Happy Wednesday! (Is it just me or does the term “Hump Day” kind of creep you out?) This short week is flying by. I need it to slow down a bit! I sound like a broken record but my days have been devoted to getting ready for the opening of our new location – things like preview workouts, the grand opening party and building the website. The site is taking the bulk of my time (and consumes my thoughts) but I’m having a lot of fun with it.
Check out the latest development over at Metro CrossFit – wall murals! How awesome are these silhouettes that we had painted behind the racks? In other CrossFit news, last night’s workout was amazing. Maybe one of my favorites yet!
The board looks a little confusing but here is what we did…
– 2 minutes of AbMat sit ups, as many reps as possible
– 2 minutes of push ups, as many reps as possible
– 5 strict hang pull ups (I used a thin band)
x 3 rounds
Rest for 1 minute, THEN…
– 3 minutes of burpees while holding dumbbells, as many reps as possible (just one round of this)
The workout was scored rather than timed. I love scored workouts, especially when they are multiple rounds and require keeping track of your score with chalk. I am really competitive with myself and like to try to maintain a constant effort throughout the rounds. Last night I made myself do 50 push ups in each 2 minute set. Sit ups varied a little. I was able to squeeze in about 40 burpees at the end but I lost count at one point so I was conservative with my number. Call me crazy but burpees are my favorite. Holding dumbbells while doing them was even more fun! 🙂
My total score was 374 reps for the workout! I was super happy with that.
I went to Which Wich for lunch today. If you’re not familiar with Which Wich, it’s a built-to-order sandwich chain. You pick up a bag when you walk in and fill out all of your choices for your sandwich. They have tons of topping and sauce options. Once you complete your bag you take it to the register and pay. They send your bag through the line and you pick up your sandwich at the end. This is heaven for an indecisive person like me because I can take my time filling it out rather than being rushed through the line.
Today’s selection was turkey, pepper jack, honey mustard, light mayo, banana peppers, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, black olives, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and oregano toasted on wheat. Yummm!
Polka Dot Bake Shop is in the same shopping center as Which Wich. That, of course, meant that there was no chance of me making it out of lunch without a cupcake. I split a key lime cupcake and it was so very delicious and worth the random Wednesday afternoon splurge. Cupcakes are always worth the splurge.
Off to run and teach some yoga. Have a great evening!
Awesome workout!! Sounds super tough. And now I want a sandwich and cupcake 🙂
I LOVE WHICH WICH….well I did when I still ate bread 🙁 However, we do go there everytime we visit my parents and Jake is with me! Such versatility!
Also, the new gym is looking quite nice! Can’t wait to see your progress! Gymnastic focused days are my favorite, but I’m sure you can guess why! Once you’re all settled in, you’ll find yourself out on the floor wanting to learn new lfits/etc and practice all the different movements assocaited with CF.
Enjoy!!!
we did Helen today. I was glad to have a workout I love because we have been hammered with max efforts all week with 30 min time caps = puke sessions. Are you teaching yoga at Metro? I think I’m getting confused. I just started teaching yoga at our box…wondering how many two a day workers you get in yoga from the Wod? Friday I had large classes but my morning class (first one) only pulled three.
hey there – i am the general manager at metro. our first location is a gym that offers crossfit and our new location will be more of a traditional crossfit box. i also teach some circuit training classes and a couple of yoga classes here when i have time. i still teach a few classes at the hot studio too.
at the gym, i get more people that just come for yoga than that come from crossfit. my tuesday night class is after the WOD and sometimes i get a couple.
“happy humpday” drives me crazzzzy! It just sounds dirty…
Your sandwich on the other hand looks phenomenal!
I love Wich Wich!
I have a question, who keeps track of the time and reps and weights during your CF workout?
you cant lie to yourself, so you do.. the coach makes sure you do it right and corrects it
Hahaha I’ve always though the whole “hump day” thing was just plain weird! 😉
Totally agree….”hump day” creeps me out! Love Which Wich; I can’t wait for the new location to open in the Metropolitan Builiding!! Your workout sounds very tough, but awesome! Burpees with weights….not sure I could do it, but love the idea 🙂
I am with you on the hump day creepiness! My mom used to say it when she woke me up on Wednesday mornings and I would just give her a roll of the eyes. 🙂
That is so cool that the gym is coming along so well! All of these crossfit posts are really making me consider joining.
those murals are amazing!!!
i haven’t had which wich in over a year. so jealous!!!! My favorite is Potbelly’s. Do y’all have those?
Great murals, I’m with you on “hump day” (shudder), and I LOVE that workout – I think I’ll do it tomorrow! Looks like a great, total body burn and I am a similar woman to you – love burpees! Never tried them with DBs before so that will be a great challenge. How heavy did you go on those DBs for the burpees? I’m assuming rather light for good form? Just curious because I’d love to do this tomorrow. 😉 Have a great night, Jen!
the rx was 15 lbs but all the dumbbells were taken so i used 10. you don’t take them overhead when you jump, just hold them at your sides. it was really awesome!
Got it – thanks for responding, Jen!
3 minutes of burpees …. with weights?
:::blasphemy!:::
That workout sounds awesome, but tough! I love counting rep exercises too! Seems less daunting that way. I also hate the term hump day 😉 definitely a little creepy
What does your husband do to keep in shape? Do you find that it’s hard to work out together? I go to a boot camp type class that my husband joined me at once and hated it…and honestly, I did too because I kept worrying about him the whole time! So, I guess my question is, any ideas for couples, especially when one is a little more motivated to exercise regularly (ahem, me) and one is not?
