Hi, hello. I hope it’s been a great week for you. I’ve been keeping very busy with work but also trying to make the most of the last few weeks of summer before school starts back and we tighten up the routine.
Here’s a visual representation of our mindset lately, haha. Evening swims and lax bedtimes have been the usual.
One evening we set out on a walk/scooter ride around the block after dinner and then found ourselves still wandering around the neighborhood as it started to get dark.
While I appreciate a solid schedule, I also LOVE having margin for play, fun and going off script – especially when I have Finn. I think these are where some of the sweetest childhood memories are made.
More lifey stuff…
SO EXCITED FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL! Kickoff in a week. My mama sent me a new Georgia flag because my old one was so faded. Love this big G waving proudly!
Summer running has been really hard. While I am not in a huge rush for fall to get here, I will welcome the cooler temps for running with open arms.
On the topic of running, I’m tossing the idea of running the Charlotte Marathon half in November. I haven’t run a half since I was pregnant with Finn but it’s always been one of my favorite distances. I max out my distance at 6-7 miles these days due to my focus on managing my hip condition non-surgically but I’m wondering if I train very conservatively with a ton of maintenance like chiro, massage, mobility, etc if I can get a way with it. Obviously, I would bail if training didn’t go well but I love this race and one of my clients asked if I might want to train with her.
What do y’all think? I might go for it!
In other running and racing news, I’m going to be running the Around the Crown 10K on September 3. This is such a cool Charlotte race because you run on the I-277 beltway that circles around Uptown Charlotte. I ran it two years ago and had a blast. I am exited to be in town for it again this year!!! I’ll be giving away a race entry on Instagram so if you don’t follow me there, do it now!
Let’s shift gears to the self-care front. I felt like I got hit by a truck last week. Fatigue, body aches, headaches, all the fun things. I actually ended up taking three covid tests because that’s a thing again and I’ve known and been exposed to some people who have had it. All were negative so I’m chalking it up to being exhausted after my last teacher training weekend, having an immune response to covid exposure that my body fought off or some other random virus.
I gave myself a huge pass on workouts and napped most afternoons around 3p.
By Friday I was ready to venture out for yoga. I took myself out for a sushi dinner after. I was going to order takeout but ended up sitting at the bar and dining in and it was really lovely.
My next stop was Dairy Queen. For whatever reason I’d been craving a blizzard for months. I grew up on these things but can’t tell you the last time I had one. It was a great nostalgic treat. I got a mix of Oreo and Reese’s.
I decided to go all out and take an epsom salt bath when I got home with a candle and a cup of hot tea. I need more of these evenings in my life.
I baked cookies on Saturday. My favorite oatmeal raisin chocolate chip. I haven’t made these in forever and they’re soooo delicious.
I also went to the farmers market. It’s not even the end of summer and I’m already having all the feelings about saying goodbye to the produce. I cannot let a Saturday go by without a trip to the market. The grocery store produce is just not the same.
I ended my Saturday at the pool. It was so nice to sit and read my book as the sun set. I am reading Abby Jiminez’s new book Yours Truly. Her books are so easy but with relatable substance. Here’s my summer reading list if you need some inspiration!
Like I mentioned at the start of this post, this week has been work, work, work. Here’s what I look like day-to-day as I bounce back and forth from the gym to the yoga studio. This week I had 15 client session and 6 yoga classes. It’s a LOT of running around but I love it so much.
I’ll actually be taking a full week off next week for the first time since Christmas. I’m feeling some anxiety about not working (when you’re self-employed you don’t get paid when you take vacation), I am very much needing the reset and planning to make the most of it.
Okay, time to get this little guy tucked into bed.
Sending you guys all the best wishes!
