I missed writing a recent eats post last week so I have quite the backlog of photos to share with you. I decided to break it up into two parts and part one is all about meals in bowls. As I was assembling some of these bowl creations, all I could think to myself is that my dad would TOTALLY turn his nose up at them.I really don’t think he would eat a single one of them. He thinks that some of my food combinations are pretty weird. Haha.
Let’s see what YOU think!
BREAKFAST BOWLS
I brought back sweet potato breakfast bowls this week. Mashed sweet potato and banana topped with almond butter, granola and plain greek yogurt. This was my first time adding the greek yogurt and it was good! FYI…I warm the sweet potato/banana mixture and then add the other stuff.
Smoothie bowls. Nothing new to see here but I do recommend topping your smoothie bowls with the Cascadian Farm Cinnamon Crunch Cereal. It’s delicious!
Plain 5% Fage Total, bananas, honey, granola, cherries and almond butter. If there were one bowl my dad MIGHT eat, it would be this one…but he would not be on board with the almond butter on top.
LUNCH BOWLS
This salad combination that was so insanely delicious! I tossed arugula in olive oil, balsamic, honey and sea salt and then topped it with smoked salmon, avocado, marcona almonds, dried cranberries, feta and hemp hearts.
And you’ve already seen this bowl in my 8 month day in the life post but I have to include it again for the bowl round up! 🙂 It’s mashed sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, avocado and fried eggs.
DINNER BOWLS
Now this is where the fun REALLY starts. I should have my dad offer photo-by-photo commentary here and report back to you guys with it.
This is the Trader Joe’s Veggies and Greens chopped salad kit to which I added feta and avocado. I put a Dr. Praeger’s Kale Veggie Burger on top.
Oh this is a good one that’s pretty out there! Sauteed spinach, roasted sweet potatoes, brown rice, feta, a fried egg, a Dr. Praeger’s Kale Veggie Burger, hummus and a drizzle of Tessamae’s Avocado Ranch. My dad would probably rather go to bed hungry than eat this for dinner.
Last one and this one was one of my favorite creations ever! Baby spinach topped with brown rice, smoked salmon, artichoke hearts, feta, avocado and Tessamae’s Avocado Ranch dressing. This was REALLY good and you should totally recreate it.
Okay…I’m going to email the link to this post to my dad as soon as I hit publish. I will report back. 😉
Do you like random bowl creations or do you prefer more of protein and separate sides?
Are there any of these bowls that you are a hard no on!? You won’t hurt my feelings.
Do you like sauces/dressings? I DO! I’d love to hear your favorites so I can try them!
I LOVE meal creations in a bowl! No better way to get all the great flavors in one spot! I would say [most] of my meals come bowl-style too. All of the above look DELISH!!!
This is my favorite ‘dressing’ to put on top of my dinner or lunch bowls is the Chiopotle Aioli in Michelle Smith’s Good Food Cookbook…it’s the bomb!!
Everything looks delicious! Eating a meal in a bowl is my favorite. I like eating Dr. Praeger’s burger with zucchini noodles or brussels sprouts I saute in garlic infused olive oil or coconut oil and add quinoa or lentils. I also like sweet potatoes with an egg and some sort of dressing. I pick a few of the following ingredients to make a dressing/sauce: olive/avocado oil, tahini/almond butter, coconut aminos, fish sauce, tamari, apricot preserves, and turmeric.
I love my oatmeal! I go to town! My favorite combination is pineapple, coconut flakes, banana, cinnamon, almond or walnuts and a glop of peanut butter!
I’m gonna have to disagree with your dad on this one- I would eat (and LOVE) all of these bowls! They all looks scrumptious.
I think we share the same taste buds.. now only these would magically appear at my house as well 😉
Are there any of these bowls that you are a hard no on!? You won’t hurt my feelings.
I have to admit, I agree with your dad! I couldn’t eat most of those bowls. The bowls you make do give me ideas and help me brainstorm my own bowls, though! I can be a picky eater at times.
Do you like sauces/dressings? Sometimes! I usually just toss some olive oil and lime juice into my salads. I don’t mind some of the fresh Trader Joe’s dressings. I especially like the Carrot Ginger Miso dressing.
I could happily eat most of these combos, except maybe the sweet potato/sauerkraut/avocado/fried egg one – I ‘ll bet your dad will really side-eye that one! 🙂 My husband is eagerly awaiting that last salmon one. He even asked where we could buy the Tessamae’s dressing. We’ll be having that one very soon.
I think they all look delicious!!
I like to thin hummus with a little water and use it as a dressing or sauce.
I’m obsessed with Tessamae’s ranch and avocado ranch! Sooo yummy! All of your meals look delicious.
I am ALL about these bowl creations! Actually this post inspired me one night last week to throw together some leftovers in my fridge – I had tumeric mashed sweet potatoes, leftover rotisserie chicken, sauerkraut, and avocado. I wouldn’t have ever thought to put those things together, so thank you! 🙂
I want to pin this entire post! All of these bowls look and sound delicious. I love meals in bowls too; my husband, not so much!
