My first idea for this post was to do a “Fun Fact Friday” and then I remembered the “ABCs of Me” that’s been circulating the blog world for the past couple months. I thought this would be an easy way to share some fun facts with y’all!
A. Age: 27
B. Bed size: Queen…and Sullie doesn’t sleep in the bed (just an extra tidbit of info).
C. Chore you dislike: Laundry!!!
D. Dogs: Sullie, Golden Retriever, 4. Sullie is short for Sullivan. She is named after Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina – one of our favorite beaches ever! She is wonderful. At least once a day I comment on how lucky I am to have such a cute and sweet dog. Here is a puppy picture of Sullie.
E. Essential start to your day: Coffee and a yoga practice.
F. Favorite color: to wear, black…in general, blue
G. Gold or silver: Silver (white gold!)
H. Height: 5 foot 4 inches. My mom is 5′ 3″ (maybe 3.5″) and we still battle every time I see her over who’s taller. It’s hilarious.
I. Instruments you play(ed): Unfortunately, none. I dropped out of band in fifth grade because I just couldn’t seem to master the flutophone (recorder). I seriously wish I could play the piano or the violin and I have a serious thing for guys who can play multiple instruments…like Scott Avett.
J. Job title: account manager for an ad agency, group exercise instructor, blogger
K. Kids: None…
L. Live: Charlotte, North Carolina for the past two years and we are here to stay! Other places I’ve lived include: Dublin, Georgia; Athens, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina and Birmingham, Alabama.
M. Mom’s name: Sally – we are very close. She lives 4 hours away in Atlanta though so I don’t get to see her nearly as often as I would like. 🙁
N. Nicknames: Jen, Jen Marie (my dad calls me this!) Whatever you do, don’t call me Jenny!!! Funny story…in the first running group that I joined for half marathon training someone called me Jenny on the first day and I didn’t correct them. I was known as Jenny the entire time I was part of that group and I HATE being called that!
O. Overnight hospital stays: None!
P. Pet peeves: Laziness, dishes in the sink (and a dirty kitchen in general), people who are on their laptops or never look up from their phones during meetings, people having conversations with each other while they take my class (they literally will face each other while they’re lifting and have a full-blown conversation), people who talk during yoga (especially while the whole class is in child’s pose and trying to focus), people who won’t share the sidewalk – you know who I’m talking about! Those who walk side-by-side and will not move over for other runners/walkers and force you into the grass…drives me crazy!
Q. Quote from a movie: I can’t sit still long enough to watch a movie. 😛
R. Righty or lefty: I am LEFT handed! So is my mom…the two boys in the family are right-handed. Another tangent…my grandmother was born left-handed but was forced to learn how to write with her right hand. To this day she still writes with her right hand but eats and does a lot of normal life things with her left hand.
S. Siblings: Brother
T. Time you wake up: 5 a.m. on days I’m teaching or practicing yoga (3-4 days/week) and 7:15 on days that I’m not.
U. Underwear: What does this even mean? I vote we change this to “U. University” and I will answer that as University of Georgia. Goooo Dawgs!!!
V. Vegetables you don’t’ like: The only thing that comes to mind is an herb…I hate dill!!!
W. What makes you run late: I am late to everything except for teaching class. Seriously, it drives me crazy and I wish I could change it. Why are some people always early and others always late!? I have been this way my whole life. I also wait until the last minute to do everything…I’m a procrastinator.
X. X-rays you’ve had: quite a few…arm (broke in 6th grade), lower back (cheerleading injuries), hips (chiropractor), teeth, collar bone (broke in elementary school), knee (running injuries)
Y. Yummy food you make: I love, love, love to cook and bake. Cooking and sitting down for dinner with Brandon is my favorite way to unwind from the day. Check out my recipe blog!
Z. Zoo animal favorites: gorillas, orangutans, otters…I really enjoy zoos although I know there is a lot of controversy about them. I am a huge animal lover.
That was fun!
I would love to hear some interesting tidbits about y’all…it’s always about me and I want to know more about my readers. Leave me a comment and tell me a fun little “getting to know you” story! Answer one (or several…or all) of the letters above!
The devotion you show to physical fitness is such an inspiration! I need to make it a bigger part of my life, and even though I know I need to do this, I lack the drive to do so, which makes your early morning yoga sessions that much more impressive to me.
Thank you Heather! It’s so much easier to maintain the dedication when you feel passionate about what you do and enjoy it. Practicing yoga in the morning makes me feel amazing. It’s so nice to start your day by doing something good for yourself before the craziness of life has a chance to kick in.
Crazy how your grandma was made to write with her right hand. Shows how much times have changed!
Oh my gosh Sullie as a puppy is soooooo cute! There’s nothing more adorable than a golden retriever pup! But I’m biased 🙂
I am in complete agreement! I especially love the extra fluffy ones!
I love otters, too! They are the cutest 🙂
Sullie is such a cutie… and I love the name Sullie!
PS- GOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo DAWGS!!!
Fun! Random fact about me – your reader Mary Beth and I are family. : )
Very cool!!!
Love the last photo of you! So pretty! I had no idea you had a brother! And I’m with ya on the otters – they are too too cute.
Thanks friend!
Oh my goodness, Sullie is just the cutest little puppy girl ever…
I didn’t realise you were the same age as me!
Thanks Rhona! I think she’s pretty cute too! 😉
Did you think I was younger or older?
I thought you were older than me; I think it’s because your life seems more grown up than mine. But then I quite often forget quite how old I am – in my heart I’m still 22!!
Oooh, Sullie was an adorable puppy! And a beautiful dog.
I am totally a procrastinator too! Anything can be done at the last minute. 😉
Sullie is adorable. My husband and I also say on a daily basis how lucky we are to have a such a great dog in our life.
My husband would also love for “K. Kids” to be different for me too (no kids yet but I’m the one holding back!).
I’m with you all the way on the “K” Kristy!!! 😉
So fun to learn more about you!
Fun random fact: I also have a Golden. We rescued him when we was 3, and I say all the time I would have loved to have seen him as a puppy. That picture of Sullie is too cute!
Aw, I love that you rescued a golden. My parents just rescued a 6 yr old male. I can’t wait to meet him. They are just the sweetest dogs.
Love all the random facts!
It is really hard for me to sit still long enough to watch a movie too! (My husband gets annoyed.)
Many of your pet peeves are my pet peeves as well! I cannot stand dirty dishes in the sink.
My husband also gets very annoyed because I never want to go see movies and when we watch them at home I’m always blogging or doing something else the whole time.
I don’t know HOW people let dishes pile up in the sink. It horrifies me!!!
Jen, I never go to the movies because I cannot sit still either! If I do sit still long enough to make it through the movie, I can’t tell you anything about the movie because my mind wasn’t sitting still. I feel so much better when I start my day with yoga proactice! I hate being called, Angela…drives me nuts! Thanks for sharing!
Angie – I have a serious movie problem. The worst is going to see one during the day. If the sun is shining you will NOT find me sitting in a movie theater! I have to really want to see something (and it has to be short!) to sit through a movie. Now, I do like the new movie theaters that serve wine… 😉
See you tonight!
Hi Jen,
I just LOVE both of your blogs! I happened upon your food blog while searching up a stuffed chicken recipe, and I used your sundried tomatos/goat cheese recipe. So good, thanks! I also tried my very first overnight oats thanks to you, I am a huge hot cereal fan and due to my early morning work schedule as a fitness trainer find it hard to make them most of the time. Thanks for sharing everything and best of luck with your teacher training!
Namaste,
Stephanie
Up until I graduated high school, I was known as Jeni, but about 10 years ago I realized how much I hated it and have been known as Jen or Jennifer ever since. You can call me Jen or Jennifer, but I will tear you a new one if you call me Jenny 😉
I whole-heartedly agree with all of your pet peeves, especially the sidewalk one 🙂
SO funny about “Jen” vs. “Jenny” — why? B/c my name is “JENNY” — not JENNIFER. I cannot stand being called Jennifer — you might as well call me Tara or Amanda or some other name as Jennifer not my name. People just make the assumption it is b/c I am a “Jenny”. I was named after a long line of family members — starting with Eugenia, then Eugenie, now Jenny!
I also cannot sit still for movies. My husband & I have filled out March Madness brackets and his request if he wins is that I go to a movie with him! It’s the little things, I tell ya!
We also have a large dog — a German Shepherd, GHIA! — and she does not get to sleep in bed with us.
Hi Jen,
I really enjoyed this post. Thanks for sharing!
You continually inspire me to live a healthful life and to practice yoga more regularly even when the stress from law school pours on, a time when I am most grateful for it.
Keep up all the hard work! Congrats for thriving in teacher training!
Funny about the name thing…I also HATE being called “Kathy”. And people just automatically do it! Seriously, I’ll introduce myself as “Kathryn” or “Kat” and two seconds later they’re calling me Kathy! Do they just not listen?? Or do they assume it’s OK with me to shorten it? Either way, it makes me crazy. And I used to just let it go, too, but I’ve gotten to where I’ll correct them, and sometimes I’m sure I sound as annoyed as I am. 😳 Oh well. Great post, thanks for sharing!
Its so fun to get to know you jenny, hehe, I mean JEN!! Don’t worry, i won’t ever call you that. We are very similar. Except, I like dill!
😉
I have enjoyed reading your blogs and am looking forward to taking your bodypump class next week, a friend has told me all about your class and I can’t wait to check it out for myself.
Awesome Ash! I can’t wait to meet you! I will be teaching BodyPump this Thursday at 6 a.m., Monday at 6 a.m. and next Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
See you soon!
My daughter has officially outgrown me. Probably by about 2.5 inches now. I told her, “If you get taller than mommy, you get an ice cream party.” Her ice cream party was a year ago and she’s still growing!
We visited Athens for a job prospect, and drove around town looking for 25(?) decorated bulldogs that were scattered around town. That must have been about 4 yrs ago. As much as we enjoyed the weekend, it made me realize how much I love where we live and we didn’t move there.
