Oh what a Tuesday it was. I slept horrendously last night and found myself up and at ’em at 4:30a listening to a podcast and cleaning my house. I knew I didn’t have the mental bandwidth to work on the computer but I did feel motivated to get my space tidy. I left for the gym at 6:30a and had five personal training clients back-to-back. It was a great morning of training and everyone worked super hard!
I got home around lunchtime and laid myself out on my driveway to get some vitamin D while I talked to my dad and then Virginia. The weather has been gorgeous in Charlotte lately and my new favorite thing is a 20/30 minute driveway sunbathing session after a long morning of teaching and training.
Once my sun session was over, I came inside to shoot some images for a partnership I’m working on – and I ate what I shot for lunch. The rest of my afternoon was on the computer answering emails and working on brand collaborations.
I broke around 4p to take these cuties for a walk. We got three miles in while I had the best chat with my grandmother.
I taught class at Charlotte Yoga at 5:45p and it was so, so good. I have been teaching yoga for 12 years this month and I still pinch myself regularly that I get to do this for work. Nothing fills me up, lights me up and steadies me more than being in that room calling poses. I have some big yoga stuff coming up soon and I can’t wait to share with y’all.
I picked up dog food on the way home and now I’m camped out on the couch under a blanket watching Love Is Blind season 4 while I write this post. Didn’t think I’d watch this season but it has received so much chatter on social that I couldn’t resist. It’s easy background entertainment.
Okay, let’s also talk about this.
My sweet hazel-eyed boy will be FIVE YEARS OLD exactly one month from today. HOW!? Seriously, how has it been almost five years since this beautiful soul was born? Five seems like a big birthday but this age has been really sweet. He’s an amazing little sidekick and I absolutely adore being his mom. I will have many more mushy things to say when he turns five but for now I’m just going to soak up the final month of four.
I’ll roll this into some scenes from life last weekend with my number one guy.
FRIDAY DATE NIGHT
Friday date night at State of Confusion. I was invited to a soft opening for this new to Charlotte restaurant and we had the best time!
State of Confusion is in LoSo and a two-story building that can seat around 500 people. It’s dog and family-friendly and has rooftop cabanas, downstairs patios, fire pits, games and more.
The food is an interesting fusion mix of Latin American, New Orleanian and low-country fare. I started with one of their ceviches and had the homemade veggie burger for my main. Finn had chicken fingers and french fries. The ceviche was great and they have a few others that I’m eager to try. The veggie burger was housemade and tasty but fell apart and was hard to eat. Finn’s chicken fingers were ah-mazing and so tender and juicy.
I’d definitely go back for a causal hangout with friends or easy outdoor dinner with Finn.
SATURDAY THINGS
I took the dogs on a good walk while Finn was participating in Pokemon community day with his dad. Finn is more than a little obsessed with Pokemon right now but I am holding very strong in his dad being the Pokemon guru and haven’t put the app on my phone. We do read books watch shows and listen to Pokemon songs over here though. All Pokemon, all the time.
Finn came home very happy and we went out for ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s after an early dinner. It was such a pretty day and ice cream sounded so good. Finn had chocolate with sprinkles…per usual…and I had some kind of salted caramel blondie that was really delicious. While we were sitting there Finn said to me, “mommy this is the best day ever.”
HOME-BASED SUNDAY
We kept it close to home on Sunday. I asked Finn if he wanted to do the gym or a stroller run and he opted for a ride in the running stroller. I somehow pushed this 40-something pound child for five miles. Go me – I’m zero percent ashamed of my pride. 😉 All of those sled pushes at the gym are paying off with these runs.
We also did some chocolate chip cookie baking and slime making. Here’s our go-to fluffy slime recipe.
- 2/3 cup white glue
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 2-3 cups shaving cream (the old-school fluffy kind like barbasol)
- 1.5 tbsp contact lens solution
- food coloring
Stir together glue, water and baking soda. Add in shaving cream. Add in food coloring. Slowly add 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution and knead for five minutes. It will be super sticky. Add the last 1/2 tablespoon at the end and it will all come together more.
I’ll leave you with this. They are too cute and were begging for a cookie at the time.
I need to get to bed! I had a goal bedtime of 9p and it’s now 9:30. I have four clients to train tomorrow along with a yoga class to teach and a Barry’s class to take…all before I pick up Finn from preschool. Godspeed.
