I’m slowly recovering from yesterday’s 20-miler. The first step was ice bath, hot shower and food. The second step involved me sitting on the couch from 2:30-7:30 p.m. without moving. I blogged, watched Grey’s Anatomy and ate peanut butter chocolate chip bars. It was glorious.ย Around 6:30 my legs said, “beer me.”
I had a Terrapin Pumpkinfest while I blogged about the Pumpkin Apple Muffins on Bakin’ and Eggs. This is by far my favorite seasonal beer yet this Fall.
Brandon asked what was for dinner and I informed him that I was NOT cooking. We decided to go to our favorite casual restaurant for dinner, Lebowskis. I forgot my camera but I always order the same thing so here’s an old picture.
Veggie panini on sourdough with garlic fries. I don’t eat fries often but when I do Lebowski’s garlic fries are IT. Yum!
I came home and crashed. Despite my exhaustion, I did not sleep well last night. Every time I rolled over my hips and legs groaned in protest and I thought to myself, I can’t believe I have to get up in “X” hours to teach BodyPump. I really, really should have gotten a sub for my class because it was not good for my muscle recovery to teach this morning. I made it through class but it wasn’t pretty. I don’t even know how I taught squats – I think I was on autopilot because one of my regulars told me after class that I was energetic and on. Glad I could pull that off!
When I got to the Y I realized that I was starving and there was no way I would make it through class without something in my stomach (I usually don’t eat before class because it’s soooo early). I grabbed a banana from the snack bar and inhaled it. After class I had a big bowl of apple cinnamon oatmeal.
I was craving eggs for lunch today.
I made an omelet with two eggs, spinach, sundried tomatoes, leftover diced roasted acorn squash and sharp white cheddar. A piece of toast on the side. And then an unpictured peanut butter chocolate chip bar. ๐
I really hit the wall at work around 3:30. I was completely exhausted and felt like I could fall asleep at my desk. I had to get up and walk around to wake myself up and get my body moving. I made it through the last bit of work and came home for a night of relaxation.
I cooked a great dinner tonight thanks to inspiration from the amazingly talented Emily (cannot wait to see you in DC soon!!!).
Emily posted Thai Green Curry as her entry for round two of Project Food Blog (vote for her!) and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. Green curry is probably my favorite Thai dish and it’s been too long since I’ve made it.
My curry included tofu, eggplant, red peppers, snow peas, coconut milk and lots and lots of green curry. We both decided we were more in the mood to have this over rice instead of rice noodles. It was so good. I went back for seconds and am super excited about the leftovers.
How do you recover from tough workouts? This 20-miler has really done a number on me. I can’t believe how physically exhausted I am! (And hungry!!!)
Haha, nice that your legs said “beer me”. I am always hungrier the day after a long run than I am the day of the long run. It’s so weird. I can eat more food than normal, but out of no where hunger will strike and I need to eat right away!
Yum! Looks great! Thanks for the vote ๐
Stay positive and take care of your body! I try to recover from hard workouts the next day with a walk with my dog, a good stretch, and a steam room. Steam rooms cure ALL! I used to take a 15 minute steamer after every workout in my old gym and LOVED it! As for the hunger issues, I have found that consuming more on the day of the hard workout will curb the hunger pains that can go nuts the following day. I know it differs for each person, but might as well experiment and see what works! Good luck recovering and these food photos look awesome! ๐
So excited to find your blog! You will rock your marathon. I a 20 on Saturday today and ran 4 today and was definitely still sore. Hopefully by Saturday I will be ready to go again.
