It’s been another weird week with a holiday sandwiched in the middle of it but really good nonetheless. The flu is making its way around Charlotte something serious but luckily I got a flu shot this year so I seem to be avoiding it but I have been trying to help out some friends in need with homemade chicken noodle soup! It’s also FREEZING here so soup is pretty much the only thing that I want to eat so it’s a win/win for all parties. Get ready for lots of soup pics (judging from the national forecasts most of you should be okay with this) and comfort food. As much as I want January to be off to a “clean” start, intuitive eating for me is all about soup, grilled cheese and pizza right now!
Thursday morning oatmeal between training an early client and subbing a yoga class. I loved this mix of sauteed pears and dried cranberries topped with fig preserves and peanut butter.
Thursday lunch on a rainy, cold day was a grilled cheese with havarti and white cheddar on sourdough with tomato soup sprinkled with some fresh basil. Grapes on the side.
I made the most ginormous pot of chicken noodle soup on Thursday night to nourish the flu-ridden. I have had some recipe requests via Instagram so I’ll get it up this weekend!
Thursday night dinner was a bowl of my chicken noodle soup and a salad.
Friday started bright an early with subbing the 6:30 and 8:10 a.m. classes at Y2. I stayed after class to take some of the 9:15 and then came home and made a second breakfast of eggs and a clementine. First breakfast was a green smoothie.
I taught a packed lunch class at Om Yoga and then made a quick lunch before my weekly Metro management team meeting. I reheated soup and made another salad with a slice of toasted sourdough. Easy and good! The high today was like 35 so this lunch hit the spot.
After my meeting I got a wonderful workout in (details to come) and then wrapped up a couple hours of Metro work from the comfort of my home office. I always leave that meeting with so many take aways!
After a crazy week (and plans to go to Jay Z Saturday night!), I just wanted to stay in tonight. Dinner was homemade pizza which will FOREVER be my most favorite Friday night dinner.
What’s your favorite type of soup? Hard to choose but I love anything my grandmother makes or carrot ginger.
I love chicken tortilla soup! My fave!
I did not get a flu shot and never will — I focus on lifestyle more than anything (keeping up with my vitaminD, exercise and rest, plenty of greens, and get adjusted 🙂 ) People get all stressed out with the holidays, eat poorly, etc… and we wonder why it’s a ‘season’ of sickness. Glad you are well!
i love chicken tortilla too! so good. i just make a batch a few weeks ago.
i have gotten a flu shot almost every year since college for the reasons i stated in the comment below in response to laura. i work in such a germ filled environment where people come to the gym and yoga classes sick and i cannot afford to get sick and miss work or to spread things to my clients. 🙁
Mmm… everything pictured looks so yummy but especially the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I agree, right now with the cold weather, I just want soups and warm bread! I don’t have a favorite soup (it just depends on how I feel!) but I love homemade tortilla soup.
oh that is one of my faves too!
Everything Looks delicious. But your pizza is very impressive looking – professional even. 🙂
haha! thanks. it’s all about the baking stone and using the fresh dough!
I love so many kinds…..tomato, chicken tortilla, vegetable, you name it! Your chicken noodle soup looks amazing! The high here in the Chicago suburbs for Monday is -10! Ugh…..
that is SO COLD heidi! stay warm!
By the way, I did the 5k treadmill workout today. Loved it! Thank you for sharing!
YAY! i did it yesterday too! 🙂
Can’t wait to see your recipe for chicken noodle soup! My husband always wants me to make soups and they are just really not my thing…so hopefully this will be a great and easy go to recipe!
It’s so hard to stay healthy when you work so close to people and something is going around! Fingers crossed you stay cold/flu-free!
That grilled cheese looks epic and I can’t wait to get the recipe for that chicken noodle soup! Chicken noodle is definitely a classic, but I’ve always liked black bean soup, chilli, and potato soup too!
I make a mean mulligatawny soup, its delicious!
Being so health conscious, I’m very surprised you get the flu shot. Ive never gotten the flu shot and have managed to avoid the flu every year with healthy eating and supplements.
what is mulligatawny soup? i don’t think i’ve ever tried that. what recipe do you use?
i get a flu shot for a few reasons…
1) i had the flu my senior year of college and it knocked me on my ass for two solid weeks. i’ve never been so sick in my life. i’ve had a shot almost every year since then.
2) i work in gyms and yoga studios which are full of germs despite healthy eating and supplements. if i am sick i cannot work and i don’t make money. i don’t have sick days. 🙁
3) i feel like it’s the responsible thing to do given that i touch hundreds of people on a weekly basis.
it’s just the decision that works best for me at this stage in my life.
Is it weird that I don’t ever want soup? I don’t like it all that much unless I am sick. Except for tomato soup, on occasion I crave it but most of the time, even on days like now where we find ourselves in single digits, soup still doesn’t appear on my menu. I wish I wanted it to though!
i don’t think that’s weird. maybe you’re just not a soup person! do you crave other warm stuff like coffee or tea?
all these look so delicious!! do you make your own tomato soup?
i try to because it tastes so much better but not this week since i made the chicken noodle.
Drooling over that grilled cheese!
I love all soups, but if I had to a pick a favorite, I would say pho or potato soup! And it a great weekend for staying inside and eating soup here in DC!
I love vegetable soups and with it being 6 degrees right now, I sure would love a bowl of soup!!!
that sounds so cold…stay warm and make yourself some soup!
I made your vegetarian butternut squash bean chili yesterday in my slow cooker. It’s up on the blog today. Thank you for the inspiration! I’m still fighting this cold and I’m beyond over it. Glad you haven’t gotten the flu or any sort of sickness. Stay WARM! XOXO
i can’t believe you are still not feeling well. i’m so sorry. have you been to the doctor? at this point you may have some sort of other infection! thanks for trying my recipe!
I seriously just want ALL of your food. That oatmeal, soup, and pizza all look so comforting and delicious!
My favorite kind of soup would either be pho or split pea soup. Both of which would be really nice on this super cold day. 🙂
That oatmeal combo sounds amazing!!! I’m going to have to get my hands on some fig preserves! I think my favorite kind of soup is a vegetable soup done right – not the yucky canned stuff with no flavor and just chunks of potatoes, but a really nice Italian vegetable soup! Yum!
I’m with you on the soup, it’s all I want to eat right now. I’ve also been into “sauteed salad” – basically roasted veggies, sauteed greens, and quinoa.
I’d love to read how you make that delicious-looking homemade pizza!
I truly enjoy your blog. Its so refreshing to see someone in the fitness industry not all about “no carbs” “low fat” blah blah blah nonsense about eliminating food groups. Thank you for being inspiring!
