This post is going to be all baby so you have been warned!
Look who hit seven months yesterday! I love this age/stage that we’re in so much. Finn is so expressive and full of personality, babbling up a storm, playing a lot but not yet moving. I know that life is going to change significantly once he’s really mobile but I’m ready for it!
In the ongoing story of introducing solids, Finn’s favorite food is definitely bread/toast…haha. I can’t blame him. He loves for me to put toast strips on his tray and they go straight in his mouth. I’ve been putting butter or coconut oil on it, or serving it plain. I’ve done wheat bread, pita bread and this was my homemade sourdough. He loves it all. He doesn’t actually eat a lot of it but really enjoys gumming it.
This child is smart. If I try to give him something like a blueberry or a piece of banana, he clamps his mouth shut and turns his head. If I’m holding him and eating a cookie or a Reese’s, he grabs my hand and tries to put it in his mouth. (Obviously, I’m not letting him have it!)
I’ve received so many questions about what approach I’m taking. I’m not following any one approach…just kind of winging it and not pushing it…a mix of baby led weaning and I’ve tried purees. I just find baby led weaning to be so easy because I can give him little bits of what I’m eating.
I received so many recommendations to follow Feeding Littles on Instagram. It’s a great resource and I actually just bought their online course for baby led weaning. It was on sale today $15 off (using code 100KYAY) and I thought it would be a helpful resource and give me some good info, tips and ideas. I’ll be sure to circle back with a review.
I took Finn to see Santa yesterday!
We have the most legit Santa at our local mall. Finn was great with Santa and when I went to take him after the photo, Santa told me he was keeping Finn. He whispered to Finn that they could ride his Harley together and go fishing in his boat. Haha…some kind of sled, huh?
I’m going to keep it short and sweet today! Sending lots of love to all of you.
Tell me about your child’s first Santa visit? Go well or meltdown? Best Santa stories?
Adorable Santa photos! Finn is so happy and sweet.
I have a 10 month old and she really enjoys hummus spread on toast strips, or even purées on toast. You might try that sometime since Finn likes his bread. ?
You look so happy and extra beautiful lately btw!
Thank you so much for the hummus and puree tip! Great ideas!
And thank you, I am feeling a lot better. <3
We saw Santa at SouthPark yesterday too! Santa was so good with our little 2 week old. She just stared at him and didn’t make a peep.
Oh my goodness! How sweet!
Finn is ADORABLE! I, too, love this age.
Our sons (almost 7 years old now) were great on their visit with Santa at 10.5 months. . . until they got a full-on look at his face. HA! Then they started crying. Oh well. They held off long enough for us to get a decent photo of them with Santa and Mrs. Claus. 🙂
It’s been so amazing to watch you come into your own as a mother. It’s so clear that you’ve become very comfortable in that role and Finn is such a lucky little boy to have you! I love your laid back approach to having him try foods, after trying to be very by the book with my first child, I took a much more laid back approach with my second and she really enjoys food so much more than my oldest.
My 3 year old actually met Santa for the first time the other day at her preschool holiday party (we are jewish so we never took her on our own to see Santa) and she was terrified. We have the greatest picture of her in between her teacher and Santa, clinging to her teacher for dear life!
Happy Holidays!
Oh my goodness, his Santa pictures are the best!! So stinking cute! My son was not having it when I just took him haha he gave me the look like “get me out of here now mom!” as he clung to me to save him.
Have you tried any of the baby puffs that dissolve in their mouth? They also help with their hand coordination. I remember making a banana pancake/french toast sticks one morning for my son and he loved it. I think that was how I first got him to eat a banana plus he could just gum it so easily. Hope that helped some, I know I just winged it and still kinda am 18 months later!!
So adorable! Thank you for putting a big smile on my face!
Finn is at a great age! I loved this time too, right before they learn to crawl. (Though that’s fun too! It’s all fun when you are watching your own kid learn and grow, right?) Just had to click through and comment because those Santa photos are just THE SWEETEST. Merry Christmas to you!
Ok, I have loved your baby posts, even though that phase of my life is long-passed, but this one is really hit home. Finn is so darn cute and you look so happy! And the images with Santa bring back the fondest of memories of my two grown children. Thank you for sharing your life and for inspiring me to carry on and aim high! Merry, merry. Sarah Z.
He is just the cutest, sweetest baby boy! I’d literally eat his happy face all day! I’m sure you are! ???
Adorable pictures of Finn and Santa, so sweet.
The first time I took my older son to see Santa he was 4 months old. He was all dressed in his Christmas outfit and when I took him out of his car seat I noticed under his sweater (he was wearing layers) he had a major blowout. Well I didn’t have any backup holiday outfits so off to Santa it was (so sorry Santa) Jacob did great and was a happy baby. Right after that it was a bee line to the nearest bathroom. I really don’t think anyone knew except for me since he had on so many layers.
Last year was my seconds first christmas and he was only 2 months old and wasn’t phased by Santa, this year however he wanted nothing to do with him. I tried to hand him to Santa but he squirmed right out of his arms. I ended up taking the pic with both boys and everyone was happy lol Maybe he’ll change his mind about him next year.
