Good morning and happy Monday! I hope that your day is off to a positive start.
Mine is off to a sore start. I did another ashtanga practice at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday with David Keil. My practice felt really good and I was happy that after a long hiatus from ashtanga that I was still able to pretty much pick up where I left off with all of the binding postures, jump backs and jump throughs and backbends. Although I was able to do everything, it left me so sore. My hamstrings, lats and shoulders are killing.
It was so nice to practice with a new teacher. I picked up some great tips on two things that I have been struggling with for over a year so I’m excited to put those tips to the test and see if I can make some improvement. One goal I have for the year is to broaden my yoga horizons. I want to participate in more trainings and workshops.
After a quick nap in savasana (passed out for at least 15 minutes…blissful!), I was on my way to Y2 to teach the 9:15 hot class. I decided to wait and eat after class so I could make Sunday brunch so I picked up a strawberry banana smoothie from Starbucks to hold me over. It was refreshing after practice.
I was craving eggs so I made an open faced sandwich with hummus, avocado, scrambled eggs, spinach and white cheddar. Grapes, oranges and blue corn chips on the side.
Dinner was kind of a repeat of brunch…bread, spinach and cheese. What can I say? I am a creature of habit and always have the same staples on hand. Do you find yourself using the same combinations of food a lot? I have a rotation of staple foods/meals that I repeat in some form all of the time. It’s just so easy.
Pita pizza with homemade pita bread from the freezer, marinara sauce, tofu, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, mozzarella and Italian seasoning. The pita made for the perfect pizza crust.
Today is already off to a busy start. I launched the new BodyPump this morning (review to come) and now Sullie and I are working in a coffee shop (love that they’re pet friendly!). The blog update is fun work but I’m about to start working on tax stuff for a meeting with our accountant today. Bleh.
Have a WONDERFUL week!
oh my goodness – where is a coffee shop that lets you bring pets??? I have 2 boxers that would LOVE that!
fabo on selwyn. it’s a coffee shop and art gallery. love it!
Yummy looking food, and I love your purple nail polish! What color is that?
I definitely have the same foods I tend to rotate as well. Your breakfast sandwich looks delish…I might have to make that for lunch today. I’m getting certified to teach body pump in a few weeks. Any tips for a newbie?
I’m completely the same way, especially for my snack foods. Once I find a staple that works, I just like the ease of relying on it time and again (assuming it’s healthy). I read somewhere that people who have food ‘routines’ are generally healthier because they are usually eating to get certain minerals and vitamins and rely on their routines to get an adequate amount. I have no idea if there is any validity to that, but I’m willing use it to justify some of my sameness every week to my husband ๐
I definitely eat the same food combos! Hey, I know what I like ๐
Can’t wait to hear your review of the new bodypump release! My gym is still on 80.
oh – we just launched 80! we’re a little behind ๐
they haven’t sent out 81 yet!
It’s funny you say that because I thought my regular gym was always a little behind! Occasionally I take pump at gym near my office and there’s one teacher who always teaches new releases I swear like 3-4 weeks before my normal gym even launches a release. I just assumed we were behind but she must learn the choreagraphy as soon as she gets it!
Can’t wait to hear what you think of 80. I think the chest track is really challenging. After three weeks I can finally do it without too much trouble! I like the end of the lunge track too with the bodyattack like moves. The new bodystep release also has bodyattackish plyometric moves to make it more challenging. i just love les mills classes, they’re so effective! ๐
It’s so interesting to read about your Ashtanga practice. I have done Ashtanga a bit, but not regularly enough to fall in love with it. There’s a class at my YMCA that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00AM, and I think you have just provided me enough motivation to actually wake up and go. So thanks for that!
It’s so funny because I’m in the middle of yoga teacher training but I’m also going to school to be an accountant. I’m an enigma what can I say! hope you’re having a great day:) I just went to a work shop with two amazing baptiste instructors and my lats were in so much pain when I foam rolled; I know how you feel.
Pita pizzas are the best–they give a fun twist to classic pizza!
My tax documents are sitting on the table and I passed by them this morning and cringed–I told myself I’ll start March 1 so that I don’t have to think about it yet…it’s going to be extra tricky this year since I’ll have my husband’s taxes to add to the mix for the first time. Hopefully it isn’t too confusing with us both being freelancers.
I just started reading and I must comment that your backbend series was beautiful! I love wheels and handstands (makes sense since I used to do gymnastics) and now I’m excited to try working on tick-tocks!
Our gym just started 80 about 2 weeks ago. I’m really loving the new lunges!! I think the shoulder track is tough!
We launched 80 and CXWORX 5 Jan 7 and I find that 80 is pushing the physical limitations of both the instructor and the participant. Tough love! Brothers of iron, sisters of steel… ๐
Love your nail polish! So cute!
LOVE your hair and I am so glad you are taking some time for yourself and a new workshop. I adore workshops. Every time Seane Corn comes to DC I am the first to sign up. I know you said you have been stressed lately and I hope that things can get a bit easier for you. I am so grateful for your blog and your positive, lovely posts. You have inspired me so much!
I know that in my own life, even the most wonderful change can be hard, especially in my closest relationships. It’s often those closest to us who notice change last or who like it least. And change is also new and a little scary. I am hoping for lots of comfort for you in 2012 and ease – both of which you brought me in this past year and each time I visit here. Thank you!!
