One of the perks of my job (there are too many to list!) is that I can bring Sullie into the gym with me when I’m spending time knocking out desk work. Science Daily actually just published an article about a study that shows dogs in the workplace can reduce stress and make the job more satisfying for other employees as well.
“Dogs in the workplace can make a positive difference…The differences in perceived stress between days the dog was present and absent were significant. The employees as a whole had higher job satisfaction than industry norms.”
It’s great for us both because she’s happier with me and loves all the attention and the change of scenery and I get the benefit of her cute face making me smile all day. She knows the routine of going into work with me now and the first thing she does is check to see who’s working the front desk and whether she’s getting a treat. She gets lots of visitors who stop by to pat her and even take her for walks.
I thought it may be distracting to have her there but she is so chill and just looks over the gate into the gym or out of my windows the whole time. The only negative is the dog hair cleanup required after she visits!
From the time Sullie was a baby puppy she was socialized and mobile. Anytime I can bring her along to run errands or on roadtrips, I do. She loves riding in the car.
What do you think about dogs in the workplace? And if you are a dog owner, is your dog happier at home or out with you?
Dinner last night was pizza from Mellow Mushroom. Always delicious. This was the Mellowterranean with chicken, feta, peppers, chives, olives and a white garlic sauce. Followed by some dips into the Ben & Jerry’s Greek frozen yogurt pint.
More overnight oats for breakfast today. Oats, plain Greek yogurt, bananas, blueberries, almond milk, chia seeds, cinnamon and dried cranberries.
Lunch was sauteed Swiss chard with mushrooms, smoked sundried tomatoes, a scrambled egg, goat gouda and the rest of the Grit Gravy. I could just eat this stuff with a spoon.
I tried a new brand of kombucha but the verdict is that Synergy is still my fave. I like how fizzy it is.
Trying to convice myself to jump into the CrossFit class this evening but I’m still sore from Monday’s workout so I’m being a baby about it. I need some yoga in my life but just can’t fit a class into my schedule right now. It’s so much easier to just do CrossFit since I’m already at the gym!
My poor German Shepherd is not a car-loving dog. We socialized her as a puppy so she is great in crowds, with kids, loud noises, you name it! That said, she is just an antsy passenger — and if my spouse or I get out of the car she goes nuts… You’d think if one of us was sitting with her, she’d be fine, but no such luck. My theory is that because she’s a guard dog she is worried about us 😉
Love and truly believe in the power of dogs in the work place! I get regular requests to being in my pugs… They love it and so do my coworkers!
Love and truly believe in the power of dogs in the work place! I get regular requests to bring In my pugs… They love it and so do my coworkers! taking Sullie in is doing a good thing for everyone’s soul-whether they realize it or not!
I work from home so am lucky to get to have my dog Charlie (a German Shepherd) by my side every day. It’s so great! 😀 So glad Sullie can come in with you some days. Good for you both!
Also, reading the comment from JennyV above – Charlie is happy in the car *unless* we stop somewhere and one of us gets out. Then he also gets super antsy in the same way you describe! I also roll with the theory that he stresses because if he can’t see us, he can’t protect us. (Do I know how to project emotions onto dogs or what? Ha.) Silly sheppies.
As a certified Therapy Dog, Sadie came to work with me very regularly. My co-workers were always so excited to see her and it got to where they would ask where she was before greeting me on a day I didn’t have her! :/ Glad to see a link to a researched article, I never could find one.
I love synergy kombucha too! It’s just the best! I would love to have a dog in my workplace!!! I think it would definitely make the environment more positive and just better overall!
LOVE Mellow Mushroom
I have 3 chocolate labs and they LOVE the car. Last week I was cleaning out the car and took a few loads of stuff (traveling gypsy) into the house when I realized Emma, my 10 year old, was missing. I went back into the garage just to find her sitting in the passenger seat waiting patiently for a ride 🙂
that is SO cute!
Well it’s a little different scenario since I work on airplanes but I love love love having dogs onboard. They sadly have to stay in their doggie kennels but I always pet them in the terminal or when they are leaving the aircraft and they have their heads sticking out. 🙂
I recently tried hot yoga and it is so challenging. After my first class I went to sleep straight away. I am trying to convince myself to go once again as I bet the first time was a shock to my body. Any tips for survival during hot yoga?
Sullie is my new favorite reason to get to the gym!!! I cannot wait to meet her as I am a HUGE fan of all things golden!
Thanks again for Monday’s workout, I am crazy SORE but love it!
😉 Donna
thanks so much for the comment donna. i loved meeting you as well and can’t wait to keep working with you!
I’ve never worked somewhere that allowed dogs to come but as long as they are well behaved I think it would be great!
To be totally honest, I am just not a dog person. I know, GASP! I really want to be, I am just not. Every now and then I come across a dog I love, but it is rare. Sully looks like one of those dogs that you can’t help but love!
that is totally okay! some people just are not! but sullie is happy you think she’s cute! 😀
So I have been searching for the best pizza in Charlotte, and so far Mellow Mushroom is on top. Would you agree or is there another place I should go? (Already been to Pizza Peel and Fuel Pizza)
So jealous that you get to bring Sullie to work with you!! I just got a boykin puppy and hate when I have to leave her, she definitely likes being with me than at home by herself (or so I think)! And got to love some mellow mushroom–their crust is out of this world 🙂
I am so very jealous that your pup goes to work with you. I would love to have Laverne around but I’m not sure she would be the best coworker. She would make too much noise playing with her mooing stuffed cow toy all day.
Synergy is definitely the best Kombucha. I’ve tried a few other brands and always regret it upon first sip!
That’s great you can bring Sullie into work! I’m always happy when I see dogs in the workplace, instead of being cooped up alone at home. That gravy sounds amazing
I think everyone should have a dog. Period. I miss my dogs. I am in Japan for the Marines.
Lots of people bring their dogs to work in this area. I love it! Of course, I don’t have a dog, but I get to enjoy them.
