Well, after five hours of tailgating in 96 degree weather and spending way too much money on a ticket, things didn’t turn out so well for the Dawgs. Was it worth it? Totally. A day spent in red and black, hanging out with friends and cheering on UGA is always a good day in my books.
Since it was an 8 p.m. kickoff our group decided to meet for lunch at Taco Mac before heading to the Dome to tailgate in order to beat the midday heat. I went with a veggie quesadilla. I washed my meal down with a G2 in an attempt to hydrate for the long afternoon ahead.
We arrived at the Dome around 3 p.m. and got right to work setting up tents. It was intensely hot out and we were all dripping in sweat for the majority of the afternoon.
The girls spent our time chatting and catching up while the boys pretty much loved acting like they were in college again…
There were a few beers shot gunned and a lot of tailgating games played.
I was excited to receive a Tweet from Taylor that he was working the tailgate for his new site, Taylor Tailgates. You have to check it out. He’s attending 14 college football games this year and blogging about tailgates, recipes and college towns. Really fun idea. Plus, his photography is just amazing.
Finally, it was game time! Georgia played Boise State and they are the #5 ranked team in the country so we were definitely underdogs going in.
Sadly, the Bulldogs were unable to pull off and upset but we still had a good time at the game. Sometime during the first half I ate a cold, smushed Chick-Fil-A sandwich out of the depths of my purse. They were giving them out for free at the tailgate so I smuggled one in knowing that dinner options in the stadium would be less than stellar. I have to admit that my cold sandwich was pretty delicious…which may or may not have had something to do with having several beverages at the tailgate. 😉
We finally made it home around midnight last night, showered and crashed. I slept for NINE hours and we spent the day hanging out with my parents. We planned to stay in Atlanta tonight but there’s a tropical depression rolling in that’s supposed to drench the south in rain. We decided to get on the road back to Charlotte to avoid traveling in monsoons and Labor Day traffic tomorrow although I really wanted to stay another night to hang out with my parents and our friends.
Hope you guys are enjoying your long weekend! (And that your team won yesterday!) Sounds like Monday is going to be a rainy one for a lot of us.
Bummer that your fav team did not win,I honestly go to sporting events to have a good time with my friends, I am clueless as to what is actually going on!
Sounds like a fun weekend! I always loved tailgating, but never the actual games in college haha. I don’t think that I actually attended a football game in my last two years at UVA. Though I think it would be pretty fun to go back and do it now.
