For a relaxing Saturday, I sure did manage to cram a lot in. The morning activities were healthy – running a 10K, a yoga practice and a visit to see a yoga friend who is a chiropractor/acupuncturist for some work on my back. The afternoon/evening activities were a little more indulgent!
Brandon and I had one of those rare Saturday afternoons with nothing planned. Since it was gray and cool outside, we decided to take a trip to Amelie’s.
Amelie’s is an independently owned coffee shop/cafe with incredible pastries and a fun, diverse clientele. It’s open 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year…and always slammed.
Brandon ordered a slice of strawberries and cream cake and I had a pumpkin cream cheese muffin. It pretty much tasted like a pumpkin cupcake with cream cheese frosting on the inside. We also ordered a pot of French press.
It was nice to hang out and chat. We brought our Scrabble game but ended up just talking the whole time. I know this sounds nerdy but it felt like such a treat to have a relaxed afternoon date.
We swung by the grocery on the way home to pick up the ingredients to make chicken chili. It was our first soup/chili dinner of the season. I had a bowl of chicken chili with a salad. I love this chicken chili recipe because it doesn’t include any cream. It’s thickened with bean puree. It’s healthy but hearty.
After dinner I left Brandon on the couch with football and headed Uptown to celebrate Nicole’s bachelorette!
Kelly was kind to host the pre-party and let a group of 12 girls invade her apartment. She provided apps and cocktails. I had a grapefruit/vodka martini with a salted rim. Refreshing!

Unfortunately, I didn’t take part in the matching t-shirt fun (read about the shirts and the story behind them here) because I was lame and didn’t hit the bars with the group. I teach a hot yoga class at 9:15 on Sunday mornings and it tends to limit my Saturday evening activities – I try to be in bed by midnight. It seems that missed out on a pretty memorable night out though!
My amazing friends took me to New York City for my bachelorette trip. Thankfully, they didn’t make me dress up but it does sound like fun! I hear that Nicole and the group got a lot of attention last night in their matching shirts.
Married ladies, did your friends dress you up for your bachelorette? Single ladies, have you been part of a group dress up for a bachelorette party?
Looks like a fun weekend!!! 🙂
No dressing up for me. My two rules were no coordinating outfits and I was not going to wear any phallic symbols. Ha! I was 30 though, so had my share of those shenanigans already for other friend’s parties!
christina – you sound just like me!!! i didn’t want any tiaras, sashes or dirty shirts. we just had a fun night out together!
sounds like fun!!! congrats on the race!!!
i love your outfit! it is definately getting chilly.. sweaters and jeans are a must!
not married yet but i went to a bachelorette party where there were shirts made and i did not like them- we did not wear them out but the next day. i think it is more fun to get dressed up in fun, a little sexy clothes just because that is what a bachelorette party is for!!
thanks hannah!
i agree, it’s fun just to get dressed up in “going out” clothes for a night on the town!
Love Amelie’s and their french press coffee. Have you tried the salted caramel brownie? I had a bachelorette party in Charlotte a few weeks ago without matching t-shirts but all the girls wore black dresses and the bride to be was dressed in white.
emily – i love their salted caramel brownie – it is to DIE for!
Never been to a bachelorette party yet! However, mine is this saturday!
sooooo exciting laura! have so much fun. what are you going to be doing!?
For my bachelorette weekend, some of my best girlfriends and I are headed to Vegas to run a half marathon! Last year we ran the race dressed in tutu’s and elf hats (we were Santa’s helpers) and I’m sure we’ll be wearing something equally ridiculous this year…think I can convince them to wear ugly bridesmaid dresses for 13.1 miles?
Great hot yoga class yesterday morning and I am already feeling some beautiful soreness from Bodypump today! That bicep track is KILLER (but I love the song).
Have a happy Monday!
i love that you are going to vegas to run the half. that will be such a great mix of healthy/fun. i’ve never run a race dressed up but it looks like so much fun. the ugly bridesmaids dress idea is killer. butt bows are a must. 😉
thanks for being in class the last couple of days. i cannot even hang with that bicep track. it is seriously tough!!! i am feeling pretty sore myself from a weekend full of yoga and class today.
have a great week!
There is nothing better than a laid back afternoon date w/ the Mister. We are long overdue! We had one planned for yesterday but the in-laws showed up unannounced. Gotta love their spontaneity… 🙂
Love the Honey Badger shirts! That is hilarious! I wore a veil and tiara but that was about it. There was a game but I ended it early b/c I just couldn’t handle the embarrassment!
mmm…nothing like a surprise in law visit. hope you had a good afternoon though.
the honey badger shirts were ridiculous (as is that youtube video). and i hear you on the game…sometimes i just can’t even believe the topics that come up at bachelorette parties!
I had the sash and bachelorette shirt for my party. Nothing phallic though; couldn’t do that! My shirt was a check list for things to be done throughout the night. It wasn’t completed. And that was fine by me. The next morning my cousin brought us donuts and coffee. 🙂
That coffee shop looks like my kind of place! I don’t think 3 days in Charlotte is going to be enough! Haha.
Did not dress up special for my bach. I didn’t want the attention of 40-year old nasty, drunk dudes!
I really just wanted to dance that night but turns out the club was lame. That’s what happens when you try to party in a small town. Ha!
great point holly, smart thinking! that is always so creepy.
boo that the dancing didn’t turn out like you hoped! you were a beautiful bride though! 🙂
