I have been feeling a little blah and unchallenged with my workouts lately so this morning I decided to finally make my way back to CrossFit. I can’t remember the last time I did a WOD. I have had the intention to go to class but just haven’t been able to fit it into my schedule (funny since all I have to do is step out of my office to take class ;)) so I have just been doing my own strength workouts.
This was a good welcome back WOD since there were no heavy barbell movements (and no burpees!). I finished in 16:14. I have to tell you though…I HATE ROWING.
It is 100% for sure my least favorite form of cardio. I would rather run, spin, elliptical, run stairs…anything! I can’t say that it’s not effective though – after 500 meters (about 2-2:30 minutes) on the rower I am usually already breathing heavy and my legs start screaming at me. I frequently make my PT clients row for cardio/warm-up. I swear that the rowing in today’s WOD made my quads burn more than 100 squats. During the last 500 meters I almost gave up at 320 but somehow pushed through to the end. I like the mental game that CrossFit plays with me.
What is your least favorite form of cardio?
I took a yoga class after CrossFit. It felt wonderful to yoga after all the squats and pushups. I came home after class and made a brunch quesadilla. Scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, spinach, cheddar and avocado with sour cream and salsa. Pineapple on the side.
I taught yoga, trained a client and ran errands this afternoon. I am really trying to cut back on excess spending so I made dinner at home. I sauteed tofu, bok choy and stirfry veggies with soy sauce, vegetable stock and Trader Joe’s Thai Red Curry Simmer Sauce and served it over brown rice. As good as take out!
I am going to post the 26 random acts teams and instructions tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Happy Saturday night!
I love rowing!! It’s my best besides running. What is “HR”? We have “NS” for New Standard, but not sure what HR is. I want to do this WOD at my box! Sounds great!!
hand release pushups…lowering all the way down to the ground and lifting your hands from the floor.
I hate rowing too!! I am so bad at it and still feel like I don’t have proper form. I also really dislike the stationary bike. That quesadilla looks incredible, may have to make one for breakfast tomorrow!
My least favorite form of cardio is the stationary bike. I tried it once for cross training and lasted about 10 minutes before I got so bored I decided it wasn’t worth my time.
Also, I just wanted to say – my hometown is in Georgia, and I’ve spent the last few weeks at home on winter break from college. I convinced my mom to take me on a day trip to Asheville after reading so much about it on your blog. We went to Early Girl Eatery for brunch, Chai Pani for dinner, and I even got a piece of the carrot cake from French Broad Chocolate Lounge! (Although, my favorite part of the trip was Dobra Tea. I’m a huge tea fan, and this place was my dream come true.) It was a really fun day – thanks for providing the inspiration for it! I’m definitely going to try to go again next time I’m home.
I also HATE rowing. My box used to post the WOD online at midnight and if there was rowing on the agenda, there was a good chance I would be skipping out. Needless to say, I haven’t improved much.
I need to get tortillas, especially after that delicious looking brunch quesadilla….I always am just scared to commit to a whole pack.
Hi Sierra! Just noticed your comment about tortillas and thought I’d offer a suggestion! I live alone and encounter the same sort of problems with buying a whole pack of something. I’ve found that Flat-Out wraps are delicious, versatile, and best of all, freeze/thaw really well, so I never have to worry about the wraps going bad before I can eat them all. I’ve seen them at quite a few different grocery stores, so hopefully they can be found at a store near you. Hope this helps!
Oh man rowing is my nemesis too! One of our WODs this week included a 2000m row for time. I was ready to die and never wanted to see the rower again. Ever! Nice job on your WOD!
I’m pretty impartial when it comes to cardio–I’ll swim, bike, or run–and I don’t know if I’d like rowing. Can you believe I’ve never done it before? My avoidance definitely stems from not knowing how to do it (in terms of correct form), but I’d be game to try it sometime. Oh, and just reading the body-weight WOD exercises is making me exhausted–I’m so bad at pushups! Happy Sunday! 🙂
I’m sad to see how many people dislike the stationary bike! After I discovered Les Mills RPM, my whole perspective on stationary bikes (and cardio in general!) changed. It’s probably my all-time favorite workout class…I never knew that feeling like you’re going to die could be so fun! 😉
Personally, I’ve never been a fan of the elliptical. When I used to run, I never hated the treadmill *too* much (although I always preferred running outside), but the elliptical always seemed sooooo boring.
I think I’ve said this before, but your breakfast quesadilla looks amazing. I make both scrambled eggs and quesadillas all the time, so I don’t know why I have yet to combine the two!
Rowing is tough – what I don’t enjoy about it is if you are pushing yourself and are about to pass out, you can’t take a break, so it is always a challenge. I did a WOD last week that consisted of (4) 750 m rows. Yuck.
I was on the rowing team all 4 years in college. The erg has a special place in my heart 🙂
wow! im impressed. i rowed competitively for 9 years and the erg does NOT have a special place in my heart!! so glad to be done with that machine
Well….i was the Cox :~p
hahahha i knew there had to be something!
I can’t stand the stair climber… It is just so boring and hard too! I have been doing a lot of body pump lately- I am taking the instructor training next weekend! Working on memorizing my tracks- lunges and biceps!
I’ve never rowed before but I must say I hate spinning. My lady parts.. Autsj!
I’ve never rowed before! Your dinner bowl looks better than takeout!
I’ve also never tried rowing. I’ve always been intimidated – and I don’t want to look like a fool trying to figure it out. It sounds like it’s a great workout, so I’ll put my reservations aside and give it a try!
HATE the stair climber—just keep climbing and climbing to nowhere.
I have never rowed, but it seems like a tough workout. My least favorite cardio is spinning. It’s so challenging and such a great workout, but I just can’t stand it.
YEAH to no burpees in a workout! Love that feeling! I actually like rowing and haven’t done it in a long time though. Since I don’t have a gym membership I’ve been just doing workouts at home, yoga, and running. I feel like I need a change up though. Spinning may be my least favorite, because it seriously KICKS my butt.
I looove rowing! I get excited when a WOD contains it. I hate the elliptical. I can’t spend more than 20 mins on it before I’m bored. BUT, my least favorite exercise ever is the dreaded burpee.
Cardio wise, I HATE the stationary bike. The only way I can stand it is if I am doing high intensity intervals on it…otherwise I just get so bored and hate sitting there. So I pretty much just stick to the elliptical, stair master (favorite), and sometimes the treadmill, although I highly prefer running outdoors.
i think my least favorite form of cardio recently is treadmill running. i used it as a cardio break during my weight circuit on saturday and i was so fixated on the time, so boring!
I’ve never really done rowing, but I love trying new things and taking on new challenges. So, the next time I’m at a gym with a rowing machine, I think I might just hop on and give it a go. In terms of my least favorite form of cardio – pretty much anything over 30 minutes unless it’s a fun class or outdoor activity of some sort. I love to do shorter, more intense cardio blasts. They keep boredom at bay and seem to fly by. 🙂
I enjoyed rowing for the challenge when I began the crossfit classes at my job. I quickly learned to dislike it when it got so hot outdoors that the rower became the majority move for cardio days. Though I still think the elliptical tops my list of least favorite cardio.
