Back to the real world and catching up? (Why can’t every weekend be a four-day weekend? Waaaahhh….)
We Went to Georgia! Part One and Part Two.
Sullie turned FIVE! Beware, cute golden retriever photos!
Our long weekend was fabulous! We arrived home from Georgia late Saturday evening and decided to go out for pizza and beer at one of our favorite local pizza places, Pizza Peel.
Pizza Peel offers over 30 draft beers and they’re always changing the selection. I love trying new beers when we go!
We split a Greek salad to start.
And then I had what I think is the best pizza in Charlotte – the One Veggie (pictured on left…manly meat-based pizza on the right). A heavenly combination of red sauce, mozzarella, roasted garlic, mushrooms, goat cheese, artichokes and pesto and then I always add sundried tomatoes. Perfection in a pizza!!!
I was up bright and early on Sunday morning to practice ashtanga before I taught hot yoga. I don’t know what it is about those early Sunday practices but they leave me feeling so inspired to teach afterwards. It was a beautiful class!
I made red, white and blue pancakes for brunch when I got home.
Blueberry pancakes made with half white/half wheat flour (Brandon was none the wiser!) and topped with almond butter, Greek yogurt, raspberries and a drizzle of syrup.
We met up with some of Brandon’s friends to spend the evening at the U.S. National Whitewater Center for music and fireworks.
They have such a great setup for concerts. You can enjoy live music while watching people come down the river in rafts, kayaks and canoes.
I couldn’t even believe how crowded it was! The Whitewater Center offered three days of FREE music and fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.
We had dinner at the Whitewater Center restaurant. It’s a casual place but they have tons of vegan and gluten free options, which I think is really cool. I had the black bean burger salad + quite a few of Brandon’s sweet potato waffle fries!
A great evening! I’m so happy that we have the Whitewater Center right here in Charlotte and that they offer so many cool events!
And finally…the actual day of July Fourth! I started my day with a super sweaty but awesome 90 minute yoga practice. The highlight of the practice was playing with mayurasana (peacock pose) which is pretty much impossible but it’s always fun to try challenging new things and I love arm balances.
After refueling with kombucha and leftover pizza, we met Brandon’s brother and his wife for an afternoon at the pool.
The pool was rocking this afternoon! Everyone was out and having a great time.
My nieces especially enjoyed a frozen yogurt treat.
And I especially enjoyed a Firefly + lemonade cocktail treat! 😉
I can’t believe that I have to get back to the grind tomorrow. I’m working all day and teaching two classes so it’s right back to it. At least it’s a short week! I hope you guys all had a happy Fourth of July!
You’ve had such a busy but fun weekend. That pizza look heavenly!! Question, at want point did you start really appreciating yoga. I’m trying to get into it, but sometimes I think I just go through the motion or still am trying to get the poses just right.
brittaney – regarding yoga…i used to HATE it. seriously, it was torturous. it wasn’t until i discovered power style/hot yoga that i really fell in love. i got such a rush from the classes. they were so hard and LOVED how bad i was at it! 😉
do you practice at a studio?
Oh how I miss a nice firefly and lemonade- YUM!
And the Pizza Peel! We used to go there with friends every week for trivia. Have you played their beer poker, where you draw a card and get a beer the corresponds with what you drew? It was a fun way to try new beers!
Looks like an awesome weekend 🙂
i love their beer poker! we’ve found that even when you draw low cards, you still get pretty good beers!
and your time will come soon enough for firefly + lemonade! 😉
I was at the WWC yesterday biking the trails. The place was slammed! 🙂
i know – crazy crowded this weekend but that’s good!
We have never been to Pizza Peel! We’ll have to try it out! And the Whitewater Center looks like so much fun. I’ve only ever been there before for races.
Oh firefly + lemonade. That’s my favorite drink! I can’t wait to have it again next year 🙂
given your love for pizza, you must try out pizza peel! you should definitely go check out the whitewater center on a random day. it’s even fun just to eat at the restaurant and watch everyone come down the river!
Firefly is the BEST. Follow them on Twitter and they’ll probably RT your blog link that mentions them:) They are cool about that.
great tip! thanks! looooovvvvee firefly!
Peacock pose is one of my favorites! If you can do lotus pose (its tough on the knees for lots of people), its a bit easier to get into peacock from there -> your feet and knees are closer to your center of gravity making it less difficult to lift the lower body up and stay balanced. (ps Sorry if you already knew that – just figured I’d share a tip from my own personal experience)
meghan – actually i had not thought about going into it that way! i practice a lot of ashtanga which is heavy on the lotus postures so i’m definitely comfortable with that. i’m definitely going to try this. thanks! 😉
I love going to the WWC! It’s fun on Thursday nights too. You guys should join us one evening. 🙂 It’s Sully and Rascal friendly which is even more fun!
YES! Sounds great!
such a cute bathing suite!
and damn girl that pose looks ridiculouss!!!
glad you had a great weekend!
We just finished our last bottle of Firefly from the states… it is amazing!!
