It’s been so nice to be out of my kitchen and in my dad’s…both delicious and inspiring. My dad’s been getting all crazy lately with making homemade bread, pizza dough and even his own yogurt on the regular. I’m going to share all of that in a separate post where I can brag on him.
I think you’ll love this recent eats post!
Breakfast
I introduced my parents to green smoothies. My dad said he’s going to play around with them and try out different recipes/combinations!
Lunch
Turkey on dad’s homemade sourdough with mayo, avocado, tomato and muenster cheese.
Salad with leftover grouper from one of my dinners. Homemade sourdough on the side.
I made this sandwich today to take down to the beach with me. Turkey, mayo, dijon, avocado, tomatoes and spinach. I had one bite left in my sandwich when I realized I forgot the cheese. Didn’t even miss it!
Dinner
The first night I was here with went to dinner at Rick’s Crab Trap. It’s a no-frills but crazy good seafood restaurant in Fort Walton. I started with a half dozen oysters on the half shell.
My dinner was blackened grouper and it was so flavorful. Loved the thick crust of seasoning and oh hushpuppies…
My mom had the crawfish boil. This dinner was a labor of love! It took her forever to get through all these things.
And my dad had the crab and shrimp steamer plate. I snuck a few crab legs and shrimp.
The second night I was here my dad grilled rib eyes and we had salad on the side.
And last night we had my dad’s homemade pizza. They have it every Tuesday night but I convinced them to bump it up a night and have it while I was here because I LOVE PIZZA! I had three slices! 🙂
Dessert
The night that we went out my mom and I split a piece of Derby pie. (It was Derby day.) The pie was served warm and was super chocolatey and delicious.
Another night I had a bowl of vanilla ice cream with berries and chocolate sauce.
It’s been three days of yummy eats. I feel spoiled! 🙂
What’s you favorite thing that your parents cook?
Wow you’re dad is a great chef! Sourdough bread is something I am trying to master, and your dad’s looks great!
These are super yummy eats! I really love my mom’s crab dinners and pork chops with some sauerkraut. 🙂
What a fantastic set of delicious eats!! That home made sour dough looks amazing- sourdough is my favourite bread for sure!
My Mum cooks the most amazing roast dinners – I can never beat them!
How lucky!!! I love getting home cooked meals.
I have had crawfish twice since moving to Houston and it is a lot of work for those little suckers! Favorite thing my Mom makes is her Italian meatballs and spaghetti. The absolute BEST! 🙂
What recipe does your dad use for his sourdough bread? I have a starter and bake bread and dog biskets often.
that is AMAZING your dad makes homemade pizza! i am so jealous!!! glad you enjoyed 3 pieces!!! 🙂
My dad’s chili is a must have! So good and perfect flavor not to spicy and not to mild I love it! Not to mention he uses turkey because I am not a fan of beef!
Homemade pizza is the best! And I’d love the sourdough bread recipe too 🙂
My parents are both good cooks and since i cannot eat gluten any longer i totally miss a lot of their things like chicken paprikash, thanksgiving stuffing, homemade rolls and pasta, and a good sandwich. Somehow no sandwich beats a sandwich your mom makes ? Glad you had a good time it looks so nice there !
I love all the things my mom cooks simply because I don’t have to cook 🙂 It also means I have wonderful company! I rarely get to be with my parents.
I love EVERYTHING my Dad cooks but especially his bread, apple dumplings, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, and my fave would HAVE to be his gravy – better than anything!! You’ve just made me want to get home for another visit very soon!! I’m glad you had a great time eating and being merry with your family!!
Homemade bread is the best! I love my parent’s homemade spaghetti. Hits the spot every time.
Your pictures look fantastic and so much good food! What camera do you use to take your pictures? Love your blog!
thank you! a combo of the iphone or nikon d3100 with a 50 mm lens when i use my DSLR.
Great! I’ll have to look into that. I’ve been working on improving my blog and spending more time on it and a good camera is definitely something I need to invest in.
