After my delicious lunch the day only got better. After lunch I made a trip to Trader Joe’s to shop for a work party this afternoon.
My row at work (the third row) hosted a “block party” at 4:03 p.m. to celebrate the arrival of some new faces to our area (not new to the agency, just people moving around). As part of the shuffle, we negotiated a small budget for a small party to introduce our new group and had a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Obviously, I volunteered to coordinate food (although I must point out that I did NOT add the orange popcorn to the spread). I made peanut butter chocolate chip bars and then got lots of good snacks from Trader Joe’s.
The boys handled the booze. Typical. I’m pretty sure we had at least six varieties of beer and a pretty stocked bar.
We had a nice turnout and I think we inspired other groups to host “block parties” throughout the summer!
Since the studio is closed for a few days, I didn’t have to teach yoga tonight. I planned on visiting another studio to practice but got caught up at work socializing and cleaning up after our party and missed class. I hadn’t practiced since last Friday and was anxious to get on my mat.
So when I got home I took my mat and iPod dock outside and did a home practice. I was hoping that I could get my sweat on since it was 90 degrees today but by the time I got out there it was cooler and breezy and nothing close to the heat of the studio. I still very much enjoyed my practice and ended it with lots of hip openers. Long holds in pigeon, double pigeon and a four-minute frog. The only downside to the outdoor practice was a few mosquito bites but overall it was great!
Dinner was a random creation from the fridge/pantry. Penne with peas, spinach, sundried tomatoes and parmesan. Arugula salad on the side.
Thursday is my last day at work before a four-day weekend. I’m taking Friday off to visit my grandmother! What are your plans for the long weekend?
Going home this weekend ๐
Can I switch jobs?!?! Sounds like such a fun idea! Beer at work is awesome ๐
I am heading to the beach this weekend to see my parents! Enjoy your visit with your grandmother. I’m sure she will be so happy to see you!
have fun at the beach – a perfect july 4th weekend! ๐
A 4 minute frog? My hips hurt just thinking about it ๐ But good for you! I wish I had the dedication to do yoga on my own.
home practices are much easier now for me since i did teacher training!
Your office reminds me of our Luckie days! ๐ The peas and pasta creation looks delicious! Happy “Friday” to you!
i know, there are definitely perks to working in advertising! ๐
Gosh, I wish someone like you organized my work parties. It’s all neon colored junk food & soda here. Haha!
My plan for the weekend is to run a 5K on Sunday. It’s my second one and I’m super excited :]
i know, i hate that so i volunteered to take on food. we had hummus and pita, cheese and crackers, carrots and chips and fresh salsa! snacky but healthier.
and GOOOOOD LUCK on your 5K!!!!!
Jen, I’m so glad you are going to see your grandmother. I know you will have a great trip. We will be thinking about you guys from Charleston! Any favorite places we should visit?
I have an 8 day stretch of work before I have time off. I’m going to try and squeeze in some time with my roommates this weekend though and maybe head into the city to see the fireworks on Monday. ๐
Have a great holiday weekend!!
Oh no! I was just going to say that practicing outside sounds like a great idea until you mentioned the mosquitos. They ruin summer!
Have a wonderful time visiting your grandma!
That is a really fun thing for your office to do! Have a great weekend ๐
iwant your lifeeeeeee!
dinner looks so so good!
and bf’s aunt’s pool for the 4th can’t wait!!
While I am still unable to run on my stress fracture, I am able to walk (Horray!). My family is vacationing in Hawaii and we walk along the beach everyday. They can walk farther than I can at this point so I just hop into the water and go for a long swim. I cannot tell you how much swimming and yoga have allowed me to mend the muscles around my stress fracture. It is miraculous! I cannot wait to get back into running – all your pictures make me really envious but I am so grateful to be able to do what I can ๐ Happy weekend Jen!
