One of the most challenging aspects of my all over the place schedule is making sure that I fuel myself properly given often long stretches between meals and late dinners. I always make sure to eat a substantial breakfast, lunch and dinner but I often find myself needing a good snack, especially in the afternoon. My go to choices are apples with peanut butter and bars. I look for snacks that are a good balance between carbs and protein so that they’ll actually hold me over and not have me starving again 5 minutes later.
I recently had the opportunity to sample a new protein bar from Cascadian Farm that has become my bar of choice over the last few weeks. I’ve carried one with me in my purse and gym bag ever since and they’ve saved me several times from a hunger emergency!
The new bars are made with pea protein which is plant-based and a great option for anyone who follows a vegan or vegetarian diet. They are also organic.
The ingredients list is short but the nutritional content is substantial with 250 calories, healthy fats, relatively low sugar (especially compared to many other bars and to flavored greek yogurt) and a decent amount of protein.
The texture and flavor of the bars is perfect. They are loaded with big pieces of nuts and are nice and chewy. I actually feel like I’ve had a good snack that will keep me full after eating one of the protein chewy bars.
I love both flavors but surprisingly prefer the honey roasted nut flavor over the peanut butter chocolate chip!
It served as the perfect post-run recovery snack after my five miler last week and I also ate one after a tough CrossFit workout.
And I thew a few in my bag for this yoga retreat and they’ve totally saved me when I need something to hold me over before or after practicing. Getting food in the restaurants here is definitely “on island time” and when I need food, I need it now! 🙂
The amazing team at Cascadian Farm sent me a prize pack to share with a reader so that you can try the bars too and get some extra goodies. The prize pack includes a box of each flavor of chewy protein bars, a cute and soft t-shirt, a reusable tote/shopping bag, a water bottle and the most cozy mittens ever. (I have a pair and have worn them all winter!)

Those bars look great! Ever since I started taking Body Pump and kickboxing classes, I’ve noticed that the only way I’m going to see results is to increase my protein intake! Hope you’re having a great trip!!
