Happy weekend! We are enjoying a cozy and lazy Sunday morning after staying up past our bedtimes to watch Georgia eke out an ugly win over Kentucky. Let’s hope we’ve gotten that out of our system because we have some hard opponents ahead of us and all on the road – Alabama, Texas and Tennessee!
I’ve fully converted Finn into a mini Dawg fan so I let him stay up until halftime which meant it was 10p before he fell asleep. I watched until the last second of the clock expired because it was THAT CLOSE! My heart was seriously thumping in my chest for the last few minutes of that game and my Oura ring registered “high stress” around 11p last night haha.
Homemade cinnamon rolls are making all right in our world this morning. Finn loves cinnamon rolls so I thought it would be a fun weekend activity to show him how to make them from scratch. I used a really popular recipe and while any homemade cinnamon roll is a good one – these left a little to be desired in the fluffiness department. I compare all things I bake to my dad’s version. 🙂 He has already sent me his cinnamon roll recipe this morning after I delivered my report on the ones I made so I’ll try again soon!
Alrighty, I have a random mix of favorite things from late to share in the rest of this post.
FALL LACROSSE
Finn started lacrosse last spring and really liked it! He did a camp this summer and is now enrolled in a fall clinic that meets on Saturdays. We’re trying not to over-enroll him in activities as he adjusts to the new kindergarten rhythm and schedule so this is the only thing he’s doing for now. We’ll probably do more lacrosse and/or soccer in the spring. I’ve also been thinking about some kind of martial arts class. He did ninja warrior gymnastics last year and had fun with that. Something like taekwondo sounds like something he’d enjoy.
LITTLE SPOON LUNCHERS
The team at Little Spoon generously sent us a selection of their Lunchers to try out. These were great to have on hand as an easy lunch option as we transitioned into kindergarten and a new school year.
Here’s what we sampled:
- Brunch lunch – pitaya smoothie bowl with banana, strawberries, chia seeds and purple sweet potato, hemp heart and flaxseed granola, chicken maple sausage, zucchini muffin. 13 grams of protein in this lunch!
- Chicken dunkers – chicken nuggets made with antibiotic-free chicken, cauliflower, kale and carrots, pizza-seasoned pretzels, brownie sweetened with applesauce and yogurt ranch for dipping
- Easy cheesy pizza – flatbreads, veggie marinara sauce with apple, zucchini, spinach and carrots, Tillamook mozzarella, Unreal milk chocolate gems
- Guac nacho dips – Mexican-style cheese blend from Tillamook, corn tortilla chips, mashed avocado and a banana chocolate chip muffin made with barley flour

HIGHLIGHTS SUBSCRIPTION
One more kid thing! Finn is obsessed with the Highlights Hidden Pictures books so my grandmother got him a subscription to Highlights magazine. Such a fun memory from my own childhood. The first issue arrived a few weeks ago and he was SO pumped! A wonderful way to get him off his iPad and engaged in fun games. I know he’ll love it even more as he becomes a more confident reader through his K year!
WILD RIVERS LIVE
On the adult front, I ventured out on a school night to see Wild Rivers at The Underground at the Fillmore. They were SO GOOD! I already liked their music but I appreciate them even more after seeing them live. They were one of those rare bands that sound even better live than they do on their albums. They were also very personable and chatty which is always fun. Highly recommend seeing them if you’re a fan and they come to your area.
RECESS MOOD MAGNESIUM BLEND STICKS
I received a sample box of Recess’ new Mood Calming Magnesium Blend Sticks. They feature a blend of magnesium L-threonate, adaptogens and electrolytes and are designed to promote relaxation and help you unwind.
I’ve been mixing it into sparkling water with some tart cherry juice in the evenings for a deliciously relaxing cocktail! 🙂
RISHI TEA
Whole Foods has been having a huge tea and coffee sale so I decided to try this Rishi Greek Mountain Tea. It’s SO AMAZING! 10/10 recommend!!! It’s blend of ginger, licorice root, chamomile, oregano and “organic mountain tea” which is apparently dried leaves and flowers of Sideritis plants (ironwort). Always appreciate a sachet full of tea over a tea bag but it’s usually more of a spurge. This one was worth it!
I went back to Whole Foods for another box of the Greek Mountain Tea while it was on sale and also got the Rishi Turmeric Ginger Tea and two big bags of Counter Culture coffee that were on sale for a great price.
BEST COUCH CLEANING HELPER
I have an amazing carpet cleaner for my area rugs but I’ve yet to invest in an upholstery cleaner. I messaged one of my neighbor mom friends yesterday and asked if she had one I could borrow and was thrilled when she loaned me her Shark StainStriker. This thing is INCREDIBLE and freshened my couches right up! It’s currently on sale at Walmart for $99 and I’m absolutely ordering one.
Technically, I can take all of the covers off of this Ikea couch but it’s a multi-day process when I decide to do that. This Shark is perfect for cleaning in between the deep cleans and great for the couch in my playroom that doesn’t have removable covers.
TWO THRILLERS I’VE FLOWN THROUGH
I’ve read two engaging thrillers recently that I flew through – Drowning Woman and Broken Bayou. Bonus – both were available on Kindle Unlimited!
I’m going to call it a wrap! Hope you enjoyed this Sunday dose of random faves!
