Hi and happy Sunday! I hope it’s been a great weekend for everyone.
I attended two very fun holiday parties last night. The first was our staff party for Metro where this photo was taken. It’s the “Jen’s.” There are FOUR Jen’s that work for Metro…and we only have 30ish employees. This has pretty much been the story of my life. I think there were six of us in my sorority in college and I can’t even begin to list how many come to the yoga studio. According to Wikipedia, “Jennifer was the single most popular name for newborn American girls every single year from 1970 to 1984, inclusive.” Apparently, since 2009 it has dropped out of the top 100. The trend is coming to an end. 🙂
How many Jen readers do I have!?
I taught my Sunday 9:15 “yoga church” class at Y2 this morning. My day was made when one of my regular students (who I actually went through teacher training with) approached me after class and told me that it had become not only her favorite class of the week but one of her favorite hours of the week. I have been teaching this class since I started teaching yoga three years ago. It’s so special to me and I’m happy it’s special to my students too.
I went to Nolen Kitchen again for brunch because it was so good last week. I ordered a virgin bloody mary and coffee.
And loved their scone of the day, oatmeal raisin.
I wasn’t in the mood for brunch food so I got a salad instead. Chopped cobb with romaine, tomatoes, blue cheese, chickpeas, bacon and avocado. I did a mix of basil buttermilk and balsamic dressing.
I just took this cute thing for a walk and started a new audio book, Me Before You, which Joy The Baker claims to be a “break your own heart” kind of book. Anyone read it?
Off to yoga to warm up from a brisk walk. Have a lovely evening!
Let us know what you think of the book.. I have been looking for some new recs! One day I hope to be in Charlotte on a Sunday and take your “yoga church” class. It sounds like the perfect way to start/end a week!
I’m a Jen! And if I was a smart one, I’d get off my butt and do yoga at least once or twice a week. I’m a runner who CrossFits and might be a little guilty of neglecting to stretch properly. 🙂
My older sister is a Jennifer- named after Ali
McGraws character in “Love Story”. Classic name in my book 🙂
Wow 4 Jens that has got to cause some confusion! 🙂 I agree let us know about the audio book! Would love to hear what you think about it.
Love your blog Jen! It was because of you that I finally tried yoga. I’m two years into it and loving it! I read the book last month. It was a great read. But have tissues handy. It was an absolute tear jerker! Enjoy!!
I read that book and actually didn’t cry at all at the end.
Oh you’ll have to let us know how the book is, because I am always looking for new reads! Enjoy your evening and have a beautiful evening and a great start to the new week!
I’m a Jen! 🙂
My name is one of the most popular current baby names, but I don’t know a lot more Emily’s my age. My parents were ahead of the curve (or really, my dad is just a big Emily Dickinson fan).
Reading this post reminds me that I need more yoga and fiction in my life!
Oh man I loved that book — total tearjerker!
Me Before You = fantastic book. I was definitely in tears at the end, but it is SO well written and very much worth the read.
Yes, Jen is a popular name. I have a few friends named Jen/Jenn and several other blog friends/acquaintances.
Also, I love your infinity scarf! Where is it from?
I just got that book from the library! I hope it’s a page turner!!
Great book.
From a Jen
Happy Sunday!!! Looks like an amazing holiday weekend!!! 🙂
JENNY here — just Jenny, not Jennifer. It gets confusing b/c everyone just assumes it’s Jennifer which is not on my birth certificate. My family calls me Jens 😉 Proudly born in 1983…
I wonder if Jen is falling out of popularity because all the Jens of 1970-84 are having children and don’t want to name their own daughters jen? Makes sense it would cycle that way 🙂
I’m a Jenny, but my real name is Jenell not Jennifer!
I’m a Jen!
I could use a bloody mary right about now…not so virgin though 🙂 I like mine spicy!!
That’s crazy about the Jens! In high school we had 5 Heathers in my class, but that was out of 300 kids! I need to check out that book! Always in the mood for a good read 🙂
Another Jennifer here, born in 1980! 🙂 My grade school class (~85 people) had at least five Jennifers. We were all Jennifer Lynn or Jennifer Marie.
I go by Jenny, and as an adult, I’ve found that most Jennifers go by Jen. I don’t meet many Jennys nowadays. I wonder if the Forrest Gump movie had anything to do with that? 🙂 (“Jen-nay” was an unavoidable nickname for me throughout high school.)
Me Before You was a good read… not my favorite but a sweet story.
I loved that book!
That book is SO GOOD. It is definitely in the top 5 list of books I’ve read this year! LOL about the name Jen, I have several friends named Jen too!
Not a Jen, but I read Me Before You and it was really good. Emotional and thought provoking. I usually forget about books after reading them, but this one stayed with me.
