Since y’all love a good day in the life, Pi Day seems like a great occasion to do one! 🙂 It’s interesting that I’m choosing to recognize a math holiday given that math is LITERALLY the bane of my existence. I’ll tell you more about that at some point in time.
But for now…
6:15a – my alarm goes off but I snooze until 7a. I don’t have Finn on Thursday mornings but I do have to teach yoga so I need to get my booty out of bed.
7a – make coffee and breakfast, feed the dogs and pump. Breakfast is a smoothie bowl with peaches, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, dates, spinach, cauliflower rice, plain greek yogurt, peanut butter and almond milk. This has been my favorite combo for the last few weeks.
7:30a – head upstairs and get dressed to teach. Pack some coffee to go in my new HydroFlask. This thing keeps my coffee so hot that I can barely drink it two hours later!
7:50a – leave to teach. Even though I know how to get where I’m going, I always use WAZE to help me navigate rush hour traffic. Sometimes I think it’s a godsend, sometimes I think…was all of this weaving around really worth it?
8:10a – arrive at VIBE5 to teach my 8:15a hot yoga class.
9:22a – leave VIBE5 to head to Charlotte Yoga to teach another hot yoga class.
9:29a – arrive at Charlotte Yoga with ONE MINUTE to spare before class starts. Refill my water bottle, walk into the studio and immediately start class. NOTE: there is nothing about this turn time that is ideal but we are making it work. Both studio owners/managers have been so understanding.

My classes this week have all been themed around twisting, using blocks and recognizing how much a little help can help! We’ve talked a lot about how surrendering to asking for or accepting help isn’t a sign of weakness, but a sign of a willingness to go deeper.
I am LOVING the flexibility that I have these days to teach from a more personal and intuitive space rather than having to follow a set formula/template. Don’t get me wrong, I am still teaching a challenging hot power flow but it feels more authentic to me.
10:55 a.m. – I arrive home and quickly shower, pick up in the kitchen and Finn’s nursery, make my bed, switch over laundry and wash dishes. I snack on some Wheat Thins while I’m doing all of this.
11:55 a.m. – Tanner drops Finn off after their weekly swim lesson. Finn is always wiped out after these lessons but they were the only ones in class today so he is EXTRA exhausted after all of the “work.”
Speaking of work, I need to nurse Finn and get him down for a nap but I have a conference call at noon for a project kickoff with Love The Wild. Luckily, pretty much all the ladies on the call are moms so they understand Finn joining me for the call. Once we got through introductions and into the presentation, I am able to nurse him and he starts getting drowsy and just relaxes while I hold him.
RELATED: I cannot wait to share more with you guys about Love the Wild and their awesome products over the next few months!
12:45p – call ends and I take Finn upstairs for his nap. He goes right to sleep.
1p – I make lunch for myself.
SURPRISE! Turkey on Nature’s Own Honey Wheat with Duke’s Mayo, avocado, pepper jack and bread and butter pickles. Pineapple on the side.
Finn sleeps for 2 solid hours so I am able to get a ton done. I answer emails and work on invoicing and project tracking.
3p – Finn is up and ready for a snack/very late lunch. He was WAY too tired to eat when he got home from swimming.
Finn eats saltine crackers, avocado, cheese and pineapple. I just introduced pineapple a few days ago and he LOVES it. Made me smile since it was my #1 pregnancy food craving! 🙂
3:40p – leave for a walk with the girls.
It’s 70 degrees and gorgeous out so we walk the trails and make a pit stop at the park for some swinging. Finn loves the swings! 🙂
Over the course of our walk I talk to my mom, Dorie and my grandmother. Love walking dates, whether they are in person or on the phone! 🙂
4:45p – arrive home. Start mad dash to get ready for babysitter and to leave to teach my final class.
4:55p – babysitter arrives but I am not ready. Finish putting together Finn’s dinner, vacuuming up dog hair (daily occurrence) and then realize I still need to nurse Finn.
5:20p – finally leave home and use WAZE again to help me make it to teach on time.
5:45p – teach my final class of the week at Charlotte Yoga (until I sub some this weekend). Get gas afterwards and check in with babysitter. She says that Finn went down for the night.
*NOTE for new readers: when I teach yoga, I do not practice with my students! I walk around the room, instruct and assist. I don’t even roll a mat out. So teaching three classes in a day doesn’t mean that I do three classes. 🙂
7:30p – arrive home and find Finn wide awake. Spend the next 45 minutes or so nursing him and getting him settled back in bed.
8:15p – I made a homemade pizza on Tuesday so I was excited to dig into the leftovers. Perfect given that today is Pi Day. I preheat the oven while getting Finn down.
8:45p – finally sit down to eat dinner. I enjoy leftover pizza and a salad with arugula, balsamic, olive oil, sea salt, honey, pistachios, feta, dried cranberries and strawberries.
9p – start editing photos for this post and then write it.
10p – about to hit publish on this post and head to bed to read! 🙂
10:40p – edited to add…I am now eating ice cream. A mix of Ben + Jerry’s AmeriCone Dream and Talenti Raspberry Cheesecake. I REALLY love mixing ice cream flavors!
THE END!
Did you celebrate Pi Day?
Do you like/enjoy math?
What is/was your babies favorite fruit? I cannot get Finn to eat bananas!
Really enjoyed your reading about your typical Thursday. Wow honestly sounds like a FULL day!!! A little thought on bananas—depending on how you slice a banana they can be really slippery to pick up. When mine were just getting the hang of it I would gently squeeze a whole banana so that it fell apart in that natural 3 part formation that made little sticks that had the natural texture since they weren’t cut with a knife they were easy for babies to pick up. If that makes any sense at all. I never realized a banana naturally spread into three sections. Anyway or fin just doesn’t like banana flavor yet!! All berries were a huge hit with my babies. And cold slices of apples during teething time.
Hey Beth – it was a full day but a good day! I know the banana slices are slippery and I thought the same thing…but then he has no problem with avocado slices, which I feel are very similar. I know exactly what you are talking about with the segmenting of bananas! I think he just doesn’t love the flavor yet. He also doesn’t love berries yet! He does seem to like apples and pears! 🙂
I LOVE math! I wish I could have helped you love it, too. I majored in it and I now tutor all levels of math at the local community college. Where I used to teach/tutor in Florida we celebrated pi day every year. The staff made or bought pies to share with the students and on 3/14/15 (pi day of the century) we purchased matching t-shirts and wore them to work. I joke that I’m a “math nerd”, but seriously I’ve come to realize over the years that math people are my tribe. My coworkers are some of the most brilliant and kind people I’ve ever met!
I cannot even understand loving math. My whole life, math and numbers have always made me feel so dumb and self-conscious. I just don’t get it. I even changed my major in college because of math requirements. So THANK YOU for being a math tutor to all of us who struggle.
I LOVE Math. I have a degree in math! But I seem to be in the minority in loving math, regardless of gender. A lot of people just don’t like the subject but I have always loved it. As a black and white person, I love that there is just ONE answer to a problem. 😉 It’s funny that pi day is now something other people are aware of! I celebrated by eating a couple of yummy macarons yesterday. I have celiac so traditional “pi day” meals/treats don’t work well for me, so I always get my favorite circular treat!
So our son is just not a big fan of fruit. He will eat anything in puree form but we rarely give those anymore unless we are traveling or out to eat. He has started to eat bananas but we try not to give them to him often as he tends to get constipated really easily. He likes pears and that is kind of about it for fruit. At daycare he will eat anything and everything they give him, though! But then at home he refuses to eat it and spits it out. So weird. But at least he’s eating a lot of different fruit and veggies there! His favorite fruit/veggie is carrots. I make a batch of sliced cooked carrots in the instant pot every week and he gobbles them up!
I can totally get you loving math if you are a black and white person. For whatever reason, my brain just does NOT function mathematically. I have always struggled with it and actually changed my major in college because of math requirements. I love your Pi day macarons! How sweet! 🙂
Gosh, it’s so funny how babies are so different. I CANNOT get Finn to eat purees! It’s also so funny how smart babies are about what they will and will not do in various settings.Finn is the same way between me and his dad!
I was always good in math, even thought about majoring it in until I went to a science focused career. I did tutor in calculus and trig as a side gig. At work we have always celebrated pi day, by bringing in pies and this year it gave me a good excuse to try a new bakery that is devoted to pies that opened up nearby. My daughter loves fruit. She also loved pineapple and also mango was a popular one. She did like berries.
On a side note your smoothie bowl looks very good. Do you have an idea of the amounts of each item you add? I am the only one in the family who likes smoothies, and I have a hard time not going overboard.
I cannot even understand this “I tutored calculus and trig as a side gig.” I seriously changed my major in college because I could NOT pass calculus. My brain just does not function that way!
RE smoothie bowl…here’s a general idea…
4 frozen strawberries
1/2 frozen banana
3-4 frozen peach slices
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup frozen spinach
1/4 cup frozen cauliflower rice
2 dates
big spoonful peanut butter
big spoonful plain greek yogurt
1/2-3/4 cup milk of choice
Hey Jen. Couple of thoughts:
When my oldest was younger, I used to mix banana and avocado together in a purée and we called it banado. Maybe that might help him try banana more. Also he loved papaya back then though it would immediately make him poop. Ha.
It’s great that you’re teaching at different studios now and I’m looking forward to coming to one of your classes soon. I told myself that I’m going to branch out from y2 (no slam on them; I just need more variety) and try a bunch of different studios. I call it my yoga walkabout.
Wow, I haven’t even thought about giving Finn papaya! Great inspiration to keep being adventurous with our foods! 🙂 I would love to see you in class. I know how hard it is to break from routine, so whenever you’re ready. It’s been a huge blessing for me. <3
That pizza looks amazing! Do you make your own crust? I’m trying to get back into bread-baking and thought I’d give pizza crust a try this weekend.
One of my friends LOVES math (it was never my strong subject in school) and a few years ago she made me an “Apple Pi a la Mode” t-shirt and gave it to me in a pie tin. It is so cute, I wear it every Pi Day!
I do not. This crust was from a pasta/gnocchi maker at the farmers market. My dad does make amazing pizza crust so I’ll get his recipe and share it! OMG, love that Pi day gift. How cute!
I totally forgot about too tired to eat. Haha, now that mine is 3 I don’t think she is ever too tired for food but when she was a baby that would totally happen.
Haha! It’s a REAL thing! I don’t even try if I know he’s overtired. Nurse and bed ASAP!
Re: bananas – grace was the same way. Suddenly liked them at 13 months. I would just try every once in awhile. I read a post Megan from feeding Littles did on Instagram about the number of times she offered her kids bananas before they ate them ??. Graces favorite food is 100% Mac and cheese. She’s so healthy ?❤️
