class. It was just what we needed after a long day of travel and walking. More to come on Y7!
We arrived back at the apartment starving around 8:15 p.m. and Virginia’s brother had dinner ready for us! We had a salad and crepes. One of the crepes was stuffed with spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese and the other with steak and mushrooms. They were amazing!
After dinner we walked down to Molly’s Cupcakes on the recommendation of the Premier Protein team.
We brought a box back to the apartment to share and then called it a night. It was a full first day in NYC but stay tuned…because it only gets better from here! ๐
What a great weekend! Can’t wait to see more!
So fun!! Great pics!! The cupcakes look Delicious!!!
Looks like an excellent first day! Aren’t Molly’s Cupcakes the best?! I didn’t know they had a location in NYC too. Their Chicago bakery is by far my favorite place to go for a special dessert ๐
They were amazing! The Premier Protein team knew what they were talking about!
Wow! What a full day! Sounds like so much fun. Your dinner made me realize that I need to step out of the box with crepes more. I always make them sweet for breakfast but I think a savory version could be so good! Anything with goat cheese is good in my book.
They were delicious! Definitely worth a try.
Of course I think the cupcakes look fab :)The chocolate frosted one would be my favorite on the bottom left. Can’t wait hear more about your trip here!
It was chocolate peanut butter and it was to die for!
I’m still stuck that your friend’s brother has a three-bedroom apartment. WOW! I loved Y7. Wish I had taken more classes there. I used Broadway to get everywhere this summer, it was so convenient!
We loved Y7! It was a little different from what we’re used to, so it was a fun change of pace.
What a great start to the trip! SO cool that you got featured on SELF social media! Congrats!
Thanks! I’m lucky to have a friend who could do that for me!
What a fun trip! From your instagram pics, it seems like you had a great time! I can’t wait for the rest of the posts. I’ve only been to New York once, but live much closer now and I’m hoping to get a long weekend trip in early this Fall.
It was pretty perfect! I think New York in the fall would be incredible.
So much to do, so much to see! Even though I live an hour away and have been countless times, it’s never been to “sight-see” I’ve always gone in for work or performances! There’s still so much I need to see there!
There really is so much to do and see! We could have been kept busy for months with everyone’s recommendations.
Excited to hear more about your trip! Those cupcakes looks heavenly!
what a fun day! excited to hear more. nyc in the summer is just the best.
I loved going in the summer since I’d only ever been when it’s freezing cold!
What great photos. I’d love to visit NYC again someday.
Thanks! I’m definitely planning a return trip in the not too distant future!
