It’s been one of those days…but I kind of just have to laugh about it. It culminated with my iPod dying 10 minutes before my yoga class started this evening and Brandon throwing his back out at his bowling league. Yes, you read that right. My husband is in a bowling league and he threw his back out bowling. Really?
I tried to take a picture of Brandon in his compromised state but he vetoed that going on the blog so you get sad Sullie instead. I do feel bad for Brandon though. He is in a lot of pain. I’m going to stay home with him tomorrow and get him to the doctor. I did hurt my back in yoga teacher training earlier this year but I’ve never totally “thrown my back out” so I can’t even relate to the amount of pain he seems to be in. It’s hard because I can’t really do anything to help.
The iPod situation is annoying because they just don’t last. This iPod is less than a year old! Ugh! I have to replace it ASAP because I am constantly using it for my classes.
So there were some bumps in the road but overall it was an awesome day. I started my day bright and early at Flex + Fit to teach a Buff Yoga (yoga with weights) class. This is only my second week teaching this class format but I’m having SO much fun with it!
Breakfast when I got to work was a slice of Emily’s Blueberry Greek Yogurt Banana Bread and a Cherry Fage Greek yogurt.
I had a meeting at 1:30 this afternoon but I wasn’t really hungry before. I decided to wait until after to have lunch. Big mistake. Our meeting went until almost 4 and I ended up having a seriously late lunch. I was famished!
It was the quintessential summer lunch. A tomato sandwich with avocado, spinach and havarti on whole wheat and a juicy, sweet peach. Yum!
I taught a hot vinyasa class at Y2 this evening. Luckily, I knew that my teacher was planning on attending my class tonight so I was able to send an “SOS I have no music!” message and use his. It was kind of fun to teach to someone else’s playlist. It was like a little surprise every time the next song came on. The highlight was back-to-back Katy Perry and Kesha. 😉
I rushed home from class to get Brandon in the house and comfortable. After I got him set up in a chair in the living room, I whipped up some dinner.
When desperate, make a quinoa bowl! I sauteed onions and garlic and then added 1/2 cup quinoa, 1 cup of water and some fresh diced tomatoes. Covered and simmered for 15ish minutes. Served on a bed of spinach and topped with leftover grilled eggplant and zucchini from last night’s dinner along with a dollop of Greek yogurt and parmesan.
My grandmother swears that bad things come in threes…I’m praying that I don’t get the third tomorrow! 😉
Do you believe in “bad things come in threes.” I have to admit that I do! When it rains, it pours!
I don’t ever say that i dont believe in something cause I’m afraid I’ll b proved wrong just for saying it.
Sorry to hear about your bad day! FYI, a guy at the apple store told me that the iPods have a special kind of battery and if you should wait to charge them until the battery life is almost gone. Better luck with your next one!
Jenn why don’t you just use your iPhone as your iPod? Just a thought.
Yes, the everything comes in three’s thing is an old-wives tale that is true!!
Poor Brandon! I have a lot of back problems related to scoliosis so I can really sympathise. *hugs* to him and hope it’s not too serious!
If it’s not too personal a question then I was wondering if you post everything you eat in a day, or just snippets? I only ask because I’m still trying to normalise my own eating, and look up to you a lot in terms of fitness and body composition…I must admit I’d be quite hungry on three meals and no snacks though!
Thank you 🙂
xxx
I don’t *believe* in the legend of bad things coming in three’s…but I’ll be damned if 99% of the time is doesn’t always happen!
That tomato sandwich looks so lucious!
I hope Brandon feels better! Brad often vetoes photos of him on the blog too (silly boys). I’ve witnessed the bad things come in threes thing before too, but I hope you’re immune to this old wives tale.
Jeff told me about Brandon! I hope he’s OK. I’ve done that to my back before and it’s so painful 🙁
I try not to believe the “bad things come in threes” saying. Hoping you have a much better day!
my boyfriend totally used to be in a bowling league!! he never threw his back out, but he hurt his bicep once. How does that even happen? such a bummer about Brandon, I hope he is okay and back in action soon!!
I think bad things definitely come in threes, but let’s just hope that the third is not THAT bad, or that is doesn’t come at all!
My mom always says it happens in threes and I definitely agree because it ALWAYS does!!
Hope your hub feels better soon 🙂
Jen- how exactly does yoga with weights work? I’ve heard of “active” yoga, but never anything like that! Hope your husband feels better soon!
Prayers for Brandon & you! That sounds so frustrating!! Sullie looks so sad, aww. Your breakfast looks so yummy – I have been totally craving a muffin lately. I was planning on making a tomato/avocado sandwich today, too ;)!
I’m not sure about the threes thing, but I can definitely relate to “when it rains, it pours.” Hope Brandon’s back heals quickly.
On a side note, Sullie’s toe hair cracks me up! Our golden has the same hair, and when it gets crazy, we call him the Grinch.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed that bad things only come in twos 🙂
Sending healing thoughts Brandon’s way!! So sorry to hear that. I was actually in Charlotte Mon-Wed and really wanted to come to one of your Body Pump classes…alas, you don’t teach one that fit in w/ the times I was there. Maybe next time! Thanks again for the honor of guest-posting! It was fun to write. Hope to see y’all before the summer winds down ~
I think yoga without music is a welcome change from time to time. I unexpectedly had to sub for a class when the instructor didn’t show up (I just happen to be there to take the class). But obviously I was completely unprepared with no sequence and no music. In another type of class – spin, kickboxing, etc. – this might have doomed me. But honestly, I got so many compliments on the class afterwards and most said they really enjoyed not having music. Leading the class that way made it easier to stay in the moment and I loved being able to hear everyone’s ujjayi breathing. I’m not saying I want to teach yoga every time without music, but I now know not to panic if I forget my iPod or if it stops working right before class.
Hope your husband’s back is feeling better soon! Back pain is the worst. 🙁
I hope Brandon feels better soon – back injuries are never fun! Mater sandwich looks delicious and if cutie pie Sullie goes missing….he’s at my house 🙂
Poor Brandon. Doing things like that makes me feel so old. I miss being a kid–muscles were never sore, injuries healed at lightening speed, and I didn’t even know backs could hurt. 😉
Haha yes, I’ve heard they come in 3’s. What kind of iPod did you have? They should always last longer than a year, no matter how much you use it. Do you have an Apple store near you? They are really good about stuff like that.
Back injuries suck 🙁 And yes, I agree, when it rains it pours! Hope some sunshine heads your way soon!
so sorry for your stinky day 🙁 Tomorrow will be fabulous, that is the “third”. Also for the Ipod, I use (and break) mine incessantly. Every single time it has broken I have taken it to the Apple Store in Southpark and they have either fixed it or replaced it. I am not kidding… 4 times. You just have to make an appt. Totally worth it.
I hope Brandon feels ok! I’ve thrown out my back before and have had to sleep on the floor. Not fun. I went to a chiropractor when the pain was getting worse and the alignments definitely made it better. I still have a bit of a subluxated disc but I think exercising has made my back stronger.
Now weights with yoga, THAT is the kind of workout I could into. 🙂
ugh my ipod keeps breaking too! if it is less than a year old then it is under warranty and they should be able to replace it if you send it in the mail or go to your nearest store
