I first posted this “Currently” survey-style blog post back in October 2014 after seeing it on my friend Teri’s blog. I came across the old post a couple of weeks ago and put it in the queue for a redo.
So here’s the 2017 edition!
CURRENTLY…
MAKING: plans to visit my grandmother very soon. I haven’t seen her since Mother’s Day weekend and a visit is past due!
COOKING: some great old favorites lately…including spiced chicken, my maple apple spice cake, easy coconut green curry, all the kale salad and all the rice. I have fallen in love with white rice again over the last couple of years and can’t get enough!
DRINKING: at this very moment chamomile tea. I’m so excited that it’s tea season again and I’ve been enjoying 2-3 cups per day. Here’s a list of my favorite hot teas!
READING: the book on my bed stand is Truly, Madly, Guilty. Next up will be Before We Were Yours (can’t wait!). The book on my Audible app is WomanCode.
WANTING: to redecorate our living room. Luckily I have a friend and fellow yoga teacher who knows a thing or two about interior design so I’m recruiting her to help. I’m like “give me three options and make me pick one.” Apparently, I need to make a Pinterest board of living room styles I like to give her a jumping off point so we’ll see how that goes.
LOOKING: to continue to strengthen my meditation practice. I’m so on and off the wagon with it and I want to make it stick.
WASTING: too much time worrying about things I can’t control.
WISHING: I could talk to my brother. The first anniversary of his passing is next week. I’m anxious about it and I’ve been missing him a lot lately.
ENJOYING: having my mom in Charlotte for the week! (So is Sullie. She LOVES my mom!)
WAITING: as long as I can to wash my hair. I had it cut and colored last Thursday and I always try to milk those blow outs for as long as possible. This one is really hanging in there and I’m barely greasy on day 5! (This dry shampoo is bomb.)
LIKING: the way running is feeling again now that I remember how good it feels to run in lower humidity and cooler temps! I did almost 5 miles at an 8:30 pace this morning and it was a breath of fresh air.
WONDERING: how in the world the people in the Caribbean are going to rebuild from Hurricane Irma. The devastation on some of the islands is mind blowing.
LOVING: this cozy Athleta wrap cardigan that I have on right now. It’s so soft and I predict I’ll wear it all fall and winter long. I am also OBSESSED with the Lululemon Align Pants. I have the crops in two colors and I’m also going to get full length leggings for winter. They are seriously the most comfortable leggings I’ve ever owned.
HOPING: to visit the Chinese Lantern Exhibit at the Danielle Stowe Botanical Gardens with my mom before she leaves.
MARVELING: over the female body. Seriously y’all, this gift we were given is incredible.
NEEDING: to pay my quarterly taxes and also to take care of some other not so fun admin and adult things. One involves a trip to the DMV I’ve been putting off. Setting a goal for myself to get all this stuff done and off my shoulders in the next 10 days.
SMELLING: a Bath & Bodyworks 3-wick fall candle. They are so crazy fragrant.
WEARING: new slippers! My mom and I went shopping today and I finally decided just to get a $30 pair of Isotoners at Belk and call it a day. They’re super cozy, have a hard sole and will definitely get me through this season. They’re similar to this pair but a lighter tan and a different pattern across the front. They might not be super fashionable but I was like, “who is really going to see me in these at home?” Comfort (and budget!) wins!
FOLLOWING: so many amazing and inspiring women online. Where do I even begin…here’s a short list to get you started: Leslie Ann, Brittany, Julie, Erin, Diana, Gina, Ashley L, Annie, Finley, Kendra, Megan, Bess, Tessa, Ashley, Teri, Lina and many more.
NOTICING: how much I am truly not in control and that the more I loosen my grip on trying to be, the more things flow in such a better and more positive way.
KNOWING: that you guys will love this beer braised slow cooker chicken recipe that I developed for the Charlotte Agenda. The story came out last week.
THINKING: that I would like to do some strategic thinking and planning about my blog direction for 2018 and also what it might look like to launch online training/coaching in the new year. A facelift/redesign is in order for my blog and I really want to start working with a handful of women for online coaching.
FEELING: many, many paradoxical emotions. Happiness, sadness, joy, anxiety, excitement, regret…the list goes on.
BOOKMARKING: so many things thanks to the Facebook and Instagram save features. I love them!
OPENING: up my new refurbished October 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro to work on it for the first time tonight! I just got a and I’m in love! It’s so lightweight (only 3 pounds) and it has the new touch bar technology. I decided to go with a refurbished laptop after reading that they are basically brand new, completely rebuilt and go through extremely rigorous US testing. My new MacBook looks 100% new and you would never know it was a refurb!
GIGGLING: over this piece on Fitspo because it’s the TRUTH! Eat the damn cookie and savor every bite!
YOUR TURN!
What are you…
Drinking?
Marveling?
Wasting?
Smelling?
Giggling?
Silly question….do you wash your hair after every workout? I just had my hair coloured and am trying to preserve the colour but I can’t not wash my hair. Cue a major dilemma LOL!!
Hey Kat! No!!!! If I blow my hair straight I usually wash it every 3 days or so. Between workouts I just freshen up with dry shampoo and run the blow/dryer straightener back through it. If I wear my hair culy/wavy I don’t get as much leverage out of it and do have to wash every day because I can’t brush it when it’s curly so it ends up a mess of frizz after a workout.
drinking – hot tea and peach vodka. not together of course 🙂
marveling – how much anxiety i have over the stacks and stacks of papers i have to go through at home and at work. recently bought a house and there is just so much paper somehow ?
wasting – to much time on social media
smelling – the ranch on my salad as i eat and read your blog on my lunch break 🙂
giggling – how silly i look in a business suit and tennis shoes when i went out for a quick walk around the block today at work. i cant believe i’m “that girl”. i should have a black bar over my eyes in a magazine. LOL
love your hot tea and vodka drinking combo! haha. love ranch dressing. i think we all spend too much time on social media. ahhhhh.
I can’t believe it’s almost a year since your brother’s passing. The anniversary of my mother’s passing always stirs up emotions, even when I’m not thinking about it consciously. I’ll find myself more angry than usual or more emotional and will have to stop and figure out what’s going on and BOOM, I realize it’s close to my mother’s passing anniversary or her birthday, etc. My thoughts are with you.
Hi Joy – I know. Time goes so quickly. You are so right that there’s just an energy around these types of things that affects you even when you aren’t consciously thinking of it. I appreciate the thoughts and words you shared.
The second anniversary of my brothers passing was in August. Its ao hard to not wonder how things could have been different if he was here. Doesn’t get easier but i hope as I hope for my own brother that he is at peace. Go easy with your self!
Hey Kerri – I am sorry to hear that you had a recent anniversary recently as well. It is difficult not to wonder what if on so many different levels but yes, praying for peace.
As for the Lulu Align Pants/Crops, have you tried sweaty workouts in them? Do they show sweat? Or do you wear them just for you and leisure wear? 🙂
I’m not sure if I’ve worn them for a serious workout or hot yoga since I tend to wear shorts for that this time of year. I’ll let ya know when I do!
I’ve never bought a refurbished item from Apple but that’s not a bad idea — I might have to consider that for my next purchase!
I am a fan of refurbished products when they come with good warranties and reputations. I have a refurbished Vitamix that came with a 5 year warranty and I’ve never had one problem with it! So far, so good with the MacBook!
I need to do this again! It was fun to read yours!
xo
yes you do! it would be so interesting to read your answers now!
