Look what finally happened in yoga yesterday!
I was taking class from one of my fellow teacher trainees and decided to try revolved bird of paradise when I was in crescent lunge with a twist. All previous attempts at this pose had resulted in a complete topple over so I was in shock when I went for it…and it finally happened! I stayed after class and made Adam take my picture. He kept asking me if I could straighten my standing leg but it was all I could do to stay in it and smile. Baby steps! 😉
This is one of the things that I love most about yoga. There is always somewhere else to take your practice…whether that is on a physical or mental level. My “new place for my practice” in 2012 is going to be meditation. (Sneak peek at 2012 goals!) Yesterday, it was finally getting revolved bird for the first time! Totally made my practice.
Are you sick of seeing this sandwich yet? I think it’s safe to say that the panini with cranberry sauce is my lunch of choice at the moment. This one featured baked tofu, spinach, avocado, cheese and cranberry sauce. I cook them in a cast iron skillet with a little bit of butter and kind of flatten them down with the spatula.
Our friends are in town from San Diego so a big group of us met out last night for pizza at Brixx. I started with a salad.
And then I split two different veggie pizzas with the girls. The Artichoke Pizza is my favorite at Brixx – herb-marinated artichokes, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, basil pesto and mozzarella.
We also tried the Pesto Portobello – basil pesto-marinated Portobello mushrooms with mozzarella, goat cheese and sliced roma tomatoes. It was okay but the Artichoke is still number one!
Pizza night is my favorite. Mmm…
On a less fun note, I am sick. I ended up taking a rest day today and subbing out some of my classes. Word on the street is that there is a bad cold going around. I will be very sad if I am sick on Christmas. 🙁
Feel better soon…that pose looks SO tough!
Love Brizz and thanks for the tip on the artichoke pizza.
try it, you’ll love!
Get to feeling better! Great job on the pose, that is a great accomplishment 🙂 Oh, I got my first pair of tights from Lululemon… and a jacket! I love love love them both!
so glad you like them. i am obsessed with the tights and the jackets…does it have thumbholes? that’s my fave! 🙂
Feel better soon!
Hi Jen! I hope you are getting some rest and feel better soon! Hope to see you around this week. If not, have a very Merry Christmas!
thanks diane! i’ll still be teaching at lulu on christmas eve. miss y’all!
Woo, way to go on that pose! That looks pretty intense.
I hope you feel better! I usually always get sick around Christmas so I’m hoping that this year it’ll spare me. 🙂
thanks so much alaina! i hope you’re getting more in the christmas spirit…and i hope you don’t get sick!!!
The word on the street is correct. Hope you get to feeling better and I’m proud of you for taking a rest break. I know that Brandon will do a great job nursing you back to health. We have some serious 62 catching up to do!
i hope you are finally feeling better too! i am so behind on the challenge. eek!
That’s a cool move. Birds of Paradise is my favorite move. Never tried it reverse, though!
thanks! it’s a crazy bind but fun to play with!
Way to go Jen! I am still fairly new to yoga, but have quickly fell in love with how much advancement is possible, and always will be.
Congrats on your yoga pose! I’m sorry to hear that you are sick. My kids have something and I can tell I’m fighting something off, and so far it is working.
Heard a new song tonight and it instantly grabbed my attention. The artist is Gotye and the song is “Someone I Used to Know”. Looks like his album was just released Dec 6. He had an album 5 years ago, but I’m not familiar with him. Maybe something new for you, but I think otherwise you are probably ahead of me in the music game. Based on you liking MMJ, Avett, and The Civil Wars, do you listen/like Band of Horses?
i am checking that song out now! definitely haven’t heard of so thanks for the recommendation. i LOVE band of horses. we’ve seen them live a few times. they are incredible.
Oh good. This Gotye guy seems to channel Sting in this song. BOH is one of my faves. I’m sure we have been at some of the same shows. Hope you are feeling better.
You look amazing in that pose! I got into seated Bird of Paradise last week and was so, so excited.
Pizza night is my favorite, too! 🙂
And I’m so impressed with your flexibility. I miss yoga! However, about those arms… what is the best move that you can do at home for killer arms? I’m hoping to get back to the gym soon, but until then…
at home with no equipment..body weight exercises like dips, push ups and triceps push ups.
Congrats, Jen! That pose looks like it requires a lot of skill! And I’m definitely not tired of seeing those sandwiches. In fact, you’ve inspired me to start making ones like that! Right now I’m just doing sliced granny smith apples and goat cheese since that’s what I have in my fridge, but I love the savory sweet combo.
that sounds like an awesome combo. i love anything with goat cheese!
Congrats on the pose…it looks super hard! I just managed to start doing regular old bird of paradise and am very excited about that 🙂
Hope you feel better soon and aren’t sick for Christmas, get lots of rest!
i am still trying to perfect my regular bird of paradise. so hard to stand up straight and straighten both legs! 😛
You rock for doing that pose! I hope you feel better soon!!
I love that sandwich! I’ve been meaning to ask you, if you have a homemade cranberry sauce that you would recommend. I need to use a bag of cranberries in my fridge. As for the yoga pose, such an awesome feeling, when you tackle a pose when you least expect it. It’s all about letting go and sometimes just doing it, without thinking too hard about it. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
