Since August is almost over (how did that happen!?), it’s time for your August Workout Playlist + a super sweaty, super challenging tabata workout to go with it!
I posted this tabata workout on Instagram stories on Saturday morning and was flooded with requests to turn it into a blog post with a graphic…so here we are!
This was my first post-baby HIIT workout and it felt great. I owe y’all a postpartum fitness post. It’s been all over the place. There was one week I ran four times…then I didn’t run again for almost two weeks. I’ve made it to the gym a couple of times…and then there was this driveway workout. Most days I just walk.
That’s another post for another day. Let’s get to the details of this workout. The best thing about it is that you can do it at home with no equipment and it’s quick…just 24 minutes total of work but you will probably want to rest a minute between rounds. Even still…you’ll be done in 30 minutes!
I am REALLY appreciating the home workouts as an option with baby on board! 🙂
SUMMER TABATA WORKOUT
Here’s a post I wrote about tabata training 101. Please start there if you are not familiar with tabata intervals. It’s very helpful!
Each tabata interval has eight rounds of 20 seconds of work. You rest 10 seconds between each round. Each interval will take you four minutes total. You will alternate between the two exercises listed for each interval in this workout, so you’ll do each exercise a total of four times.
If jumping is not your thing, this workout CAN be modified to take the jumping out! It will still be very challenging.
SUMMER TABATA WORKOUT VIDEO
This is not a high tech video because I pulled it from what I filmed for IG stories but it gets the job done to demo the movements!
AUGUST WORKOUT PLAYLIST
I decided to go back into the archives for this playlist. There’s a little bit of everything!
Do you workout at home? If so, is it because you like to or because it’s what works with your schedule/current life demands?
So glad you posted this! I have a 4 year old and 1 year old and work from home a couple days a week. I just didn’t have time to get to the gym today and went to your insta hoping this workout might be posted on highlights!
Jen + Readers- What apps do yall use for these? I used to use the tabata pro app, but it doesn’t work with the new iterations of iPhones. I don’t trust myself or my math well enough to use a stopwatch.
I was wondering the same thing!
I work out mostly at home. I started for financial reasons and because we moved into a larger house and have more space. But I’ve kept it up because it’s so much easier with my schedule to just head to the basement in the morning. I use a lot of online videos like fitnessblender, though sometimes I just turn on music and make up my own workout.
The only thing I really miss is the social aspect of yoga classes, etc. I might buy some class passes to a local studio for that aspect.
Gosh, I would love to have a dedicated home workout space. That sounds awesome! I think I would workout a lot more at home if I had a room that was my “gym.” It can sometimes feel a little weird trying to workout in the middle of where the dogs usually play or in the driveway!
I do both. As a trainer, sometimes the last thing I want to do after training clients is stay at the gym to get my workout in. On those days, I go home and do something there, or take a break and then go to a different gym. If I have a client who cancels at the last minute, I sometimes use that time to get my workout in at the gym. I love the workouts you post and use them for myself fairly often – can’t wait to try this one!
I can TOTALLY relate to wanting a change of scenery as someone who works in the fitness industry! I used to also use late-cancels to get my own workout in…but rarely wanted to stay after a string of clients to do my own workout! Thanks for using my workouts! 🙂
Thank you for this workout! I work at home because it’s cheaper and it works best with my schedule. I really struggle to find a workout class that is compatible with my schedule. I’m always looking for more workouts to change things up at home, so I’m thrilled to try this one. I’ve done several Tabata workouts before and I enjoy them. Thanks for the great workout inspo!
You are so welcome!
I loved this! Tabata 3 and 6 we’re the hardest for me but 6 was my favourite. Thanks for the quick sweat session
You are so welcome! Thanks for trying it!
Did this workout this week (my third postpartum workout) and it kicked my butt. Thanks, Jen. I don’t typically like working out a home either but I don’t want to be too far from my four month old just yet. I am going back to work next week and can’t imagine being away longer than the workday (though I am sure I will adjust and get back to the gym itself at some point!).
