First, I really appreciate all of the comments/support about my decision to run the Marine Corps Marathon. Tomorrow is the first day of October so the countdown is officially on! Race day is October 31. Eek! ๐ฏ
After Tuesday’s 10-miler I forced myself to take Wednesday as a rest day. I was very tempted to try to squeeze in a yoga practice but luckily I had fun plans to distract me. I met Genevieve and Lelia at 300 East for dinner. Our original plan was patio dining but it rained all day long. I’m so glad that we still decided to meet because it was so cozy inside of the restaurant and I so enjoyed catching up with them.
I ordered the fig and gorgonzola pizza. Comforting on a rainy day and oh so tasty!
After dinner I came home and made hot tea and got to work in the kitchen baking apple pumpkin muffins. I was so pleased with how they turned out! I will be sharing the recipe as soon as I get some nice natural light shots of the muffins.
I planned on an easy run before work this morning but it didn’t happen. I just could not motivate myself to get out there since I knew I could just do it later this evening. Instead, I dawdled around the house making coffee and breakfast and cleaning. Oh well.
Lunch today was an egg scramble.
I sauteed tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, spinach and artichokes and then added two eggs. Strawberries and half of a pumpkin apple muffin (the other half was used as a topping for my banana oats this morning!) on the side.
I taught BodyPump this evening. I drug myself over to the treadmill after class to try to knock out my run. I got on the treadmill, turned on my music and started running. I kid you not, I lasted all of 30 seconds before I hit stop and got back off. I don’t think I can clearly express in words exactly how much I hate the treadmill. I decided that I would rather run in the dark when I got home. So that’s what I did. My third attempt at running for the day finally worked out and I ran an easy, slow three miles with Sullie.
Brandon was in charge of dinner tonight. It was a tough one. ๐
He heated a pot of leftover chili. I devoured a bowl when I got home from my run topped with hot sauce, white cheddar and plain Greek yogurt. I also had a salad on the side.
I just took a pan of peanut butter chocolate chip bars out of the oven. They’re for a neighborhood get together tomorrow evening. I have been a baking machine lately! Off to bed now…early wake up call and very busy day at work tomorrow.
How do you feel about the treadmill? I avoid it at all costs. I’d rather run in rain, darkness, heat or snow than run on the dreadmill. Blah.
What will you say if I tell you that I trained 99.99% of the time on the treadmill for my first half-marathon? ๐ And about 90% for my second one?
I’ve got to say I have various reasons for that though. Travel, inappropriate or dangerous routes, as well as the heat when I need to run in the afternoon, and the only cool place is the gym.
Now that I’m traveling less however, I’m thinking about running more outside. However, since I don’t like running alone (I live in San Francisco and early morning can be creepy at times), I’m thinking of joining a group I recently found… we’ll see how that goes ๐
In any case, I cannot run on the treadmill without a good and frequently updated playlist.
PS: and plz excuse me for my incoherent writing tonight… I just read again what I wrote, and oh… I really need to get some sleep! ๐
Claudie – I will say that you must have amazing mental discipline. And I do not blame you for running on the treadmill if you feel safer there. I am a firm believer that safety always comes first running – no matter what! It is never worth it to feel scared or put yourself in a bad situation if you have to run alone to get a run in.
Does your gym have the new treadmills with the TVs? I do enjoy those! ๐
Unfortunately, no, no TVs on the treadmills! but I’ve found that what helps in those situations is when you have something big to think about… and just losing yourself in your thoughts ๐ Then you forget about being on a treadmill.
My feelings are EXACTLY the same as yours as tm. I once ran my easy 3 miler in 107 degree weather with the heat index!!!
Wow Ashlee – 107 degrees!!! You’re hardcore. LOVE IT!
I avoid the treadmill at all costs! I simply hate it and I don’t want those negative feelings mixed up with running. BTW, made your overnight oats last night and ate them this morning and loved them! Thank you!
I love your point about not wanting to create negative feelings about running. That is so true – especially if you run because you truly love to run and not as just a means to get cardio in.
So glad to hear you enjoyed overnight oats. I love them and have my husband and several friends hooked on them too!
I would love the recipe for the pumpkin apple muffin!!!
Posting it today! Just had another one crumbled on my oatmeal this morning. Yum!
My feelings about the treadmill really depend on if I can distract myself enough. Music alone doesn’t do it for me. I either have to be listening to a podcast or watching something on television. I knocked out 2 miles on the treadmill this morning because I know I’m going to need to get used to running a little on the treadmill; I’m a giant wuss about cold weather!
I will admit that the treadmills with TVs are a nice distraction sometimes. I think I could tolerate it if I planned my run around a favorite TV show! ๐
I’m a wuss about the cold too but I just bundle up in layers (even if I know I’m way overdressed) and shed as I go. Gloves + hats help a ton too!
I hate the treadmill. I actually fell from one and being it my first time, I’ve never ran on it — only walked :-\
*only walked again
Oh no! I am very, very clumsy. I actually can’t believe that I’ve never had a similar mishap!!!
When it comes to treadmills I can take them or leave them. I don’t mind running on them, but I don’t think I could do more than 3 or 4 miles on one before I went crazy.
So glad you got your run in! And even happier that you’re back to running pain free ๐
I made peace with the treadmill last year after hating it for so long. I’m trying to undestand what the heck I did to change my mindset so I can help you. It makes doing speedwork in the heat and cold so much more bearable!
