Good morning! Missed y’all yesterday but there was just no time to post. It seems like the homemade granola bar post was well-received and several of you reported already making a batch. Let me know how they turned out if you did!
My Tuesday started with the decision to ignore my alarm at 6 a.m. to go to yoga and sleep until 8. It was nice to sleep in and have coffee and breakfast at a relaxed pace but part of me really wished I would have practiced. Ultimately, I think my body needed the rest more so I got over it. I arrived at Metro around 9:15 and worked for a few hours before breaking for lunch.
I made an open faced tempeh sandwich for lunch but mixed up the toppings a little bit. I did honey mustard, spinach, tempeh, cherry tomatoes, banana peppers and pepper jack cheese on 9-grain bread. I really like banana peppers on sandwiches and I totally forgot that I even had them in the fridge. On the side I had Wholesome Goodness Sea Salt Multigrain Crisps (which taste a lot like Sun Chips but healthier), apple slices and carrots/red peppers/tomatoes.
After lunch I taught my weekly private yoga class to the crew from the Charlotte Hounds. It was especially fun because one of the players practiced with us. It was only his second time doing yoga but he was great!
I spent the rest of the afternoon at the club in meetings and teaching. I did manage to squeeze in a workout before my evening class. It is so warm here this week so I snuck out for a quick run and covered about 3.5 miles.
Our new Director of CrossFit started on Monday so we went out to dinner at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar with the owners of the club after we all finished classes/work for the day. My intent heading into dinner was to get a black bean burger on top of a salad but once I arrived a burger and beer sounded better. I was really craving protein and not from a black bean burger so I ordered The Frenchie which is a turkey burger with brie and apples. I still got my veggies in with a side salad. Win, win! ๐
When I finally got home I was exhausted and couldn’t do any more work so the blog was put on hold in favor of hanging out with a pup who was equally as exhausted.
While I was working, Sullie was summiting Crowder’s Mountain! She was pretty worthless for the rest of the night.
I was up at the crack of dawn this morning to teach a 6:30 yoga class at Metro…but no one came. We just started offering yoga and so far the early morning classes haven’t really taken off. I worked for a bit before digging into overnight oats.
There is much to be done today…including motivating myself to workout. We just posted this video on the Metro YouTube channel of a CrossFit WOD from a couple of months back that I’m using as inspiration.
50 air squats
40 lunges
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 burpees
20 pushups
30 sit ups
40 lunges
50 air squats
I’m going to make myself do this workout and sandwich it between a one-mile run before and after.
Have a good day! Be productive!ย
The video is great… our CF box just made one and it is very inspiring too! You should give “Murph” a try– ask the CF coach there to tell you about that WOD!
we have murph on our hero wall and i am scared of it! i am going to try a half murph first! ๐
I’ve been to Big Daddy’s in Charlotte, and I hope to get back SOON! It’s delicious.
Sullie looks quite regal:)
Ha, sometimes a burger is just the thing! I haven’t wanted any meat in a couple weeks… until the other night when I just *had* to have a buffalo burger. And it was awesome.
Sullie is SO CUTE. I always say that when you post Sullie pics. But she is!
Love the workout, I need to try it!
And yes, sometimes we can all just use a burger ๐ I’m a huge fan of listening to what my body wants ๐
If I lived there, I would be at your 6:30 a.m. class!! Early morning is the BEST time to practice yoga – it is such an incredible way to start your day. Your food always looks so delicious and so incredibly well balanced. You are truly an inspiration!!
aw, thanks! morning is my favorite time to practice too. love starting my day on my mat.
Love the workout video…adding that to my productive day! Thanks for sharing ๐
Even though I really don’t eat meat, I’ve found myself craving a big, juicy burger on my marathon long run days. When I give in, I try to make sure it’s a local burger. I guess my body really needs the protein/iron from red meat!
i RARELY eat red meat so when i crave it, i usually eat it because i figure that it’s for a reason.
That looks like a fun (and sweaty) workout! I’ll have to give it a try. ๐
I gave up meat for lent and I am CAH-RAVING a burger right now!! Is it April 8th yet??
i know, hang strong! so impressed by your meatless lent!
I totally agree. Burgers are good ๐
I love(d) Big Daddy’s Burger Bar when I lived in CLT for a brief time! Great & fresh ingredients!
Completed my 1st parter WOD at Crossfit w/ my husband today! We shared all of the reps of 33!
33 Pull-ups with band
400 meter Run
33 Box jumps, 20″
400 meter Run

400 meter Run
33 Burpees
400 meter Run
33 Sumo deadlift high pull, (not Rxd – 45)

What a fun WOD! I have never done one of the partner workouts but they sound great…especially if you do it with a friend or loved one!
I wish I had a morning yoga class to go to, especially during finals week! That body-weight WOD sounds great, I’ll have to bookmark it for someday when I’m low on time.
Oh. My. Goodness. I tried this workout – I thought I was going to die (in the best possible way). No way I could run before and after! Guess I have a long way to go! I couldn’t finish all the reps by the end, but I’m inspired to get strong enough be able to complete the whole thing. Woohoo for new goals!
yay! i’m glad that you tried it and thanks for giving me feedback on it. it’s awesome to have fitness goals to work towards and to be able to see your progress!
SouNds like a great day!! I love burgers..especially turkey burgers..I make some with fresh cranberries and apples..soo yummy.
turkey burgers with apples and cranberries sound great!
i edited your comment. i tried to email you but it was returned as undeliverable.
Yeah! They’re great! The cranberry and apple keep the lean turkey really moist!
That’s strange! I’ve been having trouble with that email address :(…try my other one (I used it for this comment!)
Sorry for the hassle! Have a great day!
With a burger offered like that, I would have taken it as well…even the side salad looks delicious!!! Just so you know, you have totally inspired me to be more active every day. I joined a gym, when I take my kids to the park I do some strength exercises on the equipment instead of parking it on a bench. Now, I just need to clean up my eating a bit!!
I’ve been wanting to try Big Daddy’s for over a year now, but I manage to always talk myself out of it. I think it’s about time to bite the bullet! ๐
I love that you’re not paleo and a CrossFitter and that you do yoga! My dream is to quit my day job to train in CrossFit and learn to teach yoga – I’m working on that dream. ๐
i don’t think i could ever go paleo. i definitely go through cycles where i try to up my protein and reduce my gluten/dairy intake but i can never sustain it. i prefer to do a balanced diet focused on clean foods! LOVE your dream! ๐
