Recently I have received quite a few questions through email and comments on posts about my daily eats. The questions mainly focus on what I eat throughout the day, when I snack and if I show everything I eat on the blog. I most definitely think this is worth addressing for everyone.
First and foremost, I do NOT blog every single thing that goes in my mouth. Sometimes, I don’t even blog about the things that I eat during the day. The purpose of this blog is not to be a food journal (although I do like to give you an idea of how I eat and what I’m eating) and I would never want to feel like a slave to documenting every single thing. Also, it would get a bit repetitive! My goal is to blog about a good mix of my diet, exercise and life.
Here are two very important things to note.
1. I snack.
2. I eat dessert.
I often don’t blog about my snacks. Normally, I don’t have a morning snack but I do have an afternoon snack around 4 p.m. My snacks are usually 200-300 calories. Here are some of my favorites!
A Larabar and green tea (really any bar but I am partial to Larabars!).
Greek yogurt.
Apple with peanut butter.
Banana with peanut butter. I eat this snack all the time. It’s my “go to” for early morning (pre-workout) or late night snacking.
Nuts and dried fruit. I always have some sort of dried fruit and nuts at my desk. Currently it’s this giant bag of goodness. I can’t keep my hands out of it! (Oh and I finally got rid of the creepy owl clock at my desk! Woohoo!)
So there is an idea of the things that I snack on. Now, the fun part…dessert! It’s not that I don’t want to take pictures of dessert…it’s that I usually eat it while I’m blogging and have already uploaded and edited my photos for the night. Laziness!
I LOVE ice cream! We are never without ice cream in the freezer.
I can be easily convinced to whip up a batch of cookies.
And don’t even think about asking me to pass on dessert when we’re out to dinner! 😉
Hopefully this gives you a better snapshot of what I eat in a day. I’m a super scheduled eater but it’s important to note that if I’m hungry…I eat!!!
Enough of that! Let’s move on to today’s update. I was up early to head to the yoga studio while Brandon was still sleeping. I simply could not take another day without practicing so I just heavily modified my practice so as not to aggravate my hamstring. It was a success!
Breakfast when I arrived home was plain greek yogurt, granola, bananas, blueberries, dried cranberries and a dollop of sunflower seed butter. I stayed home this morning to take care of Brandon. He is in a TON of pain so I helped him get up and to the doctor.
Lunch was another tomato sandwich. I can’t get enough of them during the summer. This one featured light mayo, mashed avocado, tomatoes, spinach and cheddar on whole wheat. A few tortilla chips and cherries on the side.
And here is today’s snack was a Larabar and a kombucha before teaching BodyPump. Class was fabulous, as always. Lots and lots of pushups and my legs are feeling all of the lunges and squats!
Brandon doesn’t have much of an appetite since he feels bad so he had soup for dinner and I made an egg scramble. Loved this combination! Two eggs, leftover grilled eggplant and zucchini, tomatoes, spinach, sundried tomatoes, monterey jack cheese and basil. Cinnamon raisin toast on the side.
And of course I had my nightly bowl of ice cream! 😉
Hope it’s been a great week! Happy Friday friends!
I actually LOVE that you don’t post every little thing – just the highlights:) I think it would be a little weird and obsessive otherwise!
Yumm yum kombucha! You’ve got me hooked! I like the food highlights… posting oatmeal 4 times a week for breakfast can be boring!
I hope none of those comments were negative. I think your blog is very healthy and happy 🙂
I love that you don’t post everything you eat – I enjoy your blog much more for the other things you talk about! I love your recipe posts though.
I do worry that the way some people blog their food could have a very negative effect on people who are struggling to regulate a healthy food intake, or who are battling ED thoughts. Some of the blogs I read photograph beautifully presented tiny portions of food three times a day and compliment it with huge amounts of physical activity. When you look at pictures of the blogger it doesn’t add up – they HAVE to be eating more food to fuel themselves! I just worry that some people will come away thinking that Tiny food+Loads of exercise=Healthy, toned body.
Marathon training has turned me into a hungry, hungry hippo! If I blogged everything I ate I’d post about nothing else!!
kombucha is in high demand these days with the heat here. Probably not a good thing for my $$ but its my go to snack with almonds.
And I am glad you don’t blog your food journal. That can be a little too demanding at times. You hit the highlights of what you eat because you enjoy it, keep it up Jen!
I have the nightly bowl of ice cream habit, too. I couldn’t live without it 🙂
OK I am officially inspired, will be having a tomato sandwich for lunch! I am so sorry that Brandon is so hurt, at least we know he has a wonderful nurse!!
I like that your blog isn’t a food journal! I love seeing the highlights of what others are eating. Gives me ideas on how to change up my day! Now all I need is your grocery list! 🙂
Bananas and peanut butter are the best thing ever! I love snacking on dates with almond butter as well. Yum!
Your blog is one of my favorites and I think it’s the perfect mix of food, exercise and your daily life.
Good for you Jen! I think it’s always important, especially when you are role modeling to remind people to find out what is good for their own body and activity level. Something that is not easily done by reading about someone else’s choices. Height, Weight and Basal Metabolic Rate are very important. I love that your site encourages us to take our own needs and make healthy choices with them! I have now tried: the Green Monster and LaraBars, both delicious and without your love for them i would never have known….
I fully support NOT posting every single morsel of food you consume; it could easily get a wee bit mentally consuming. It really looks like you’re able to strike a balance between healthy, regularly scheduled eating and spontaneous enjoyment eating – may sound simple but its something a lot of people struggle with and I admire you for it 🙂
I agree! Sometimes it gets too cookie-cutter (by the way your cookies looks awesome) if you post every food item you eat in a day every day 🙂 I am going to have to look for that flavor of kombucha! Looks delish 🙂
I agree! Sometimes I don’t feel like snapping pictures of everything I eat. Lately, I haven’t been posting food at all..just thoughts. I blog about whatever I feel like blogging about. I think that is best. After all, it is YOUR blog!
I will always keep reading because I find your blog so interesting!
The store I grocery shop in only has a couple of flavors of Fage. Last weekend I swung by Target and picked up Cherry Pomegranate. It was so amazing I can’t stop thinking about it!
Peanut butter and bananas are the absolute best! Your tomato sandwiches have been making me want one myself lately. I’m not usually a tomato on bread kind of person because it makes the bread soggy. But that looks so delicious. The same with your scramble! Roasted or grilled eggplant is one of my favorites.
