Greetings from I-85!
We are currently en route to Georgia for a wedding. The wedding is near the Georgia/Alabama boarder but we’re stopping tonight in Athens to visit friends and enjoy a night on the town.
I finished teaching for the day at 1:30 but before we hit the road lunch was a must. I had a hummus and avocado sandwich with cheddar, tomatoes and arugula.
So about that wedding…
One of Brandon’s roommates from college is getting married and they’re having the wedding on family land in the Georgia mountains. It’s going to be a really cool setup with beautiful scenery BUT the dress code is “dressy casual with cowboy boots optional.”
I have a closet full of cocktail dresses but not much that fits into “dressy casual/cowboy boots optional.” Now, what really complicates matters is the season. It’s that weird in between time where it will be 75 degrees when we get there but 50 by the time we leave. Tights or no tights? Open or closed toe shoes? Scarf and sweater?
I procrastinated on figuring out what I was going to wear until yesterday and after a shop through my closet, deemed this an appropriate time to purchase a new dress. Of course, I had no time to look for anything in Charlotte so I begged Brandon to let me stop at the Banana Republic outlet on the drive to Georgia.
He gave me 45 minutes and luckily they had some great options. I ended up going with a fitted short-sleeved black sweater dress. I said no to the belt. I just cannot get on board with belts around my dresses. I think they look silly on me.
I really like the dress and know that I will wear it all fall and into winter. I ended up getting a cute gold necklace and earrings to accessorize. Total cost for dress, necklace and earrings was around $65. Love the outlets.
I’m going to wear black tights and black booties. I brought multiple shoe options no knowing what I would end up with. Nothing like waiting until the drive down to a wedding to figure out what you’re wearing. Procrastination at its finest.
Have you ever had to assemble an outfit on the go? And does anyone else struggle with “shoulder season” dressing as much as I do!?
Reward for speedy shopping was a Starbucks stop. Iced coffee with soymilk and an oatmeal cookie.
Oh and the furry one is road tripping too! Couldn’t leave her behind. She’ll be staying with our friends in Athens and we’ll pick her up on our drive back Sunday.
Have a fabulous weekend!
I LOVE the Banana Republic outlet!! What a great deal for such a cute outfit! I think I need to make a trip there soon. 🙂
the one i went to had TONS of good stuff in stock right now. i think you should make a trip!
The Belt around the dress looks adorable on you! But I agree with you- not a look I am accustomed to sporting! What are those super cute black shoes you are wearing?
they are the tom’s wedges. SUPER comfy and cute!
Good call on the short sleeved sweater dress with tights. I LOVE wearing that combination! I can’t always find stuff at the Banana outlet… hit or miss for me.
it’s one of my favorite fall/winter dress combos too! this banana outlet was amazing. seriously, they had SO much in stock.
I think the belt looks adorable! But it won’t matter if you aren’t comfortable with it! I have this thing where I think any type of “shoe” (unless it’s a flat or sandals) looks weird on me…
Speaking of shoes, are those the Tom’s wedges?? Whatever they are, they are super cute!
they are the tom’s wedges. i’m obsessed. they’re so comfy.
just heard they are coming out with ballet flats in the spring. super excited!
That dress looks so good on your, Jen! I do like the belt too, but there’s no point in going with it if you’re uncomfortable. The BR outlet never disappoints!
thanks clara! i will have to suck it up and finally get a belt to wear with dresses this fall. broaden my fashion horizons a bit! 😉
I LOVE the belt with that dress, and you can definitely pull that off. Especially with that small waist of yours! Don’t think you can’t 🙂 But, if you’re not comfortable wearing it, then it’s not worth it! I can totally relate to those feelings with other clothing items! I think the black tights with booties option is perfect for fall!
courtney – thanks so much for the encouragement on the belt. i am going to have to take the plunge and get one to wear with my dresses this fall. sometimes you just need an outside opinion! 🙂
I would guess you think the belt looks weird because your natural waist is so high that it kind of looks like the belt is all the way up around your rib cage! I definitely struggle with shoulder season dressing, particularly for nicer occasions. Love that dress though.
